ART Excel Malvern 19th – 25th August 2010

Pictures are on Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=262919&id=500304440

Thursday 19/08/2010 – Pack, busses to link with Viv. Get some junk in our tummies. Watch Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Busses to Ameet’s listening to Vive la Fete remixes album. It’s just too good man! Ameet has guests so listen to a dentist convo. Read a pre-published version of a book.

Friday 20/08/2010 – Drive to Letchworth. Such a beautiful area man, Ameet was at work so Khushbu and I check out the area. I check into a library to send you guys the weekly blog. Langar for lunch at the local Gurudwara. Drop by a frame shop where Ameet was sorting out his and Khushbu’s wedding picture and one with Guruji in it. Read. Drive to Malvern. Hellos and all. My boy Soham has moved up from the ART Excel course to Yes! and my boy Alex moved up from Yes! to Yes! Plus. Hunt for my room… the Malvern St. James school is crazy… like the building I was staying in was a proper maze. Some of the rooms you get to through washing areas or another entrance. Glad to see some of last years ART Excel kids. Ryan hooks me up with Ferrero Rocher. Lol him and Timin remembered how much I loved chocolate. Timin’s dad had told me earlier that he’s gonna hook me up. Debrief with other teachers and assistants. Now I had also paid to do the Eternity Process so link with Katie to discuss when she can fit me in. Head ART Excel teach Su said I can’t take time off while the ART Excel course is on so Katie was like it’s better I do it during dinner and satsang as I’ll need time after that to recover. It didn’t happen but will get to it in the next few days. Hunt for food and drink. Unpack. Read.

Saturday 21/08/2010 – Had a dreamy long Kriya. Something about brekkie fruit. And something about hair mess… I think the pics will explain better. (Shit just deleted the notes about todays processes but it was the usual… meet kids, make them fill forms and make their ART Excel books). Oh yeah we played footie and Benjamin tried to score but my foot saved it but the kick was so hard it twisted my ankle right. Now I’m limping around and start hunt for pain killers, ankle support or deep heat at lunch time. Finally find Fatima… ask her to hook me up and she shows me 2 doctors. I tell the doctors my problem and here’s what they tell me… we didn’t bring anything with us so go to boots. !?!?!?! Jai hippocratic oath. I didn’t wanna bother Fatima more as her and Deepak organised the whole thing this time and they had bigger fish to fry. Everyday kids do a day chart for what we did in the morning and afternoon. Kids were hyper man… usually we don’t allow junk or chocolate but the cafeteria had hot chocolate and the kids were bouncing off the walls after lunch. Usually making them play footie or something after lunch does the trick but this time it didn’t work. Now when I saw the registrations for our course I noticed 3 brothers in the course and was like oh boy hope it doesn’t get crazy… man it was more than crazy. One bro Harrison was deaf so he needed a hearing aid and we gotta face him when speaking so he can lip read. Harrison was VERY violent and disruptive. Then there was Benjamin who has autism but what a wicked dude always high fiving everyone. Ben was like a BFG (a term I learnt there which means Big Friendly Giant). And there was Gregory who was normal and cool and stood up for Ben whenever Harrison bugged him. Harrison called Ben a retard and Ben walked off. That was not the first time… Ben, Harisson and Greg would be walking off a lot. Harrison asks me about smoking and what I smoke and stuff like that which I didn’t take too seriously till the next few days. We decide to hike up the Malverns (hills). Ria and Peter hit it off so well talking about geeky things and they were like in their on nerd world which was sooooo romantic lol. I tried to get a vid of it but the audio is not all that.

Ben runs off again and we send Ryan to get him back. One of the rules was stick with the group… as long as you can see each other you’re fine. It was so funny coz brothers Timin and Shaan wanted to go with Ryan too but Su said no and you could see them inching faster and faster till they disappeared too. So 4 kids lost… we were kinda freaked and decided to take a bit of a shortcut to see from higher ground. My ankle was killing but I managed. Oh then there was Aarjav who asked really dumbass questions just for attention and Su flipped and had a lil moment with him. Kids behaved after that. Some dude tells us that 4 kids were shouting for Su and finally we see the lost crew. They join us, have a lil discussion about responsibility etc. Ben apologised but he wanted to show he was best as he loves hiking. We all go to the top. Pics and amazing views and etc. Slip and crew up my ankle even more.

Get to class and change. Timin hooks me up with chocolates. He’s become crafty but it’s nice to see he’s entrepreneurial. Our bed had After Eight chocolates and he decided to collect them for me and says I owe him some so we negotiate. I think he’s been getting pocket money too as every time he’d be like lets go buy this and that or whatever we needed for the games and processes he’d be like we can buy it here and there. Dinner. Debrief. Note: I hardly see the other teachers or assistants sitting with the kids and for me thats when you can do some real work coz it’s smaller groups and more personal. My usual questions are what time they sleep, what they eat and what they watch and take it from there. Since it was a mega meet of courses from adults Part 1 and 2 and yoga and meditation and both the Yes! courses we all gather in the Part 2 course hall for satsang. It was such an awkward satsang. Khushbu and I kept laughing at folks fighting for the microphone just to sing a satsong nobody else was interested in singing along or that was really bad singing. Join with the kids in The Hex, which is where we do the ART Excel course and one of the rooms has a foosball, table-tennis and pool table. This time round I told the folks I’ll take care of the kids till 10 and then send them to their rooms. So did that and the kids ended up in Peter’s room making a racket with their own versions of X Factor and the like. Read. For some reason I thought I fell asleep at 12 but it was just 10.30 or something.

Sunday 22/08/2010 – Priyanka’s mom brings her dog Tonka over so kids play while my group (the Ninjas) do Saturday afternoon chart. Decide a play and sort out auditions. Ben walked out to write a whole list of plays to do which were basically movies and our criteria was 1 – a part for everyone, 2 – fitting the story in 10 minutes, 3 – realistic or something something. Play dog and the bone. Harrison walks off. Ryan tries to get him back but didn’t work and to our amazement Ryan sat down and did the Victory breath (for anger, sadness, fear). I followed Harrison and found him 3 times so those are my 3 strikes coz he walked off again. Debbie found him in a bush and I was like wow dude does not want to be found. Kids learn their Kriya (Happy breath). Now the food was not all that satvic and after a while we noticed it gave us gas big time. The good part was it was sooooo much gas that it was not vibrating bootie noisy gas it was more like blowing cigarette smoke gas. But some of the kids were leaving some very smelly ghosts. An amazing teacher from New Zealand (Parul) visits us. See I was sharing a room with Suresh and we saw Parul’s name on our room too and we’re like thats the first time they’ve mixed accommodation but thats coz someone thought Parul was a guy. She was so natural with the kids and wow the way she handled them and answered dodgy questions etc. Anyway swimming time now and I forgot my trunks so Suresh was like we’ll do it in our boxers but then Ryan hooked me up with his dads spare ones.

Do a trust walk where we blindfold one kid and another kid is entrusted to take them around kinda thing. Quick dinner so we can get back to The Hex and sort out our costumes and props for the play. Oh yeah we decided on The giraffe, pelly (Pelican) and me. Satslang? I’m sure I put slang for a reason but can’t remember but yeah once again another awkward satsang and this time quite a few of us refused to carry on we just closed our eyes and meditated while whoever was interested carried on clapping or singing. Lol we stayed silent till the song changed and then when Josh got on the mic we blew up… and just then the dude that was playing Djembe played a garba beat so I went to give him props and he handed me the chair and djembe. See some singers and DJs need to realise when theres audience participation you have to do familiar easy to follow stuff not what your favourite. Alex comes to me like ‘I’ve finally met someone that high fives more than me’ talking about Benjamin. Birthday celebrations and cake… chocolate again. I can’t believe this man we need some rules and discipline… I mean I love breaking the rules but not if it’s going to interfere with the amazing bliss you’re gonna feel. Debrief. Read.

Monday 23/08/2010 – Wake late. Oh man totally forgot to add the other mornings when my ankle was twisted the swelling was like a golf ball. Then the other bit was Suresh was amazing not only would he wait for me to go for yoga and short Kriya every morning but he was amazing with the kids and strict when needed to be. I was not please with the other two as just like the kids making their own groups these two did the same and they were more into each other than helping with the kids. It seriously felt like they didn’t exist. Sorry but thats the facts! I guess coz they were older ladies or … I don’t know just need to give myself a good excuse for why they were so passive! And today is the day I needed them most. Anyway back to the day. Miss yoga and just do Kriya and usual and I kept going into amazing trances… coz of my ankle I was sitting on a chair and would just about catch myself every time I was about to flop. Now at brekkie another thing I’d do with the kids and steal food of their plate if they were not alert or make them get me stuff or even not take too much on my plate and finish whoever couldn’t finish theirs. This time I think I wanted cocopops and was making Thomas (the cutest kid on the course) do it for me. He got up from the chair and he’s like I’m not gonna be here to do this for you all the time, you have to grow up some time! Man he was too cool… he’s from France too so we’d talk French and he’s pretty gangsta man. His mom told me the girls couldn’t make it this year but they say hi and I was like oh please talk to me some more, her accent was mesmerising. Prep for the play. And I’m even giving the lady assistants eyes to help me but they’re just AHHHHHHHH…. See I was producer of the play and getting these guys to focus for even a minute was good enough but I needed help to maintain the ones that calmed down so we could carry on. The YES! crew invite us to join them but before that we do my groups chart. Yes! crew have their own building and they don’t even join the rest for satsang… they do their own thing man. We learnt something like rocks, paper and scissors from them which was giants, wizards and elves. Play splat with them. Yes! go back while we play the 3 legged race. The cutest couple were Thomas and Priyanka coz they were the smallest and I was teaching them the trick and they’re the only ones that got it asap. Lunch. Rehearse play. Go to old peoples home to do the play, Sun salutations and sing… OH YEAH… sing! Trisha taught the kids an Italian number while I got to teach them Kalinka, a Russian number and the russian leg kicking dance. I was so jazzed about that. Get back to class and do the cut the past and shut the future process. In a way the future is more a sneaky way to tell their parents to behave themselves and sometimes parents will shout at kids and say ‘you always leave a mess’ when they should not turn it into an always thing if you know what I mean. Art Excel game which is more like British bulldog. Ben won… at one point we were trying to get Harrison and I didn’t even realise the way I’d caught him I was actually choking him. Sorry :oS. Rehearse but it’s getting crazy man and Harrison was doing his usual getting violent with folks… and with him and Ryan it was more of an alpha male thing as Ryan knew the stuff and was good at it coz of last year. This time round Ryan wasn’t having it and had to show Harrison who the boss was… I was pulling Harrison off and Su had Ryan but Ryan’s feet were closer to us and he roundhoused Harrison soooooo hard… we thought Harrison’s head would do an Exorcist on us… total silence! The only time I’ve seen a kick like that is with Yoshimitsu on Tekken. After that the other 2 brothers stuck around with Ryan and Ben was even like you’re the coolest Ryan. While Aarjav and his bro Avik stuck with Harrison and kinda entertained Harrison’s behaviour. I wasn’t surprised about Aarjav that way and it was so hard to tell the parents he was a good boy when I wanted to tell them the truth but in the end Su is the head teach and I didn’t want my say to clash with hers. I just feel for Harrison’s mom coz she was on silence and had to break it. Harrison had this attention grabbing down so well he had 6 adults giving him all the attention he wanted for a few hours and when he was fed up he was like ‘you may go now’. Anyway after a while Ryan and Harrison are buds playing sport again. Rehearse. Dinner.

