Ok observe what is happening in the mind right now. What is happening? Whatever I say is secondary, but you being aware of what is happening right now with you is primary. See a question arises and you’re waiting for an answer. Are you aware of this? Or in your mind you say yes or no, you agree or disagree. Are you aware of this? This is a quality of consciousness which does not come unless we develop it, unless we call for it. See what I’m saying? There are few qualities in human beings which makes us different from an animal. Can you tell me what they are? How come human being are different from other animals. There are very few qualities, you can count them on one hand. One of them is laughing. You are bestowed with laughing. Understanding, though animals do have a degree of understanding, humans have it much different and much more. Though there is intelligence, even a bird or whatever, there is a small about of intelligence. Do you see that? They make their nest, they know how to pick up their food, they know, all their needs they take care. But they do not how to be aware of themselves. What is happening in them every moment. And this does not come in us unless we tap the source. For example we have been breathing all the time, aren’t we? Unless we put our attention, we will not be aware of the breath. You know the first act of life is you took a deep breath in and the last act is breathing out. First act was breathing and second is crying, and your last act you breathe out and make others cry. When you cried everybody else laughed, and when you laugh in the end, you will laugh ‘that is death’. Nobody asked about death. Total relief. When you laugh then everybody else cries. Just that shift, change of duties.

Between this first act of life and the last, all through life we are breathing. Not a single moment we suspend our breath. Whether eating, sleeping, walking, talking, etc the breath has been with us but we are not aware of it. Breath is the link between the body, your spirit and your mind. And there are rhythms in the breath, have you noticed your breathing is different in different state of your mind, emotions, thoughts. When you have a sigh of relief you breath out, exhalation is more prominent. And when you’re enjoying something, your inhalation is prominent. Your exhalation is in the background. So every mode/mood of mind, every wave of emotion in us has a corresponding rhythm in the breath and this rhythm in the breath has a corresponding sensation in different parts of the body. So they’re all linked, when we look at them, observe them, life becomes more integrated. Mind becomes more integrated, and we are able to do things more clearly and with more joy. If you observe your mind it’s either in the past or future. We regret the past and anxious about the future. Just imagine every exit you miss… ‘oh I should have taken that exit’. It should have happened that way, I made a mistake… every moment you think I made a mistake. In a very unconscious or subconscious manner you’re piling up some dust inside you. And that regret piles up and becomes so big… and you blow up. Have you seen this happening to you?

When you let go, your mind can be in the present moment. More and more and more, you’re able to smile from the depth of your heart. Life becomes more light and easy. You know what we do, when something wrong happens we either blame ourselves or somebody else. We don’t take things as they are. We want to find out a reason, label it and put the blame on somebody else or ourselves. So we constantly get into this trip of blaming someone or ourselves. Which leads into one another. You blame others because you blame yourself. And because you blame yourself you start blaming others. Do you see this pendulum that happens. Life has much more to offer to us. Don’t you think so? Someone asked forgiveness. First you think somebody has intentionally done something wrong to you. Then you try to forgive them. It becomes hard to. I’ll tell you compassion is better than forgiveness. The very word implies there is an intention in somebodies mistake. Somebody is bad so you’re going to forgive them. Peep into their hearts, go beyond their words, beyond their behaviour. You will see, they need compassion. They need help. They’re not happy. One who is happy will not make a mistake, will not harm anybody, will not be selfish. Cannot be selfish. Do not see intention behind somebody elses mistakes. See the inevitability behind others mistakes. Then you don’t need to forgive, you’ll simply smile at it. And you jump forward to help them. Does that make sense?

When there is a wound somewhere deep inside a person he will try to share that with other people, what else can he do? You just recognise, oh he needs compassion. Compassion is the only treatment, unconditional love is the only medicine. Letting go is the medicine for that. You know we try to hold on to people, even when we love we love with a condition. See I love you so in return you must love me or do something else. Better you prove your love to me.

