Guruji on Ties

Question: Guruji should the desire to be free should be strong enough to get Liberation one day?

Guruji: Freedom is a natural desire in every living thing. Even animals, they don’t like to be chained. Even our elephant don’t like to be chained. (Laughter!!) Children, they don’t like to be tied. The tie around the neck is not a good thing. Tie something around a child’s neck and see what it does! It would show restlessness. Do you know the real concept behind ties? How many of you do not know the story of the tie? So many!! (Laughter!!) Ok I’ll say.

In England, during the 14th or the 15th century, when there was a conflict with the French people, the English had to fight with them. Since it was a cold country, they would usually have a running nose most of the time. So they would tie a cloth around their neck like a bib to wipe their nose frequently. I mean, having a gun on one hand and reaching out for a kerchief from the pant pocket was difficult you know so these sort of an arrangement was made. (Laughter!!)

All the slaves and the lower graded people were given a tie those days. If you see the kings and the high-ranking officials never had a tie. Napoleon never wore a tie! The top-level people never wore a tie! They wore a bow sometimes. That was to protect from the cold. It’s only the middle and the lower level that wore a tie! And when they came to Indian continent, there were only slaves here!! So we adapted the tie. Imagine wearing a tie in a hot climate like Chennai and Trivandum is simply slavery!! (Laughter!!)