Take props and costumes in the Sri Sri Yoga room and face paint kids. Chill and mess around. Oh and while we were deciding what else to present to the rest of the people there Thomas does these amazing stunts on the diabolo… check out the vid… only way to explain it. I want a kid like that! While Ryan did the caterpillar… he’s pretty good at breakdance. It’s show time so we join the rest for satsang and can’t remember the order … it was something like do a song, Thomas does his diabolo thing, do the play. Now I was backstage trying to keep things in order and all the boys were trippin over Priyanka… thing is she liked the attention. See she plays the Dukes wife and Ryan the duke and they had romantic innuendo going on too. At one point Priyanka was like she has feelings for me and I was like hey I have feelings for me too! Anyway so while these guys were going nuts back stage I had to keep them away from her and at the same time keep the cast ready for their time on stage. Then we do the Italian song and my Russian Kalinka song… I got to make the adults dance too and it gets faster and harder as the dance carries on but the adults were such good sports lol. More chocolate cake.

Debrief in Debbie’s… man she had a room and a half… since it was a girls school we got the girls rooms which were pretty big and had like 3 spare beds and what not but Debbie’s looked like a teacher room with micro, oven, tv, kettle… basically a house in the building! Talk and we were told Carolina donated her money so that some of the kids could do the course for free. Props! And Debbie describes her as a blond Angelina Jolie too! Guruji has agreed for the course fees to be reduced for ART Excel. Just hope UK Board hook it up. Pack and chat with Suresh… he shows me a vid of Guruji’s visit with someone in MTV and Guruji is shooting at someone with something like giant paintballs and then goes for a ride in a Smart car version of a Formula 1. And in the end the driver is stuck with his seatbelt so Guruji’s like here let me release you and frees the guy. Might put it up on here.

Tuesday 24/08/2010 – Man there was this white pigeon or dove thing just chillin with eyes closed so I thought I’d go chill with it and it didn’t even wake up or anything so I started petting it and it didn’t realise till after a while, woke up and just tried to walk away a few steps to avoid my hand so I moved closer and it just wont run away or fly away… ended up hiding inside a bush. That was yesterday… today tried to wake it up and poor thing just stayed still. RIP white pigeon dove thing. Anyway so Soham and Vatsal hook me up with a mocha latte. Simona came over to our class to play the violin for the kids… can’t believe some of the kids remembered from last year that the string thing was made from horse hair. And this other dude did some acting thing… wasn’t paying attention and didn’t even get to take vids or pics coz I was helping with the charts that were still left to do. Parents come over to see what we’ve been teaching the kids and show that youtube of when the kid silenced the world. Parents leave, do the painting meditation and this time we got to do our own drawings or paintings too. Around this time I tell Ria what I do and she was so interested and kept asking me or telling me what she does and how she takes pictures of her sis and edits them etc… I was like wow you sound like you really enjoy it so keep doing it. If you were in London I’d have talked to your folks about giving you Photoshop lessons. Snacks and drinks. Now everyday the school staff would bring like 2 crates of fruit with cereal bars and 4 packs of juice. But no one was having it apart from me… I know it was for the students but they weren’t having it and one of my rules is ‘be shameless when it comes to food’. So my pockets always had cereal bars and well I was drinking enough water but whenever I got bored … there was the juice! ;o) Play heroes and compliments but some of the kids weren’t having it… by the end of it I realised one of the boys that had stayed in the background was really the best one in the class, so big up Peter. I mean Ryan was my inside man this year since Soham moved to Yes! and Thomas my stepson :oP Lunch. Goodbyes. Get props from Ben, Greg and Harrison’s mom, Thomas’ mom, Timin and Shaan’s pops and Priyanka’s mom. It was so weird coz when we start the course we have to sign this crap about not being alone with kids without parents around or something and no holding them so I guess the others were being cautious but I didn’t care man… kids need as much affection, love and nurturing as they can get. Like those few moments when the shy ones get out of their shell… it’s so amazing to see them blossom and you need to be off your guard for that to happen because thats the best time to remind them how much they can shine. I remember Moksha (already an amazing name) was shy and even though she made friends easily she was different. Her accent and pronunciations and in a way buggin with repeating the same stuff or questions but when she let her guard down one lunch time I told her to be aware of how great she’s feeling at that moment and not to let the kids bug her out. Kids can be brutally honest and sometimes it gets much right but use that same freedom they’re using to be you kinda thing. Ok I’ll stop ranting.

Help Katie pack… I’ll be going back to hers for the Eternity Process since we didn’t get to do it there. Beata and Miho will be following us and they get some water from the source. Drop by organic food shop and Katie is hungry as hell. I was just plain tired. Along the way back some weird stuff happened and I’m sure Katie was doing it. See when I sleep sometimes I jerk but just lil ones here and there. Then I did the Sahaj Samadhi meditation with Su and during the meditation I got big jerks and Su explained that impressions were being released. So I got used to that… but in the car this time round I was getting JERKS! Like such gangsta spasms my hands nearly hit the roof of the car. More than twice this happened so I kinda freaked out and stayed awake. I don’t even know why I freaked out coz releasing impressions is a good thing. Aaaaanywho… Get to Katie’s and what a magical place. Again part of me freaked out coz add this up… a lovely charming sweatheart of a lady living in the country side in a very old but well maintain house, amazingly big garden that joins onto a field with sheep etc. You know those magical Narnia kinda stories where you’re so charmed by everything it feels like too good to be true and imagine you’re gonna be locked up any second so that you can be fed to be plumped up just so you can be the meal (for those that don’t get it … Hansel and Gretle). So yeah that flashed my mind for a second but then again I was charmed by the plums and berries and apples and artichokes growing in her garden. Swing bench. Forget all that… I didn’t even know how gorgeous an artichoke flower looks. You know me and trees so the trees def did it for me… and there was this one tree that had spikes but the spikes on the end of each stem changes colour (pics will tell a better story). Su comes over to leave her bike and stuff while she’s in Italy. We have dinner and stories etc. Su leaves and Gordon starts playing guitar. We start having a satsang and Katie gives us pots, pans, spoons etc to play percussion. Have so much fun and laughs. Crazy dreams. Note: I have a feeling some folks have been doing long Kriya more than once a week, the symptoms are there! Lol.

Wednesday 25/08/2010 – Wake up and Katie and Beata gang up on me about the walls I’ve put up and … well the rest is for my private notes ;oP but wow Beata read my energy so well she even said stuff I’ve thought about and discussed only with Twinx, Taz and Nikita. We decide I was not ready for the Eternity Process till after I get regular with my short Kriya and instead Beata works on me with some other stuff and wow she pinched the hell out of the flesh on my lower back… I don’t know what she did but she’s like after I’ve finished stay lying down for a while and get up when you’re ready… I was not ready for a longgg time man… and after that as I type I’m still in a bit of a daze. Then again the stuff she told me kinda blew my mind too. And she kept wishing me happy birthday so I guess it was like a rebirth or something? Hell to celebrate that change I was planning on chopping my hair off but I still have plans for that. Oh and speaking of change, you know how you see signs… check this out… my main man Naruto changes the world in the episode that will be out tomorrow. Was listening to Eminem’s new album and he’s flipped the script on us too which was really nice … hell he’s even got a song called Going Through Changes or something like that. This book I’ve been reading has been an answer to the questions I’ve had and about crazy changes or like the knowledge in there was just so timely it was like…. wow. Anyway so since I’ve been good for these days I’ve decided to carry on with practices and see how much longer I can stop meat this year. I just hate telling folks I’ve stopped coz thats right about the time when I start again kinda thing and … I better finish this blog coz it’s getting late.

So … next …. Katie had been telling me about Biodynamics which is a step higher than organic food and stuff… I’ll try post that next to this post so you can check it out. Took info on other stuff like why Ghee is so good etc. Her area has a few places that do that, her area has a lot of Scientolog-ists too. So get back to hers after shopping at one of these places. I see a deer in the back and try to get a pic of it but I have a face and they recognise that as a threat I guess. Ayurvedic cooking. Katie does my numerology and again another sign. Not only that but the repeating numbers. 17.17, 8.8. Over heard Gordon on the phone talking about Prison SMART and that’s something I wanted to get into and since Viv started work in prisons I was just discussing that with him the week before! Catch the train to London, back in the crowd and city life and noise at home. Still so dazed it didn’t matter. Hell all I did tomorrow was float with a weird headache spending time with my lappy. Note: I’m starting to like the tense of the last sentence as I’m writing about tomorrow which would in this current moment be the past. Gotta explore that ;o) Jai Gurudev.