See you doubt in the positivity of people, goodness of people. You don’t doubt in the negativity or badness in the people do you? Have you ever doubted in someones anger towards you? Have you ever said, are you really angry at me, I don’t believe it! (laughter) But if someone says I love you dear, you say ‘really’. Sure? Truly? Then prove it! Just examine what do you doubt always what is good. Whether it is in you or in someone else. When you’re depressed you never doubt your depression but when you’re happy you doubt… am I really happy, is this really what I want. And then mind says I’m not sure. You get the best job, what you desire and then ‘is this the best job, I’m not sure’. (laughter) But when you’re in a tight position, you don’t want to be there, do you doubt it? No, you don’t doubt that.

In order to trust you first understand your doubt. You doubt yourself and you doubt people around you, and then you doubt in the existence of god. Which is very abstract. The world lives on trust. Every aspect in life moves with trust. And even your life, if there is no trust at all, it cannot move an inch. I like a disease you know, when you doubt yourself, will I be able to do this. You doubt in your capabilities, you never doubt in your incapabilities. And because of this you start doubting in people around you. You start with an assumption ‘everybody is hopeless and a cheat, let me try to find who is the right person’. And it becomes so hard to find somebody right. Because you start with an assumption everybody is a cheat. You see what I’m saying? And the same, with the presence of something which is beyond comprehension of a small intellect, of our mind. Awareness of the divine, the divine presence. Now the question comes, how do you remember it all the time?

I tell you there is no need to remember it all the time. Forget about it. Your effort to remember god or divine all the time, is of no use. Now I ask you, do you remember your name all the time. Do you have to remember every morning, I am so and so? (laughter) Do you have to remember you live in Santa Barbara every morning? Do you have to remember that you have to eat, sleep, brush everyday? Or do you have to sit and memorise the names of all your relatives and friends. Or do you feel disconnected if you don’t remember your family anytime? NO! It’s not like remembering a poem or saying my god, my god. Of course you say often OH MY GOD! But when a different tone, you don’t remember god anyway. (laughter) All you remember is how bad the situation is. Remembrance is just experiencing the presence in the sense it was said then… being present, alert, awake. It’s not again and again thinking.

Do you make an effort to be joyful, to be loving. I tell you then you’re going the other way. The moment you make an effort to love somebody or to be happy. You cannot be! It’s a part of you. Same with the divine, divine is part of you. You cannot even if you want. Just being aware of it. Like being aware you are in Santa Barbara. It’s not a constant effortful thinking. You see what I’m saying? Often people were told remember god, immediately we come to the conclusion… it is an awful effortful thinking. Or doing. Those who do not know the truth will say those. When you experience joy, whenever you are happy, loving. All those moments you have been in touch with the divine nature that is deep inside you. When you are natural, when you don’t pretend, then you are very close to the divine. I’m not saying, you should not pretend.

If you are an air hostess in a plane you have to pretend with a smile on your face. Goodbye goodbye, welcome, nice having you on the flight, whatever. (laughter) All those words. Hope you enjoyed. You can do that. As long as you are aware that your real life is not just this, there is a real depth to it. There is another dimension to it. Now another thing is we keep looking whether people love us or like us or not. And we make efforts to love people and like them. Tell you… don’t worry. Even if they don’t like you or love you. From your side consider they do love you. So that your love at least gets protected. Otherwise when you think someone does not love you, then you will also stop loving them. Hasn’t this happened to you. Say even if somebody doesn’t love you, you just go and tell them ‘oh I know you love me so much’. Tell them 5-6 times and see the change in them. Even if they don’t love you they’ll start loving you. They can’t but. It just gets kindled, instead you keep challenging, asking do you really love me? If you really love me you wont do like this. You should be doing this way. When we put it like that, when we keep such measuring rods, then we are draining love. You see what I’m saying? What do you say?

Abundance. Abundance again is a state of mind within you. If you just look at lack, the lack increases in life. You may think you lack hundred thousand dollars, ok tomorrow you have hundred thousand dollars. Then you feel you lack 200 thousand dollars. A gentleman, a homeless prayed to god. Give me just 1 million and that’s it, I wont ask anything more. I can live all my life and half of it I will donate to other people. So god said ok, you have it. So he got a lottery. He got one million, but he had never spend so much, what should I do now. So he went looking in Sunset Boulevard, LA. And he found a home there, nice. A million and a quarter. (laughter) Said ohhhh I’m so unlucky, if only I had a quarter more. I’d have had this house of my dreams. I had always dreamt of this house all my life.

