DMX Discography

DMX Discography.
Genre: Gangsta Rap/Hip Hop

- It’s Dark and Hell is Hot (1998): Through out the albums his Prayer tracks sound wicked, not really singing, not exactly the rap you’re used to… more like thug poetry/preaching.
- Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood (1998): One of the few rappers that spits them superior lyrics. There was controversy over his CD cover with him covered in pig’s blood.
- … And Then There Was X (1999): My personal favourite album coz it had Here We Go Again, Party Up, What These B1tche5 Want and Good Girls, Bad Guys.
- The Great Depression (2001): This is when I found out DMX directs and produces his videos… or at least for Who We Be. Good tracks are Who We Be, We Right Here and I Miss You.
- Grand Champion (2003): Starting to get much now. Don’t Gotta Go Home final has a bit of love rap even if it is with his mistress telling him not to vex about his wife coz she’s there.
- Year of the Dog…. Again (2006): Usual. Disses Will Smith indirectly… not cool. I heard Lord Give Me A Sign on the weekend after mathe’s passing… perfect timing coz I was hearing shit about gold and bull when all I could think was my lady made it/left me. Goodbye and Blown Away are pretty deep.
- B-Sides/Ruff Ryders/Soundtracks: It is what it is. Grand Final with
Method Man, Ja Rule and Nas is pretty good. Most High Remix with Jerzee Monet is extra deep till DMX starts rapping in the end lol.

The Juice: Gave up school to rob for a living. Was in school with Mary J. Blige. Used to rap and then he was asked to beatbox for this other dude. So dude got his name DMX from the synthesizer he used then. Course, now it stands for Dark Man X. Dude wants to be a preacher when he retires and have a reality TV show called DMX: Soul Of A Man. At least in all his albums he has his prayers and dedicates a song or two to Jesus.

Little Brother

Little Brother.
Genre: Hip Hop
- The Chitlin Circuit. Genre: Rap/Hip Hop. Comment: Pretty good album. Good lyrical skills. Not too gangsta and word is it’s THE album to be playing in your ride. Others say its good old contemporary Hip Hop.
- DJ Drama & Little Brother Separate But Equal (Mixtape) A Gangsta Grillz Extra (2006): Oh my god! The styles, the raps, the flows, samples, instruments, harmony… it all takes you back to the good ol Hip Hop days. Every song has something tasty. In fact not just something… most songs have everything in the right place. Truly impressive.
- The Minstrel Show (2005): DJ Jazzy Jeff makes an appearance. If I heard this album first I’d be wowed and then even more wowed by the mixtape. It’s still pretty good. Just love the old skool feel. Twin daughters called Faith and Abstinence… funny. Slow It Down is THE perfect track… the bass, tambourine, ol skool sample, new skool R&B and philosophical love rap.
- The Listening (2003): Their debut album and what just like the rest of the albums. Pure quality! Big up Viv once again for the recommendation.”
- Getback (2007): They do it again! For rap fans this is a must have. I’m really glad Viv told me to get these guys stuff coz rap had become so damn stagnant with boring stuff. I mean there was hits now and then but not hit albums. These guys are THE CHEFS of lyrical delicacies. They carve those words just right, mix in the music so tight. At the same time it seems so simple but its not. The samples, the touch of R&B. They’re so good I started writing rhymes again. Lol I’m at work with scrap paper full of lines.
The Juice: Reminiscent of the days when Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and others carefully crafted complete experiences from beginning to end. They’re great!!! The attitude is anti-mainstream. Their sound is jazzy/soulful/ol skool and focus is positive. Impressed with the boys. Big up Viv for the recommendation. The 9th Wonder controversy. He says he’s still part of Little Brother. Big Pooh says they’ve decided to part ways to continue giving the world dope music.

Christina Discography Review

Got carried away with this one and I aint planning on doing any editing so … enjoy.

!SOUNDS AND TUNES!
Christina Aguilera Discography.
Genre: Pop/Rock/Dance/R&B/Ballad/Jazz/Soul

- Christina Aguilera (1999): The special edition has sad remixes of the hits. For her debut she did more than great. Even beat Puff Daddy’s album for #1 on charts.

- Mi Reflejo (2000): Her first album in Spanish. Few songs are Spanish versions of songs from her previous album. Funny bit is she didn’t know Spanish that well so she had phonetically. Great ballads, just don’t know what she’s saying.