Stumbling Into Infinity: An Ordinary Man In The Sphere of Enlightenment by Michael Fischman

A story of Michael as he moves from learning TM (Transcendental Meditation) to being a devotee of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and all the ups and downs in-between. First of all big up Ameet for hooking me up with a pre-publication version. From the first few pages I was already getting some answers to questions that had been brewing and stewing for too long. I could identify with Michael on nearly everything… apart from all that crying. I guess in the presence of Guruji you can help yourself so I’m not judging ;o) I not only identified with his love for writing and spirituality but also acceptance issues with folks and especially the ego. In fact he talks about his ego and insensitivity in the book but while reading it you don’t really need to be told… especially a when it came to talking about other cultures. The Caribbean one took the cake… wont mention what he said but sounded like one person judging a whole nation and their lifestyle.

The book takes you on so many journeys and I couldn’t tell if I could identify more because I’m in Art of Living so I’ll skip the obvious AOL bits. I can’t believe how fortunate this guy is as he was there as a pioneer with Guruji spreading the knowledge and techniques. He got to meet some amazing people on the way and have experiences of hanging in there no matter what health or emotional issues come up to falling in love and not getting the girl. It was like an AOL version of Karate Kid. Oh and the miracles… he mentions seeing blue light coming out of Guruji’s hands and nostrils. See these were bits I didn’t get… for his personal issues he’d write paragraphs about but something like seeing the light… I wanted to know more about that. But yeah… lots of healings with the techniques or with Guruji tapping roses on people. One new thing I learnt was that if you have violence in the ashram they have to do some yagya thing called Rudram Abhishekam to clean the area codes from violence. I’d say the book started out great and then when down mostly because I’ve already heard stories like these from other devotees, disciples… and Guruji fanatics that I like to call ‘gurupies’ (mix of groupies and gopis). Big up Michael though for sharing experiences a devotee would die for and Ameet again for hooking me up just when I needed it.

ART Excel Acton Town 12-16 April 2010

ART Excel Acton Town 12-16 April 2010
First day – was good. Usual set up, name games and what not. Funny bit was when we brought up the topic for plays one kid said Holly Oaks. Mostly they’re Somali kids with one action packed white kid and one Indian looking one. Most of them have been divided into like 3-4 kids per assistant and we all got our own difficult ones. I’d spotted mine (Yusuf) even before he was assigned to me but he’s not that bad, I just can’t tell him what to do so I challenge him instead and when it comes to the important stuff like yoga and meditations and breathing he’s good. Then there was the 3 legged race and these two girls had the best coordination man. One two one two one two… till the end… and they were the the smallest ones there. They won the second time too so yeah I’m backing them for races lol. I’m was still drained from crashing at Viv’s then Sag’s and all the partying and stuff. Marco’s not sorted out the net at home so I think facechoons and mails might be out of the question this week. Got so much to sort out and I’m worried by the time I get home the cybercafe’s and post offices are gonna be closed. Anyway go with the flow… just glad to be doing ART Excel… needed a unique distraction and well… here it is.

Day 2 – Started out good. Got my sleep so I was ready. Looked for a post office since I was early but didn’t find one. Ended up buying Krave, new cereal Viv and I’d been wanting to try. See one of the kids there and she says she’s not coming in today… find out coz it was her birthday. Played catch till all the kids were in… Zurha’s getting violent and wild but we’re tight now coz of that. For some reason she understands me… well not for some reason… I can identify so it was easier for me to explain it to her. Anyway today Egli and Lukhman were even more out of order and they got to Joshua. That way my kids are good, Yusuf want’s to be left the hell alone while Zurha wants to do the opposite so instead of saying do this I have to praise Abdulahi and she’s try to compete. Abdulahi loves his meditation man… a bit too much… sometimes does it when he’s not meant to. Today they learnt the happy breath (Kriya) and played extra sport after lunch. Was pretty wild… oh and Carolina joined us. Today’s main bit was having to spend extra time with Zurha for getting physical with Amira and 2 other girls. It’s kinda helping me too but we’ll talk about that in later days to come. Oh and then get home to Bacco and Delton bitching about Kent being gay. Now I’ve heard them bitching to bond before but it aint my style. First of all we not sure about Kent, second what does it matter and third… who wants to talk about who’s gay and how many women they’re pimpin? What are you going to do with that information? In fact I got a small thought on that I’ll publish soon on my replies to sexuality.

Day 3 – Used to call day 3 crack day coz thats when the breathing and yoga breaks the kids down. And coz of these kids backgrounds there so sooo much swearing, kicking and just… oh man… all the teachers lost it at least once. I lost it and kinda swore too which was not cool but it got their attention. Bit up Shobna, Nayla and Sarojben for the lovely food and cake. What else… Zuhra loves her fights and most of the time I’m chasing her around to behave or stick with class… at one point she nearly walked out all packed but it was more to get my attention so later I had to stop giving her so much. Thing is my other kids are too cool… Abdulahi is a gem and Yusuf may have the attitude of a hoochie but he’s good people. Oh yeah Joshua sent the ball flying to my head from one end of the goal to the other so had to pause and get my bearings back. Oh and the kids were even kicking me… Rahma especially… she reminds me of Kanye. The debriefings are starting to take long after the kids have left and I got urgent things to do!!! Anyway before that I needed up bumping into the wildest kid Egli and he was doing what he loves best… football. Today I talked a lot about Naruto with the kids coz they understand that better so I explained mostly to Zurha and later Egli that this breathing is like Naruto’s training where he does not like to do his training but in the end he’s sworn never to give up and now he likes it coz he knows how to use chakra and jutsus etc. They were really curious why we teach for free and end up paying on our side so I was like once I found how much chakra I can get and use it for my powers I feel like I want everyone to feel it too. Lets see tomorrow if Egli gets it. Today was rough and as much as I agree with Joshua about useing a cattle prod tomorrow lol (just joking), but he’s doing him. One of the assistant teachers was getting on my nerves for being so negative and not giving kids a chance, like the last thing they wanna hear is another adult constantly telling them not to do things and pointing out their mistakes. But hey I was doing me so it’s all good. I also feel Mrudula should get more props AND responsibilites. But that kinda seems political or punish and reward or something. Oh yeah my kids were really good with their practices today too coz whoever was good got prizes for breathing, honesty, being helpful etc. The breathings got me feeling things too but like I said that’s for later. So yeah debriefing, sort out urgent postage. And some unwind time.

Day 4 – Got lots done. Lots of games. The blindfold one was too funny coz Aaron was not looking where he was taking his blindfold dude and dude walked into the gate. Then there was Ramla and Yasir… Ramla and I was cracking up coz Yasir took extra time to hold sticks and stuff and feel the texture and all. Good on your Yasir. Oh yeah Sridevi came over to take photographs for us to go on papers… ALL OVER EUROPE… Imagine that! I don’t know man day 4 always has some magic to it, be it basic course or whatever. And lets just say some wishes come true some things fall in place etc etc. Rehearse songs. And the last two headcounts worked out so fast… usually takes more than 3 goes to get it right. Plant trees with the kids as our seva/service project. Auditions for the play. Debrief. Decide to go for pizza but first over to Su’s to sort out certificates, press release and one gangsta meditation. The last time I got so many jerks was when I did my Sahaj Samadhi meditation course with Su. Ended up hitting Jonathan at one point. But yeah even sleep these days is that lovely sleep be it on the tubes or bed. Time for pizza, lots of lovely food at Franka Manka or something like that. Taz and Nick drop by. Taz stays over for some food. Chit chat etc. Told ya day for is like magic.

Day 5 – Finished this silly book Viv asked me to figure out. Everyday I’d chill in the cafe coz I was early as usual and so it was hot beverage and reading till it was time. Get a surprise for my group… mostly some chocolate croissants that I didn’t like lol. Oh and after last nights meditation I’d been so spaced since. Even forgot to do my homework and sort out a script. Painting meditation. Now my Zurha likes being difficult so she thought she’d be clever and paint the whole sheet black coz her eyes were closed during the meditation and thats what she saw right… wrong… according to the adults they read all kindsa darkness into it. Su had given me the camera for the week and I was like dang man I wanna be in some pics! Anyway Shridevi will hook that up. Was not happy about the dude with beard = God stuff. Man trying to get the kids to listen for a second to rehearse for the play was nuts but somehow it always works out. Friends and fam come over to see the drumming, singing and play. Shut up shop and bye byes. Get to McD’s just to mail you guys the Friday publication. What can I say gotta have some disciplines. Oh but McD server was down so I’m at JD Wetherspoons. So packed and everyones getting their drink on ready to party and this Gayanian couple were good enough to share their table. I’m looking ruff and on a posh as Mac on a busy Friday eve… picture that it you will.

The crew – Head teach Su amazing as always. Big up Jagruti for hooking it up and letting me know I don’t need the CRB to come. Big up Shobna, Nayla and Saroj ben for the grub… love the way they talk, just wanna pinch their cheeks. Mrudula was an ART Excel teach but she’d never taught the 5 day one and I guess it was new to her in a way. Everytime I saw her name tag I’d crack up silently coz it looked like MR. UDULA. We had Jonathan who usually takes the YES course. Peter was amazing, soft spoken, great a footie and just well mannered and all. We had Joshua the loud one that kept things in check and gorgeous Carolina, not my type coz she’s tall and skinny but I just wanted to take the Photoshop colour picker and sample her face for swatches. Lovely pastel colours from skin, hair, lips, eyes and clothing. Picture a blond Angelina.