The lack continues. Don’t look at the lack. See what you have. You know, then abundance increases. You talk to any big movie producer or a big industrialist. You know they have big credit. You may have a 100,000 credit and they have 4 million credit. And you talk to the treasury of this country, they’ll say oh this country is in debt. We are in recession. It’s a huge debt. Isn’t it? You talk to the California state, whoever it is, what do you say treasury? Are they not in some debt? (audience – big debt) More money a person has, he invests in an industry, he wants to expand it so he gets a bigger loan and a bigger loan is again a? Debt! If he just looks at it he’s find and say oh its a big lack. Nobody can ever feel abundance if they just look at that. Focus, because where you put your energy, that increases in life. Your attention increases whatever, wherever it goes. If you think nobody loves me, everybody hates me, then I tell you that is what is going to happen. Coz you’re looking that way. I’m sure you’ll find that… say a nice person will not give you big smile, or they might not welcome you. A lot is because you are directing your attention that way. Take it for granted even if nobody loves you, say everyone loves me. The air loves me, that’s why it’s going inside me. The day the sun stops loving you, earth stops loving you, you can never be here. God loves you, that is enough.

And you are love! That is enough! There is no way, no action, you can ever convince anybody that you really love them. The more we try to do, we are doing the contrary. Have you observed that. It’s happening in every relationship. Nobody wants to get hurt. They love each other, yet they are unable to convince each other. Isn’t this the problem in the world today? All the broken marriages, they do not really want to break. But they cannot live with them. Why? They are tired of convincing the other person that they really love them. And all that they do to convince that they really care for them, turns the other way around. Only way, is to be in this space. Only this is fairness. Otherwise all looks unfair. You can say God is really unfair. Either think that way, mercilessly takes everything away and floods the places. Everything falls, irrespective.

Whenever you want to see fairness, you are setting a standard in your mind and you want a feat to happen. I tell you it cannot happen all the time. I’m not saying it’s wrong to have a standard, it’s only fair to be i time. What I’m saying is this thought of fairness should not ferment inside you coz this raises a big question. And when this question stays fermented for a longer time, becomes violence. Behind every criminal the question of fairness comes. What is fair? This is not fair. That’s how it starts. This is not fair becomes ‘really unfair’. They start acting that way isn’t it. Don’t worry about what is fair and unfair. Relax and do whatever you can. You have to live in a world which is so diverse, so many different type of people are here. Their ideas are completely contradictory/opposite. Some are interested in rebirth, some are interested in death, some in happiness, some sorrow. There is variety in this world. You have to live amidst that. In this world there are many thieves/robbers and so is the police department. Just imagine there are not thieves/robbers… why should there be a police department. There is suffering so there is kindness and compassion and help. Completely opposite and they do exist… they co-exist. Just re understand this and we becomes fair to our self. And our mind comes in tune.

So our daily life we can live with a smile form inside. Why do we live, what we want. You’ll see all that we want is happiness. And the whole life we prepare to be happy and we are never happy. It’s like making bed all night and having no time to sleep. If you just take statistics. One third we spend in our beds, 10 years in the dining table, in the bathroom say 3 hours that adds to another 10 years. On the freeway/road… how much? Working/earning money 25-30. So how many have we lived with a smile, with love, with joy. You’ll maybe calculate 3 years? (laughter) But if you are aware, if your heart is open, you can see every moment you can live in that moment/in the knowledge. No matter what you’re doing, you don’t have to get away from all this and sit in some mountain, some monastery… no no. You can be doing your work, do all you want to do and maintain that inner awareness.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Viv gave me this book to try and figure it out. He was like he know’s what it says but it’s hard to make sense of it. Well that’s what it’s all about. Dude has so much knowledge in the book but he’s tried to redefine already used words to something else which is hard to reconfigure or his sentences are too complicated or he’s basically having a conversation with himself which would be better heard than read. Too much hassle for bits of great knowledge here and there although… the was some great symbolism too. And anyway all he’s saying at the end of the say is focus on Now! Now! Now! So why a full book on it!!!!??? And towards the end I come across the heading saying women are more enlightened than men… oh boy… that’s just inspired me to type something in my thoughts so look out for that. The contents should explain most of it. Oh and the whole book is in Q&A format and basically I’m not trying to plug AOL but everything is explained much better in parasuniversal.com’s Something Deeper section.