- My Kind of Christmas (2000): This was recorded the same time she was doing Mi Reflejo. Many thought she was over-singing and later she admitted that her record label forced her to sing a certain types that didn’t show off her voice so she’d over-sing to let certain peeps know what notes she could hit. But gaaaad dayum that’s some extra singing man, toooo much!!!! So much it gets ridiculous/funny. Reminds me of a dude at sat sang… great voice, too much variation.

- Just Be Free (2001… recorded circa. 1995): Unofficial album of early demo recordings submitted when she was 15-16. RCA Records found out and announced to fans not to buy it and had German officials pull it off the shelf. Months later Warlock Records was gonna release the demo tracks. Christina filed breach of contract and unfair competition suits against Warlock to block the release because it didn’t reflect her music direction because of age and how they used her name and likeness in image without permission. So everyone settled, she lent her name, image, etc in exchange of unspecified amount of damages. There’s a statement in the liner notes for the fans about how she didn’t intend for it to be published and that she’s matured since and stepping stone demo released ‘as is’ bla bla bla. She sounds pretty much the same. More Dance and Swing music. Not bad at all, especially for that time.

- Stripped (2002): The Dirrty track has too much controversy especially the Thai underage sex posters and other censorable drama. Don’t want to get into it but because of the raunchiness she didn’t do too well with this album until after she got her kudos back in the next album. I’m OK is an account of her emotionally distressing childhood, her father and painful early life memories. The arrangement aint all that but the lyrics… each line tore me up. Hmmm, in Cruz she sings/sounds so much like Pink. Her new sexual image didn’t have the same impact as Madonna’s, in fact did the opposite for her sales. But timely releases of hits kept her on top of charts album-wise and single-wise. By the way her sexual image had nothing to do with publicity… she told a German paper Netzeitung, “I like having sex. It’s fun… I love experimenting with my sexuality. I want to try out as much as possible. It would be wrong of me to hide this side of my personality. I have fun being sexy and tough at the same time.” I love the lyrics and lyrical content (girl power/I am who I am/Cant put me down stuff) but not enough focus on arrangements/symphony/harmony and overdone vocals here and there. The album has continuity to it so that’s pretty cool. After this album she changed styles to more mature stuff, which critics took well, talking about from ‘Crass to Class’. And her look to Marilyn Monroe, like Gwen Stefani, Ashley Judd and others.

- Back to Basics (2006): Double CD, second one is an enhanced CD (has music videos). Starts with a tribute to soul and blues singers, originators, innovators… talking about going back to basics. Love the songs, lyrics, styles… good music! Oh Mother hits a bit too deep. There’s the F.U.S.S. interlude, which stands for Fu*k/Forget/For U Scott Storch who produced and co-wrote a few choons for Christina, all I can say is… BURN!!! Ends with Thank You (Dedication to Fans…) but then there’s recordings of fans saying thanx for changing their lives too. Clever. In the second CD she experiments with Broadway show tunes in Candyman, jazz in Naughty Nasty Boy, blues/soul in I Got Trouble (like the muffled singing and scratches making it sound like an old record), etc. Aguilera says this album “a throwback to the 20s, 30s, and 40s-style jazz, blues, and feel-good soul music, but with a modern twist.” Hurt is pretty deep too about losing a loved one and dealing with blame and hurting oneself by hurting the loved one. Without You is my fav coz you hear her feeling it. Look, the albums great and refreshing!

- Remixes/B-Sides/Singles: Will The Real Slim Shady Please Shut Up includes reply disses to his original track and boy does she burn him. My other favourite is Nobody Wants to be Lonely with Ricky Martin… excellent stuff. Amazing Grace, Lady Marmalade, Car Wash… etc. Gaad dayum! Even in Every Breath You Take with Sting and a whole lot of other artists she’s doing extra vocals!!!

Juice: My kinda drama lyrics. Great voice, she’s got it but flaunts it like every other song is gospel! Everything else is perfect. :o) Does a lot of charity work or involved a lot. Can hit notes in the whistle register but dunt use it as much as Maria lol. She was in The New Mickey Mouse Club with Britney and Justin back in her childhood. Also had a drama back then coz of her singing… jealousy and all. She also released perfume Xpose available only in a few European countries. Note: I used to think she was just a hottie with a voice but after all this history and familiarity I’ve started to admire her. Big up cousin Shivani for the recommendation.
Apologies: Sorry didn’t realize it got so long.