So yeah… this was exactly what I needed, was feeling extra depressed with no work and love life on pause after being fed up of these 2 month stand situations. And other things. Guruji usually says best cure for depression is seva/service and boy has it helped. The physical affection from kids even if it was kicks and pinches, the feeling of doing something that helps, being busy constantly, etc. And some how some way… wishes just come true. I’d kinda forgotten about my past and when I saw the kids I was like I feel you man so I got to appreciate how far I’ve come since then. Hell I even feel like adding a song for old times sake.

Heart don’t fail me now, Courage don’t desert me,
Don’t turn back now that we’re here,
People always say life is full of choices,
No one ever mentions fear,
Or how the road can seem so long, How the world can seem so vast.

Somewhere down this road, I know someone’s waiting,
Years of dreams just can’t be wrong,
Arms will open wide, I’ll be safe and wanted,
Finally home where I belong,
Well starting here my life begins.
Starting now I’m learning fast.

Home, love, family. There was once a time I must have had them too,
Home, love, family. I will never be complete until I find you.

One step at a time, One hope then another,
Who knows where this road may go?
Back to who I was, On to find my future,
Things my heart still needs to know,
Yes let this be a sign, Let this road be mine,
Courage see me through, Heart I am trusting you,
To bring me home.
At last! At last!

A CONVERSATION WITH THE MASTER (May 2002, Santa Monica, California)

A CONVERSATION WITH THE MASTER (May 2002, Santa Monica, California)
Spiritual path demands two things. First, authenticity. Are you authentic? Whatever you are doing, are you authentic? The second thing it demands is intensity. How intense are you, in anything you’re doing. If you are just lukewarm, there is no progress in spiritual path. Do you have the intensity of anything, desire? Do you desire something with such intense, with such intensity? Do you have longing with such intensity or are you happy with such intensity? Just like a child you know its so happy, so intensely happy. Its not just and smiling. The smile and joy pours out from its whole body. Havent you noticed that? Have you seen, small baby, 6 month old baby, she how it laughs, when it laughs is joy contained in a little lukewarm fashion? (laughter) The joy of a child bursts! Similarly the life force in you should burst out from you. Every cell of your body should/be vibrant, should exhibit the life energy. Your whole system radiates. That is spiritual, then you say oh you are doing something. You’re living your potential. Intensity in your expression, intensity in your experience, intensity even in your misery will take you on spiritual path. (laughter) Not lukewarm misery, you’re so desperate and you cry your heart out, you know without shame. You are on the path. You are a seeker. So options. Intensely miserable, intense longing or intense desire or intense expression of joy. There is no fifth condition. And authentically, not just dramatizing it. You know you can make drama. (Guruji laughs) Make a mood. But that doesn’t come from deep within. If that is the case then all the actors and actresses would be living that full potential. But it is not so. Are you getting what I’m saying?

Intense expression of life. The second sign of a seeker. That doesn’t mean you intensely get angry and and go. There are so many people who intensely get angry and justify that. We should not use knowledge as a shield. Use knowledge as an umbrella, not as a shield. Because you are at loss, if you use knowledge as a shield, to cover up your, whatever, shortcomings, then you’re at loss. And again, when you recognise shortcomings don’t hold on to them, this is another problem. Oh I’m no good, I’m no good. Self blame. If you are blaming yourself, remember, there is no chance for you to make any progress. Coz if you’re blaming yourself, how can you go towards something which you are blaming? You try to stay away from that something which you blame. And if you blame yourself, will you ever be able to go deep within yourself? Huh? Self blame prevents you from settling down. And if you cannot settle down, you are definitely going to blame others around you. See we oscillate between self blame and blaming others. This is the biggest pitfall on the path of evolution and the path to god. So whenever you blame, you’re not blaming yourself, you’re blaming god.

So that golden rule we need to find, that gold line we need to find. That centre point where you recognise the shortcomings but not start blaming yourself. The mere recognition take you further. Not denying, and not blaming, but recognising. Are you all with me? Is your mind still here? I want 100% of you here. Don’t want only 30% of you here and then another 50% out somewhere in Santa Monica. (laughter) Huh? 100% Intense! Do anything intense, listening, seeing, tasting, smelling, crying, singing… I tell you it’s the shortest way.

Patanjali, the propounder (?) of yoga, he said that… teevra samveganam asana. The one who has the intensity, for them, the yoga, the union or the oneness of the mind, becomes so easy. Are you all here? YES!!??? (Guruji laughs/everybody laughs) Often when people are upset, they are intense. And people who are peaceful, who are in love and joy, they don’t seem to exibit the intensity. Isnt it? I would call it the tamsik peace. Means very dull. Sort of inertia. (laughs) Inertia can also be interpreted as peaceful. But the dynamism is often associated with? Anger, rage, frustration. Where we find those who are intense even in peace? Are you getting what I’m saying. An intense peace. (laughter) Is a goal you can aim at. And that’s what this society, the world needs today. Isnt it? Hmmm? (Guruji taps on the mic) Let me see how many of you are really smiling and how many of you are really not.

You know we have made our smile so expensive. We smile once in a while. Some time, now or then. And our anger, frustration we distribute it freely, free of cost. Cant we make our smile cheaper? Wisdom is when you make your smile cheap… in fact distribute your smile free of cost and make your anger very expensive. You know when we were in schools, if we are upset someday or one day, you know, we were made to feel ashamed about it. If someone loses themselves, loses their… what you call… lose the temper, everybody would look and them, say what is wrong with them? If a boy or girl in the class shouts or does something, everybody wonder, what has happened to this person. So many days people will remember, oh that person lost the temper, coz losing temper was not considered to be a very good thing to. Coz the ideal was the Samadhi. Equanimity, how equanimity and how unperturbed a person was. That was given, that child or that student was really thought to be very high, very, its good. I mean pride was attached to unperturbedness. But today pride somehow got attached to rage, frustration, aggressiveness. Aggression got itself hooked to prestige. Violence got hooked to… coz the ideal of Mahatma Gandhi, he had just, maybe 10 years he must have gone. So everybody admired Mahatma Gandhi. So anyone who is peaceful and… always ranked high. Was given, you know, respect. But just within few years, everything is changed. Isnt it? And Gandhi used to read the second chapter of Bhagvad Gita everyday. And second chapter this is what its said… how to be equanimous in your attitude. Impartail and equanimity was given so much importance, pride.

Its not suppression, again. To whichever values you attach the pride to, that is what blossoms in life. Isnt it? You attach pride to violence, then violence will blossom, come forth in life. Violence will be exhibiting in every action. Why not to smile more? You know, just look at the person next to you and see if they’re really smiling, if they’re not just pinch them and make them smile. (laughter) Tell them you either cry or smile. Nothing inbetween. (laughter) This is a step to become like a child again, a child either cries or smiles. Express yourself. And life finds an authentic expression, it progresses in the path of spirit, for spirit is truth, spirit is love, spirit is joy, spirit is all that! That we aspire. Isnt that? Isnt that so? Hmmmm?

You know what stops you, what bottles you is your problems. And you know everybody else have the same problems. Slightly different problem. People say I want to talk to you Guruji alone, I said theres no need. (laughter) In the ashram I kept 5 baskets, I know what the problems are. Either the problem is about relationship, one basket. (laughter) Job or finance, another basket. (laughter) Health and health related problem, third basket. (laughter) And miscellaneous, forth one. (laughter) Fifth, big worries about the society, about whatever, the country, about the nation, about world, environment, all these problems, you know. Put in that. Or any complains about me. (laughter) Put it in there. Guruji you never meet with me, you never spend time, too many people, I don’t get time, I don’t get to do this, etc, etc, whatever. You don’t give me personal attention. Huh… put all that in there. (mad laughter) 5 Baskets, all the problems. There is nothing. And I have my own ways to reply to them all. Life is too short to keep solving one problem after another, I tell you. Just wake up and walk ahead, problems will get solved by themselves. You’re not alone my dear, wake up! You’re not alone, all the problems are getting solved and there is some power with you. Whos walking you through all the problems. And when you feel that intense desire to offer, write it down, put it, give it, send it, do anything. (laughter) Huh?

I’ve said, teacher is a garbage collector. (laughs) He wont say, oh this is yesterdays garbage, this is third days garbage, no why did you give me. No, no question. Any amount of garbage you can give. You the person who comes to collect garbage in front of your homes, they don’t say, they don’t quantify you. You can only give only 2kgs of garbage. I wont take anymore. (laughter) You’ll be in trouble. Unlimited quantity of garbage, dump it. And you have hesitation even to do that. This is irony. This is the irony. That we have hesitation to drop a garbage. Are you all there. (YES) (Guruji waves to everyone)

See I have no shame I tell you. (laughter) Nor am I shy. I just say whatever comes here. If you take it, take it, if you don’t want to take it, just drop it along with the garbage. (Guruji laughs/everyone laughs/applause) Give it back to me, no problem. But don’t sit just like, lifeless statue. (laughs) Ya? (Yes, WHOOOOW) (laughter) You know that’s why its called satsang. Satsang means you know what? Where you can just drop all, what people would think about me sort of things and authentically be there. 100% Authentic company, the company of the truth. Ya? Ok, now I’ll see the questions. Do we need to go through the questions? (laughter) Answered them all huh? (Guruji laughs)

People normally ask questions and Guruji aptly answers.