The Four Pillars of Knowledge by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The Four Pillars of Knowledge by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Knowledge is very simple. Its the simplest. And so it’s not too easy. (giggles) Potentially it’s available, but dynamically it’s not available. Though you are that, yet to know that you are that, needs some preparation. God is the cheapest commodity available because outside Got there can be nothing. There is no outside at all. But then why is it not as an experiential reality in everyone? This is a fundamental question in everyone. If I am God why is it that I don’t know I am God? Why do have to go through all this? Why is it not my experience. And just listening to that does not do anything, does not ring a bell, just makes a concept.

So there are all these practices. Which are like sign boards. It’s just like saying look at the star above the sky. Which star? That star about the branch of the tree. So you show the branch in order to show the star and the star has nothing to do with the branch of a tree. So you find many enlightened people who simply discard the branch of the tree and say useless to do any practice, it’s not necessary. But they’ve missed a very important factor. Simply enunciating the truth does not help. You have to see from where the seeker is and take them from there to move onwards. Simply describing the destination, the house… is not sufficient. You have to be given the road map, the route, which exit to take. Otherwise you’d be in the freeway all the time, not knowing which way you have to exit. It could be ongoing never ending journey. Directions are essential. And there are 4 major qualification/points that one has to have in order to reach the self. These are called the 4 pillars or the 4 implements, the 4 tools.

1 – Viveka (Grossly translated as discrimination)
It’s not just discrimination. Viveka is the understanding or observation that everything is changing. Whatever you consider as stationery or solid is neither stationery nor solid… they are changing. Every changing nature, ever changing reality. And a thorough understanding of this is called viveka. Everything is changing. Our body is changing, every cell, every minute new cells are being generated and old cells are dying. Every time you breath out old energy goes out, new energy comes into the body when you breathe in. Our body is a bundle of atoms. And atoms are always disintegrating, changing. As body starts growing. Same with the whole world, Universe. The Earth is changing. Our thoughts are changing, emotions are changing. You’re not the same person you were yesterday and you will not be tomorrow. You’re changing. You cannot maintain the same degree of sadness everyday. (laughter) You will see it fluctuates. Higher or does down. Or you maybe unhappy for different reasons on different days. You can never be unhappy for the same reason all through, there will be variation in degree. Same way for joy also. Your moods, feelings, emotions… everything is changing. (Paras note: So what he’s trying to say is Everything is changing)

But there is something different from us that is not changing. This discrimination between something that is not changing and everything else is changing is Viveka. You do not know what is not changing, but you can feel and recognize what is changing. The moment you see things changing, simultaneously you start seeing that the one who is observing the change is not changing. Otherwise how can they say one is changing. The reference of change is non-change. Otherwise changes cannot be perceived at all. Viveka, recognizing the changes. Changing characteristics of our sounding, changing nature of our body, of our emotion, of life in general. This very thing would reduce 99% of the misery that you face. You have a fixed thought about your future and this will be like this and you foresee… all the fears, anxiety, unhappiness comes up in you. Because you’re foreseeing all that negativity come up in you. Who knows, how do you know that things are going to be bad. And in order to avoid that you try to affirm yourself… oh no no everything will be good. But deep inside you feel something is going to be bad. Or vice versa. You know all this positive thinking… it’s very… (laughter). It’s not a very intelligent thing to do you know, positive thinking is pulling you somewhere negative. Just see everything is changing. And changes happen. This is the nature of world, it is such. A great relief comes, unconditioning of the mind. This condition to fix things. Viveka.. the first pillar.