Thank you for the grace you have brought to my life. (Paras note: Not a question)

How does one attain optimum physical health?
Don’t worry about health a lot. (Applause)

Could you speak on noncausal joy?
Non-causal joy, you know the cause and effect, is again an illusion on one level. You know some of you have this problem, ok I read all these books, I know all this knowledge, but in practical life it is not applicable so what is the use. How many of you have had this sort of question, raise their hands. My dear you should know there are two types of science. One is the pure science, the other is the applied science. You learn about thermodynamics, aerodynamics, but all that you learn in physics, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, all that is not applicable in everyday life. Is it? But the knowledge of it helps you in some point of time. You can just learn being a mechanic, how to repair a car, can take a diploma course. Not even a diploma, 3 months, go and sit with a mechanic, he will tell you how to fix a car. But that is not enough to be an engineer. An engineer will have to know the whole mechanics, the dynamics of how the car functions. Right? So all that, as a theory, you read, you study, may not come to your day to day use. But never discard them, sometime in life they will come to your use, your help. It should just be there. Are you getting what I’m saying? At some point in life in time, that will come to the help. If you see only practical application of knowledge, then nobody will study physics and chemistry, the pure science. But without pure science there is no depth. There is no deeper understanding of the mechanics. There is no further innovations. How can you do further innovation when you don’t have knowledge in depth about it. So similarly all this studying, this knowledge hearing. Though you may feel its not applicable to life now. Some point of time, when there is a dire need, this will come up. And they do help your life. So there are two kinds, one help that comes direct and another help which is indirect help. There is one kind of joy which is direct, which is eminent, the other kind of joy which is indirect, which we do not obviously see the connection. Hmmm? Like brushing your teeth everyday, doesn’t give you any great joy directly, but it prevents you from toothache. It helps you from not having toothache, so in that manner it is aiding your happiness, joy, indirect manner. Same with disciplines, sometimes the disciplines that you practice, exercise or yoga, meditation, may not give you an immediate pleasure or joy or happiness. But in the indirect fashion, they do aid your growth. Are you getting what I’m saying?

What is the significance of the number 108?
Significance is what we attach to it. One of the significance that people have attached to 108 is, there are 9 planets… they counted 9, though there may be 10, 11. So 9 planets and 12 constellations. So when 9 planets move through 12 constellation, they make 108 changes. Of these 108 changes, they may be pleasant, unpleasant, whatever. To nullify the unpleasant, and to increase the pleasant effect of these changes, they would chant the mantras or the sound so many times. This was an ancient way to do that.

Why do all the god, saints, wizards, prophets keep long hair, beard and robes? (laughter/applause)
Its just their uniform so you can recognise them. (laughter) People can recognise only through dresses. Coz they don’t have eyes to see their spirit behind, so perhaps this is a uniform. There was one Indian freedom fighter, he was a great scholar, he had written many books and all. Chatterji or someone, huh? Vakilchandraji. He was invited for dinner. In the British tent, he was invited for a dinner, for a scholarly thing. And he was supposed to wear coat and you know, proper dress with a tie, coat and all that. But he just walked with a robe like this dhoti and a simple shirt, he was not allowed in. So he went back home and he put on the suit and came, and at the dining table he was sitting, when the dinner was served, he was feeding it in the pockets. (laughs) People asked him why is he. I was not allowed to the dinner, its only this coat that could let me inside this place, so I am feeding the coat. (laughter) Used to say, comeon eat. You eat. (laughter) So don’t have to be hung up on the dresses. Long hair and beard, its just I don’t have time to do all that shaving and… ok. (laughter) These are not an essential requirement for spiritual growth. Just wake up and see, you are connected to god. However you are. Its like you know a mother looks at some children are happy and cheerful, some are all the time waning and wailing and what do you call… crying and complaining. So you choose what type of child you want to be. (Guruji laughs/everybody laughs) Of course the former one otherwise you wouldn’t be here.

Are we all god really? Is this absolutely 100% reality? Please expound on.
(Laughter) Certain questions, its easy to say no and get away with it. (Guruji laughs) But that is not true. (Guruji laughs even more) Forget about god, first you have to tell me what is your concept of god. But if you just say god is love, I tell you, you are love. Even if you are angry, upset, frustrated, whatever state you are, you are still love. Love distorted, fermented. (laughter) Spoiled a little bit here and there. All the negative emotions are nothing but distortions of love. Love when it gets fermented becomes jealousy, anger, hatred, all these things. Frozen love becomes hatred. Just a little heat to it, it will melt. Hmmm?

THE COSMIC CONNECTION – PLANET, STARS AND LIFE by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (August 6th 1996 – Santa Monica, California)

THE COSMIC CONNECTION – PLANET, STARS AND LIFE by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (August 6th 1996 – Santa Monica, California)
Guruji chants a lil some something… means this knowledge is deep so find some quiet time, your space and let your self absorb it.

Cosmic connection is an illusion. (laughter) Connection can happen between to, when there is only one, what you connect? (laughter) The entire universe is one, is one organism. This is the ultimate truth. But yet, on another level, there is diversity, there is difference. And there is a connection in the sense, a definite result or effect is produced. With certain definite interactions. This is a second level of reality. Though not the ultimate. The relative reality, the second level of reality is not the ultimate, is not final but there is always possibilities open. Creation is made up of varieties. Life is also made up of definite varieties, of elements, of substances or energies. You cannot understand the cosmos if you leave out life. And if you understand life then you understand cosmos better. Life is part of the cosmos but plays a very vital role. In this universe every substance affects everything else. Affects and affected by everything else. To what degree, to what extent? Varies. That has to be seen. Everything affects everything else, this is determined, but to what degree to what extent. Is variable. Do you see what I’m saying? The entire cosmos is one unit. Now in this there are two aspects. One is the planets or space or the energies. The second is time. The ancient rishis have said the whole universe is a combination of time and space. From the microcosm to the macrocosm there is a link there is a connection. A connectedness. So also with the time. And it is so fascinating that this unit of time is also determined and measured.

Said 4.32 million years make one kalpa. One unit. And several such kalpas make one mannmantra. In this one unit of kalpa, mannmantras come. This mannmantra, several yugas are there. Called the golden age, which is calculated 1.8. something million years. And the silver age, which is 1.3 and some million years. And then the copper age which is 0.8 million years and the iron age or the dark age is only 0.430 million years. Um point…? Ya! 400 and something thousand years. Now together this cycle of 4. some million years. 4.320 million years make one mannmantra. Several such mannmantras make one kalpa, and several such kalpas make one eighth of the day of Braman. And thousand years of Braman is one eighth of the day of Vishnu. And one thousand Vishnu years is one eighth day of a Shiva. Shiva time. (laughter) Now see the magnitude of times. Billions of light-years, it flows in to light-years. This calculation of macrocosmic time has been done thousands of years ago. And this comes down to the exact calculation of today’s astronomy. Like 365 days 15 ghatis and 36 vighatis make one year. 15 ghatis and 38 vighatis are just quarter day. That’s just 365 and one quarter day. That’s the time of the year. Now to that precision of time, ghatis, vighatis, seconds, have been calculated in the vedic astrology.

This knowledge of astrology has got 3 aspects. One is the astronomical calculation, the second is the influence they have on each other. Planets are not merely planets somewhere sitting there, planets are the vibrations that cut across the cosmos. The cosmic ray, huh, say the cosmic rays. And its interesting, each of these cosmic ray has a definite particular effect on certain substances. Certain stones, like gem stones, certain stones for particular planets. And particular types of food also like grains. (Paras note: If you’re interested in that check out Steve Wonders – Seeds a Star and google Po Tolo… you’ll be amazed!) Colours, even birds and animals, they carry most of these particular type of vibration in them. Do you see what I’m saying? Like moon, moons vibration is carried in the moonstone. Hmmm? Also on the colour, cream or white. And a particular type of bird called Chakota, don’t know what you say that bird here. This particular species of bird is very much linked with the vibration of the moon. The water. Water element.

5 Elements of which our creation is made up of is also connected to the 9 planets. Are you all connected to what I’m saying now? (laughter) Hmmm? The 5 elements are earth, water, air, fire and ether. (Paras note: For Captain Planet its earth, fire, wind, water and heart… by your powers combined… I am Captain Planet… GO PLANET!) On one level there is no different, it is all one thing, one energy but when you come to another level of reality there is multiplicity, there is division, there is differences. And all connections are from this level of existence, and life is not linear it is multidimensional. Time is not liner, time is a circle, space is not linear, spaces is connected, is circle.

So the astrology says one is the impact effect and the second most interesting thing is called upaya. Means the remedial measures. See when everything can influence everything else, you’re also part of the something. So you can also in turn influence everything else in the universe. (laughter) You wonder how come me, this small being here, which is insignificant in this creation can influence something so big. Its hard to believe but I tell you, you can. Just see how a tiny atom when it explodes, destroys cities for years to come. Most invisible tiny part of an atom when they are exploded, separated. An atomic explosion can cause such a big havoc. Such a big impact, for years together. The radiation goes for years together. Thousands of years. You think you are less powerful than an atom which is matter? I tell you, you are much more powerful. Your consciousness is so much more powerful. Is so much more subtler than an atom. Just like an atomic explosion when something in you opens up you become really a nobody. Or you become everybody part of everybody. The full blossoming in you happens, you affect your entire environment. The place, you know. The circumstance, situations. And its effect, the karma.

Karma is nothing but impressions of action or ideas on the level of consciousness. And it is the consciousness which is the driving force behind all actions. Isn’t it? Now you want to raise your hand, first the idea comes in the mind, raise your hand. Or an intention arises, raise your hand. An intention is so powerful that it carries your whole body or system wherever you want it. Isn’t it? You sit and think I would like to go to New York and that one tiny thought that I want to go to New York propels your body to do so much action. 100-200 pounds of the body, it gets into the car, drives the car, goes to the airport, takes the ticket and sits in the plane. Look at the action, the amount of action that happens by a single thought, I want to go to New York. Isn’t it? Is this mind, consciousness not powerful? So much more powerful, I tell you, you’re much more powerful than all the stones, crystals and all things that we try to use to make ourselves more powerful. (laughter) You’re giving away the power to all those tiny little stones. (laughs) I mean you can decorate yourself with that, they do have some effect but I tell you, you have much more source, you have much more potentiality, potential within you. You’re much more potent than those stones.

That’s why its called mantras. The vibrations in the mind can affect the planet which are so far away or their influences on our system. You know the mythology says, Lord Shiva sits on top of all the planets. Shiva means the inner most core of the creation, the essence of creation, the transcendental aspect of life. The divine aspect of this creation. The divinity sits on top of all the planets, means what, it rules over all the planets. There’s another beautiful thing huh… your system is made up of body, breath, mind, intellect, memory and ego… and then self. All the influences or effect of the planets and stars are only up to the ego. So when you transcend ego, no planet can affect you.

There is a story of a young boy. Is called Markhandaya. His parents wished for a son. And they got this divine intuition, vision in which they were asked ok you have a choice. What type of son you want? You want a son who is so good and great and wise but short lived or you want a son who has a long life, 100 years but very wicked. (laughter) The parents were wise, said they chose, we want a son who is, never mind if he’s short lived, who is wise. So they got the son. They named him Markhandaya and the astrological chart said he lives only for 16 years. He became wise from the very first years. I mean from fourth year he was bring out so much wisdom in his speech and action. So the parents on the 16th year, they didn’t know what to do because he was going to die on the 16th year. But its said that he transcended the ego and meditated. And then the god of death who came to take him could not touch him coz he transcended time. So he was granted, the mythology says thousands of years of life so he lived for more. There is a point there, that the effect is only up to the limited idea of who I am. Once I tap into that source, which is the basis of the whole creation, then instead of you getting affected, you start effecting the situation and circumstances around you.

You know usually in the beads there is 108 beads, you know what is that, why 108? Why? There are 9 planets and 12 constellation when 9 planets go around 12 constellations they produce 108 major changes. And to counteract 108 major changes which can possibly affect us in a negative manner, they say ok chant Om Namah Shivay or some chant you know. Take the name of god. So every time you are in a divine energy you make an impact on the environment, on your karma. So the number 108 is thought to be very significant. There is one more bead on top of it 109th, it’s the guru bead, which is beyond the effect of it. (guruji laughs)

There is one very practical use of astrology. You know what that is? It shifts your idea that somebody is responsible for what is happening to you, onto planets. (laughter) Often when we are miserable, we think someone else is the cause for our misery. So you are stuck thinking so and so behaved or did this thing to me and how you can take revenge or challenge on them. This sets up emotion of action and reaction and continues chain of karmas. Isn’t it? Now when the astrologer tells you, see its because of your bad period that Saturn its retrograde. That’s why you got blamed for this thing which you haven’t done. Then you stop getting on XYZ. (laughter) You cant get angry on Saturn for being in retrograde. (laughter) What do you do? (laughter) If moon gets into triangle what do you do? (laughs) You cant shout at them. (laughs) Weather you believe it or not the practical benefit of astrology that you can see immediately is shifting your limited awareness of cause and effect. Whatever you think is the cause, if you see from a wider angle lens, that is also in effect. The whole creation is a series of effects. There’s no cause. (laughter) This understanding gives so much strength to you to transcend the chain of action and reaction. Do you see what I’m saying? In fact I shouldn’t even use the word action its all a chain of reactions. So first thing is to shift the responsibility that you put on someone else for what is happening to you, to a broader perspective. Your mind becomes mature, vision gets broadened, life becomes more stable. There are the benefits of, primary benefits of astrology.

Now there are some drawbacks also, what are the drawbacks? It can make you lazy and lethargic. Be irresponsible. If not properly understood. Coz people sit and wait, oh my period is no good for two years, let me wait. (laughs) Do you see what I’m saying? And there are some scientists who are pseudo-scientists or not full scientists who deny there is any connection between stars and what is happening here. I tell you their vision is very small. They have to go back to their physics classes and understand how everything in the universe is connected, linked. The purpose of astrology is to take you to the ultimate truth that entire universe is one organism. One being, one consciousness, one self, manifests itself into this varied universe. Called Advaita, non-dual. Existence. And that is bliss, that is joy, that is the ultimate aim of life. And its all present right here, in us is a capsule form.

You know the tree under which Buddha got enlightened, hundreds and thousands of people throughout the ages have been going there visiting it. And it feels such a peace, such a serenity, calmness, quietness and joy there. Why? Buddha got enlightened. That means what? An atom which was somebody got exploded. And that vibration was absorbed by the tree. The bodhi tree under which he sat and got, sat and meditated. And the influence or effect or impact of it continues through thousands of years. It is just like an atomic explosion, don’t you think so? (Guruji and everybody laughs)

Someone shouts out a question. Guruji asks ‘when?…. hmmm right here’. People crack up and make noise and go nuts and applause.

People go to pilgrimages, you know pilgrim places or holy places, cities. Why? Because those were the places where people sat and meditated. And wherever you sit and meditate, you’re not only influencing your body, your system but you’re also sending those most positive vibrations energy all around you. You can see that, in your own home you try, sit in one corner and meditate in the same place everyday. And you will see that when you get in there, the vibration, the feeling is so much different. Because not only you, you have influenced the walls, the carpet, the place where you are. (guruji laughs) In India it’s a very common custom, that if there is a saint in the town they all want him to come and to just keep at least one foot inside the house. Come in for at least two minutes to our house you know. Let the, our house vibration will be different and change, its good.

This upayasa, simply beautiful, just have to explore more into it from a scientific angle. Like you know that any chronicling illnesses becomes more or less during the full moon or new moon. Isn’t it? This is an established fact, everybody knows. Now the ancient rishis said, ok in that case, what do you do three days before that, on the eleventh day of full moon or new moon you fast on water. Coz it takes 3 days for us to, the toxins in our system to reach all the part, all the organs of the system. And 3 days before if you undergo a cleansing by fasting. And the next day, morning, certain particular herbs and leaves and spinach and all this cleansing diet is given, then the impact of that particular, whatever planetary position, for the illness will be minimised.

There’s another proverb also. Says, the bullet came to the head, but it took off the hat. Events happen, but its effect could be reduced. The spirit has this power to reduce the malefic influence and enhance the benific influence. Suppose you are supposed to get a lottery and if your good karma is very low then you’ll simply hear somebody, oh I’m going to give you hundred thousand dollars and you’re happy that you’re going to get hundred thousand dollars and that’s it. One day you are happy and then it wont manifest. Do you see what I’m saying? Of course you got the news, and that’s it, finished. If you have a bad karma of having an accident, you may just trip from your staircase. And just hurt your nail that’s all. That law of world is fulfilled. Do you see what I’m saying? That is why spiritual practice form such an important aspect of upaya. Remedial measures for life. And its no good to do it when the time comes, it has to be done much before. Oh my bad time is only up to 3 years, let me wait for 3 years then let me do something at that time. Will not work. Its like trying to learn archery in the war field. (laughter)

S’why everyday few minutes, in the morning or in the evenings, sunrise and sunset. Those are the most important time or precious time where your mind can also transcend from the waking, dreaming and sleeping, to the self. Which our fourth state of consciousness. That is the shield, this is like a shield for you. So everyday keep 10 minutes for you, 15 minutes for you, 20 minutes for you, morning and evening. Then you will feel connected with the whole cosmos. What d’you say? (Applause) Jai Gurudev.

TURN A MOUSE INTO A LION by Ravi Shankar (Hudson Valley, May 2004)

TURN A MOUSE INTO A LION by Ravi Shankar (Hudson Valley, May 2004)
Its hard to imagine my ever being very courageous. In fact most of the time I feel like a mouse. Can the qualities of love and meditation turn even a mouse into a Buddha?
Certainly. This knowledge will turn mud into gold, mouse into a lion. You know a child saw a cartoon or some picture that someone with a beard and hair came and turned somebody into a frog. So when that family came here yesterday, the child saw me and started crying thinking that. (mad laughter) And the boy said to the dad ‘dad he’s going to turn me into a frog I don’t want to go near’. (more laughter) A Buddha is present even inside a mouse. The nature of Buddha is everywhere. So definitely it can blossom.

My dearest guruji, can you please talk about self effort and effortlessness? How can you move into one from another?
Very simple. Coming to the hall is your effort, and when you come and sit here its all effortless. (laughter) You don’t have to do anything. But to reach here you have to make some effort to come. Got it? Got it! See its your effort to open the windows but the breeze comes by itself, light comes by itself. Air comes by itself. Similarly when you have been here, effortlessly you get so much energy and then you go out and put your effort. And do what you need to do. When you’re acting put 100% effort. And when you’re resting, totally let go. Life is combination of both. Hmmmm? That is where most people miss the point. Either they keep putting effort all the time, or they’ll be so lazy and don’t put any effort at all. No life is a combination of day and night, sleep and activity, effort and effortlessness.

The whole universe is going to end, we are all going to die so what does it matter whether we do all this or not? Why you spend all your time and energy helping others?
My dear. If you ask the clouds, why do you rain? And ask the sun, why do you shine? Ask the river, why do you flow? What it would say? Its my nature. Someone asked me, what is your motivation? What motivates you to do all this? I said you need motivation if something is not in your nature. Motivation is short lived because it is an external stimuli. An imposed activity. Sun does not shine because it is imposed activity. It shines because it is its nature. It cant but shine! You get sick and tired when you go out of your nature. Or when you don’t know your nature. So you do everything by your nature then there is not problem. So helping is your nature, you cant but help. Whether the world lives for one day or one millennium, it does not matter. That time and space does not matter for you to express your own nature. Got it?

Why is it I don’t cry, even when someone very close dies in the family? I lost my dad last week but I didn’t shed a tear yet. Am I stone hearted?
Don’t judge yourself. You didn’t cry, you didn’t cry, that’s it. Doesn’t matter. Maybe you’re aware of the knowledge that everybodys going to die anyway. Somewhere it didn’t strike a cord. Maybe sometime when you feel grateful you may get some tears. Or you may just feel peace. There could be many reasons. Sometimes there are particular nadis in the system, when they open up only, you start crying. If they don’t open up you don’t cry. Not that you’re stone hearted, your bad. Not at all. That’s what happens in the Kriya also, you know sometimes people start crying and laughing. Doesn’t need to happen to everybody, for someone it happens, someone it doesn’t. Both are ok.

I really like the practice of meditation. And it bothers me that people seem to worship the guru. Can you explain the purpose/way of thinking about a guru?
You know, it’s a cultural thing. People come and touch their feet and bow down. If you go to Japan, they bow down half. If you go to India (guruji laughs) they bow down full. (laughter) (Paras note: Think they’re laughing about guruji’s joke. He always says ‘don’t bow down to me, you might miss the blessing) It has become a habit. Whenever they see any elderly person. Grandfather comes home, its duty for everybody to bow down. Grandmother, mother, family, any saint comes, anyone comes! It has become a habit. They even do to politicians. (laughter) They’ll see many states people, just go and bow down. To politicians. It is a cultural thing. And I’ve been telling people many times no no. People listen to me for a few minutes then they go to do their own. It’s a habit. I mean you should see in India sometimes it is very difficult. There were many police also, who were trying to control the crowd and everything. The policeman holds the crowd back and I get into the car. They forget they are policemen. And a policeman starts bowing down. (crazy laughter) And if the policeman starts bowing down, you can imagine what happens to the crowd in the back, they fall on top of them. (still crazy laughter) Recently it happened, once I was getting in the car and the policeman was very angry with the crowd trying to hold them back. But then when he saw me, he did the pranam. What happened, his hat flew on one side, his stick on the other side, and he hardly could get up. (still crazy laughter) And gather his stuff. And he turned back and was angry at the devotees. (even more laughter) And that was a scene I tell you. One minute he was angry at them and then he looked and me he starts smiling… please bless me. (crazy mad hysterical laughter and applause) I tell you it’s a big comedy show. (laughter)

The way our volunteers behave in our big satsangs and big gatherings in India. They’ll hold/form a chain, and then say move move move. They’re looking at me and shouting move move. Sometimes when they look back… there is nobody behind you! (Guruji laughs, everyone goes nuts laughing) Coz there are already… its all quadran’d off. And they are holding their hands and moving. When people are in love the way they express their love and gratitude, has no rules, has no regulations, has no limits. I have never said to anybody anytime, bow down, fall at my feet. (Guruji laughs) Absolutely not, but it’s a cultural thing, even in Taiwan, in China, other places, it will just happen. People will just… that’s the way to greet. They never shake hands, they do this or touch the feet. And we have all grown up doing that, as soon as, in the morning, first thing you have to touch the feet of the mother. Go and bow down to mother and father. If you had a fight with her, then also, because of the habit. HUH! I’m going to bow down. (Guruji laughs, everybody laughs) And she’ll say Huh! No use in bowing down, you don’t listen to me. (Guruji/everybody laughs) Of course in the west it looks little appalling to people, oh what are they doing. Coz its not in the cultural tradition. Same in the east when they see people kissing each other. So there are different cultural differences in different places.

In come villages, in some towns, small towns in India, if you go as a guest, they worship you. They wash your feet, every guest is called God. Say, god my dear god, oh please come god. They’ll worship every guest as a god. And they put the plate and they feed you food and give you… whatever they have… first feed you and they ask you what can I do for you? My god? Their address is like that ‘what can I do for you my god?’ Very innocent people so pure in their heart and they have no fear you know? Guest are welcomed in terms of god. Said where does god reside? Say in the mother, in the father, in the teacher and in the guest. And treat all of them as the messenger of the divine. This is the first lesson a child gets, learn from your mother, learn from your father, learn from the teacher, learn to honour everybody. And then honour the environment, honour the trees. If you want to cut a tree, first you have to take permission from the tree. They say ‘I have to cut you. Pardon me but I’m going to plan 5 saplings of your family’ Then they used to cut the tree. The same practices are present in all aboriginal people all around the world. To some extent they also do this, when you cut a tree they have to take permission. They are best conservators of nature. They preserve the nature. If you see the aboriginals in North America, or in Australia, New Zealand, some parts of India. They all have similar traditions and cultures, they do same things. Honour the nature. Honour the mountains. Honour the rivers. So you don’t exploit the nature, but make use of it with gratitude. It simply shows that fullness of the heart.

At a particular festival in India all the instruments are honoured or worshipped. You know scissors, knives, scooters, cars and busses and trucks, lorries, everything. Coz say, you have been of great help to me all the year, so I honour you. You know? Sense of honouring. Suddenly the whole universe becomes alive and full of life. You don’t see it as a dead object. You have an emotional feeling, an attachment. You know it happens automatically, naturally. I heard that in California a couple got divorced and then the whole fight was about… they went to court… about the chair they have been using for the past 40 years. The man used to use the chair for 40 years and he was so attached to the chair, he could let go of his wife but not the chair. (laughter) And the chair belonged to his wife, so she went to court for the chair. You start respecting, honouring, having a sense of attachment to objects around you. Giving it a little more authenticity, validity. Making it little more sacred, knowing that all these things in the universe is worth honouring. Knowing that it all belongs to god. It all belongs to that one creator. Is the method of ancient rishis, way of the ancient people.

Today many teachers and professors in the college are so tired, so depressed, because the children don’t honour them. When they don’t honour their guide, they don’t honour and respect their teachers, how are they going to learn from them? The indiscipline has found its peak. Because they don’t honour, they don’t respect anything! Anything for that matter. If god has made us, then god has also given us them mind. The thoughts are given by god. Everything is given by god then you have nothing to worry about. (laughter) If worry comes even, god is worrying you’re not worrying. (laughter) Sometimes you know we say ‘if god wants he will do it’, ‘god does everything but I suffer’. This will not work. If goes does everything and if suffering comes, he’s suffering also, you know. Oh god gave me this thought to eat more, but now I have a tummy ache. (laughter) You have the tummy ache, let god have the tummy ache. (laughter) You see, when you’re not the doer you’re not also the sufferer or the enjoyer of it. That’s a higher knowledge. To know that I’m not doer, its not a concept, it is an experience. Whenever you have done something very important or achieved something great, you’ll suddenly feel, oh I didn’t do it, it just happened. And same thing when you ask a hardened criminal in the prison, did you do it? He’ll say no. I don’t know how it happened, just happened.

Tell you something about secret and sacred. You know when you consider something sacred, what happens? You become totally alert. Coz you say this is a secret message. How I will take it? Your total attention and love and everything is there, when you consider something sacred. It’s a sacred thing, sacred book. You take it with both hands. The way you handle something sacred suddenly changes everything. And what is the advantage of it. The advantage is… it makes your brain alert. You mind alert. Its like a spark has suddenly become a flame. That spark that is in you suddenly becomes like a flame. Sacred… suddenly everything wakes up, from the slumber. Right? Same thing with secret.

Say, ‘I want to tell you a secret’.
‘Huh?’ (laughter) Wake up ‘Huh?!’
Suddenly you become so alert. (Guruji whispers) ‘I want to tell you a secret’…
‘Huh… tell me, tell me!’
‘I’ll tell you tomorrow’
‘No no tell me now!’. (laughter/applause)
‘Maybe I’ll tell you later’
‘No no why later, tell me now’ (laughter) (Paras note: LMAO Guruji is such a cartoon)
See you become so awake now ‘Tell me, tell me’.

Anything that’s a secret/is sacred suddenly enlivens you. Takes you deeper into awakening. That’s why the mantras that you are given, you know Sahaj mantras and all. Say keep it secret. It’s the same mantra (Paras note: Oh no he didn’t). But secret. (everyone goes nuts/laughter) So secret. Tell nobody. (extra mad laughter and applause). Shhhhh. Something precious. Coz something precious makes you so alive. Sacred and secret makes you so alive. You know its amazing how this ancient yogis and rishis had such a brilliant mind. They knew how the mind works. That’s why they gave a mantra into somebody’s ears. Shhhhh don’t tell anybody. (laughter) Keep it within you. (laughter) You go, ohhh I have something. So valuable nobody else has it. (laughter) You know, that enriches the whole consciousness. Brings that aliveness, its done at a small age. When somebody is 8 year old, 9 years old, each boy has got it. Shhhhh. Make a huge celebration for their initiation day. It’ll be all bangs and all food and relatives, everybody has come. The boys, then they take a shawl and put it on the head of the boy and the teacher will go whisper in the ear… secret mantra just for you. Hmmm?

We need to learn to honour our life, honouring ones life is meditation. Got it? Sit and honour your body. Honour your breath, honour your mind, honour the life in general. And see how meditation starts happening.

Some here believe that you are god. Do you encourage this belief. You have said that anything we see in you also exists in our self. That we should not put you in different category. How do you resolve this with the idea people have that you are god, a prophet or another incarnation of Jesus. Is not god in another category?
Some believe that you are god. They should know that I am god, no need of believing. (laughter/applause) There is nothing that can exist outside god, my dear, I tell you. If god is love, what you think you are made up of? We are all god, we are all made up of love. Certainly. I don’t encourage belief. I encourage everyone to know. You know yourself, then you will be able to know me. If you don’t know yourself, you cant know me. What is this personality, you and me’s. Is just a false idea. The subtler we go, there is no two. Can you say this is my air? This is my breath. No, the air that goes through your nose, goes into that persons nose, that persons nose, that person… Its like 2 magnetic compasses saying, my magnetic field, my magnetic field. Of course both indicate the same magnetic field. But the field is one. Similarly consciousness is only one. This little intellect, mind, they’re all layers. You have to surpass the layer then see who am I? Who you really are, that’s what I am. What I am is what you are. There are no persons at all in this planet. Its one ocean. If there’s two ocean then fish say my ocean, my life, my ocean, my life. Different bodies are exhibiting different intellect, that’s all. But the life is in the water. Do you get it? Subtler we go, there is no two, there is no difference. On the body level, yes your body is different, my bodys different. On the level of breath, no its one. Mind, even closer. Refinement! We go on the atomic level, its all one. The word atom comes from that athma, means the ultimate. The self. You think you exist that’s the problem, I know, there is nobody in here. (laughter) Hollow and empty. That is how all the prophets in the world who have been on this planet are expression of one consciousness. You know it’s the same sun that come through this window, that window or that window or that window in the morning, afternoon, evening, its all very different. Winter sun is different from spring, its different from summer, yet it’s the same sun. Are you with me? Are you understanding what I’m saying? So there is no need of having two categories. Wake up and see. All these categories are all ignorance. Childishness.

Is marriage and companionship essential for a complete life experience?
I don’t know. (laughter) Maybe in one of the lives, should be enough. (guruji laughs) Its not necessary that you have to experience everything in life. When your intellect is sharp enough. All other experience in the world becomes part of your own experience. It depends on your sensitivity, how much sensitive you are. You feel you’ve already experienced all that. And wider and vaster your exposure to the consciousness, your understanding of consciousness. You’ll see you are filled with billions of experiences. Billions of experiences.

How to become egoless or reduce the ego?
Just don’t worry. If you feel that you have an ego, just keep it there. Keep it in the pocket. Don’t try to reduce it, because that becomes a big ego. Look, I have reduced my ego. (laughter) Nobody could do it, I did it. (laughter) What did I do, I reduced my ego. (laughter) Ego seems to be hindering with all tasks. It is its job, let it do it. (laughter) If you had a dog and it wags its tail, its not its fault, let it be. (laughter) So what let it be. The way to deal with ego is let it be, so what. Ignoring it. You know if somebody is egoistic, how to handle them is to ignore their ego. Ignore their existence. (guruji laughs) You’ll see that he will feel that. Same way with you, you feel you have an ego, just ignore your own ego. Just move on. Agree to be fool for one day. Agree to be crazy just for one day. You will see how your ego has flown out of the window. Never mind, its not a big issue. You see what I’m saying? Hmmm? Well if it pinches or it pains, you know how to get rid of it. So-hum, so what. We have two weapons with us, one is? So what. Another is so-hum, so-hum, so-hum. All washed.

What is enlightenment, is it for everybody?
Yes. Enlightenment is just being in your nature. Becoming a child again. Becoming so strong from within. Nobody can shake your smile and peace… love that you are.

What is the shortest and fastest way to merge with guruji consciousness?
See guru consciousness is what? A consciousness which is vast, big. Is compassionate, full of love and wisdom. Its either called guru consciousness or Buddha nature. Everyone has? A Buddha nature within oneself. Similarly guru consciousness is the big mind within you. Hmmm. And by meditation, by service, being loving and compassionate and wise, you are that. Now when you start taking responsibility for everyone. Loving everyone as yours and part of you, and help and guide people around you. That consciousness is coming already in you. Ya? Nothing can disturb you and you know for sure. That is a/you’re dawning into that consciousness. When someone stands and just blames you. Shouts at you and you’re just there smiling, nothing is bothering you. You feel rather compassion, rather than anger. Then that consciousness is already dawning. Hmmm?

How do you have and maintain hope when the world is filled with so much pain? In the light of Iraqi prisoners abuse and people treat each other so terribly?
You know that’s why we need to be very active. Now at the present time, there is a course happening in the Bombay prison. 25 hardcore Islamic terrorists, Jihadis made a series of bomb blasts in Bombay. Killing 100s and 100s of people. Now the course is happening there. You know first day they were like this. Second day they opened up. You know transformation is now happening in them. See, nobody taught them human values. We need to teach people spirituality, human values. Hmmm? Otherwise such things continue to happen in the world. Like you teach people alphabets. You have to teach them, before they learn alphabets, you have to teach them how to behave with each other. Its all because of hatred and stress. And we have not taught anyone how to get rid of hatred. We have a big task and you’re all part of that task. Remember. (guruji laughs) Ya? (applause) You all have responsibility. Each one of you have the responsibility in you to bring that education, to bring that compassion and love in the world. Think this is your prime thing (?), before you depart from the world. You should (?) seeds of love and seeds of harmony. As much as possible. This should be your goal. What d’you think? Correct? (applause) We need to bring the healing touch. And all of us should work to bring that healing.

Why do we always sit on the floor instead of on a chair during meditation or Sudarshan Kriya?
You can sit on chair. Some people do sit on the chair. For Kriya its better you sit, so that you can lie down anytime that you want. (Guruji laughs/laughter) You know on chair maybe you feel little insecure, maybe I will fall down. (laughter) When you’re already on the ground you don’t worry about falling off. Can easily let go. But you can sit on a sofa, but sofas occupy a lot of space, we need double the space. See chairs are a little unstable. But choice is yours. Want to sit on the chair you’re most welcome. In fact it is better, some of you think you have to sit on the floor and sit on your backs and knees are paining and your legs are going to sleep and you’re unable to meditate. I tell you it is not necessary to torture yourself so much. (laughter) You better get up and sit in a chair comfortably. At least where you can let go. You know. How you should sit for meditation? (something sukham asan) Means you should be comfortable and should be steady. Not you change your position every 2 minutes. Ok? It should be comfortable and? Steady. Ok? Good good good good good.

How do you know if a thought or impulse to take action is a desire or just nature moving you to a positive direction? If desires take you away from the self, how do you know if it is for the right action?
See you want to go to New York and you just sit in the car and you go to New York, that’s is. That one thought takes you to New York. This is intention. Desire is. I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! That bugs you, you got into that feverishness! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! (laughter) When you go here and there, you run around, ten times in and out of the room and bathrooms and… (mad laughter) Back and forth and you get into the car and I want to go to New York, New York… you wind up into a mental hospital. (hahaha crazy laughter) You may not get to New York. All our actions happen through intention. Desire is that feverishness that grips your mind. Doesn’t let you have peace. Or doesn’t give you sense of comfort. But sometimes they come, what do you do? Now you should not say, oh I should not get desire, I should not get desire, I should not get desire, I should not get desire! (laughter) That has become another desire. (more laughter) Its like you got up from one well and fell in the other. (laughter) So when desires have come, they have come, ok just observe them, watch them, let them be, so what. Don’t fight with the desires, I don’t want it, push it away. Its like a ping pong, the more you throw it, faster it bounces back. You know, so just walk in life so light. Don’t take things too seriously. The smile and lightness. All the events come and go. Ok, this is one such.

In the desire, there are 3 types of desire. One is a desire is coming inside you because you have had that experience before. You have smoked cigarette, so that, because you have smoked several times, made into a habit. That desire comes up in you to smoke again. So you are very fond of apple pie, how could you be fond of apple pie if you had not experienced it? You experienced it several times so you become fond of it. So you want to do it again. First type of desire is propelled by your experiences. The second type of desire is because someone has that desire and it has clogged on to you. Some other persons desire has clogged on to your head. Coz of their desire you start doing. How many of you have had experienced this. Was not your desire to begin with, its from someone else’s desire and so you started behaving (?) because of their desire. The third type of desire is a mixture of these two. One is purely your desire, another is purely the other persons desire, the third is a mixture. Hmmm? Sometimes this is not so clear it is a mixture. Sometimes it is because of some karma. Something has to happen out of it so some karma, karmic desires. Suppose this particular thing had to happen in a place in such a way, suddenly that thought will come into you and make you do that action. That is karmic, its called karmic. So the three types. They come, you don’t know which is what many times. The best thing is just move on, they come and go. The more and more we go in clarity, you will see that they all just disappear.

See one of our Art of Living volunteers in Virginia, a doctor there. He kept mailing Bush everyday. That you must meet Sri Sri. The last 40 days, he said everyday he kept sending email. And he got a reply also there. (Guruji laughs) Something, some… I don’t know what reply was. He got some reply, from then he kept sending… you must meet Sri Sri, you must meet Sri Sri. Art of Living is doing some work in Iraq and all. You know. How those things manifest, many people asked me in California here and there. You should meet our president and tell him… whatever. (Guruji laughs) You know. And Dr. Balister wrote come, he said Guruji this time you ought to come, my desire is that you should meet our president, you should go to white house. He said, this time we have just put our toe, next time we will put our feet, and you’re third visit you’ll go to white house. You’ll be welcomed there. That was a small desire of his. Means what he wanted me, welcomed in the white house. That was his desire. I just smiled at him. This was the previous night. This is what he said after we had a reception in the congress. In the capital hill. Next morning, I didn’t have to first keep a toe and then the foot (guruji/everyone laughs) and then the whole body. Next morning everything happened in two hours. (guruji laughs) In two hours they said, White House there is a program we would like to invite you, can you come? I had a program in NASA. Said, ok after NASA immediately I will come and went. I was received. See the sankalpa of so many people, putting that sankalpa happened. We had no plan, we had no agenda, doing that sort of thing.

What I’m saying is this, the desire. The intention you put in a direction and it gets fortified in that calm and serene state of mind. In a feverish state of mind, you’re just clogged with that desire, nothing works. That’s why devotion works, why devotion works? How devotion works is so scientific. Coz when you are in love, when you are in devotion. Mind is in such a calm serene state. Then just that one intention. You don’t have any desire, even someone else has a desire that will work out. (guruji laughs) Do you see what I’m saying? The mechanics. I told Dr. B don’t worry, what is big thing about it? So what, its nothing great. What’s a big thing, one more desire fulfilled, so what. Its not a big deal. (guruji laughs) and it didn’t take 3 years for me to come in just happened in half a day. Do you see what I’m saying. Look at the science behind thought, that’s why if you think someone is bad, someone is hopeless, hopeless, hopeless. When you think like that all the time, even though they may be hopeless they’ll surely become hopeless. You have to from your side, put that positive sankalpa. Positive thought, it’ll work, things will happen. You know whenever we start a project, we don’t first collect money and then start a project. (guruji laughs) We do the other way around, unlike any corporation in the world who first budget and then start a program. In Art of Living we just start a program and then the money comes. People cannot understand how this could work. Do you see what I’m saying? You need to believe in yourself much more than you think you are. Have belief, faith in yourself. Your dreams, your ideas, your thoughts can find manifestation. At the right time, if it is right. Ya? That doesn’t mean you should be simply airy fairy, simply dreaming the whole day. No do anything physical and concrete. You have to have that balance in life. A dance can happen when there is balance between the dreams and practicality. Correct? Ok? (Guruji starts singing, everybody laughs and joins)