2 – Vairaghya (Grossly translated as dispassion)
Behind every misery there is a hope. The fuel for miserable people is hope. (giggles). There is a deep desire of some joy. Perhaps if I change my job, go to another town, change my partnership… then I’ll be happier. People who are single thing they’ll be happier if they get married, people who are married think I was better off all by myself. Or they think if I have a kid I’ll be happy, people who have children think if the children grow up and be on their on then I’ll be happy. Forseeing happiness sometime in the future makes one miserable right now. Desire for some pleasure in the future, either worldly or in the heaven. One misses the boat. If you cannot row one boat you cannot row any other boat. Changing the boat does not help you. But this hope in the mind, if I change the boat then I can row another boat. This is the very cause of misery. Do you see this in the world? Look in the life of an individual or look in a society. Various status… its the same story. A child thinks if he grows older then he has more power, control, freedom. He thinks the joy is in getting older and becoming a college student. Look at the college student, if I get a job and I do my own business, then I’ll be more indipendent, then I’ll be more happy. And see those who are on their own, I should get right partner for me. Somebody who matter, my soulmate. If i meet my soulmate then I’ll be happy. You have met your soulmate are you happy now? (laughter). If the soulmate is happy then only I can be happy. Then your eyes are all the time on the soulmate wether he/she is happy. (laughter) And small things they do hurt you. Small things, not intentionally, they were preoccupied they didn’t give a big smile to you. Fun finished! (laughter) They want an explanation that why didn’t you smile at me. And the whole soap opera begins. (mad laughter) One wants the baby, other doesn’t. What to do… ok compromise. (mad laughter) One way or another yo uhave to compromise. Both desires cannot be fulfilled at the same time.

And the children, then you have to make sure they go to a good school, right environment, are they behaving properly, are they alright, not sick, getting well. All your mind energies. Then you keep thinking when they grow older how will they settle, then you’ll be happy. You’ll have your own time. Same thing in society. Someone says I become a manager of a company, I’ll be happy. Managers think I should be a director. Directors thing I should be the international head. Ok you have an international chain of companies, what you have got? Blood pressure, heart ache, kidney failure, liver problems, travel sickness, insomnia. It is too big I cannot manage this. They are jealous about their employees. Employees just come and have their salary go home happily to sleep. And there are people who are ready to suffer here. You know why? They know they will get some better comfort up there in the heaven when they die. Let me suffer here so that when I die and go to heaven I’ll get all joy, pleasure will come to me. I can be in a royal suite there. So what? Every pleasure just leaves you where you are, it doesn’t carry you anywhere. Pleasure only tires you. Something very beautiful, how long can you go on looking at it. Your eyelids will fall, you will tire. A beautiful perfume, you want to put your nose in the bottle? People working in perfume factories are sick of perfumes. A great smell, what can you do? How long can you smell? You like doughnuts, how much can you stuff through you mouth. Icecream you like, how much can you swallow? How many have you had? How many chocolate fudge has gone through this hole called mouth? (laughter) So what? Do you see, how much food has gone through this hole called mouth? Just calculate? If one day you consume one kilo, in a whole year? 365 kilo. If you’re 45 years how many tons? Several tons of food grain stuffed through this hole. (laughter) Music, beautiful music, talk, everything you’ve heard. How long can you hear? How much can you hear? Sense of touch, how long can you go on touching? It drains you. You become like a wreck. Tried, exhausted. And the whole world is full of pleasure for these 5 senses. Objects of these 5 senses. It doesn’t take you any further, it doensn’t elevate you to great heights of bliss.

An attitude of so what, let it be. Takes away the feverishness in you. Takes away the passion in you. Takes you to that pillar of dispassion. Remember that dispassion is not apathy. Often we think dispassion is being totally unenthusiastic, depressed, not interested in anything. This is not dispassion. Dispassion is lack of feverishness. Same thing, ok if I do so many techniques, I’ll achieve some merit somewhere in the heaven. This feverishness is also not vairaghya. Dispassion towards enjoyments of this world or the other, the seen or unseen, external or inner. Is the second pillar that makes you very solid on your path. See what I’m saying?

3 – 6 Wealths (Shama, damha, uparati, titiksha, shraddha and samadhana.)
These are called wealth, it’s not something that you do to get you have them. Like wealth… your capital.
a) Shama
When the mind wants to do too many things it’s completely scattered. When there is vairaghya, the 3rd pillar automatically becomes stronger… you automatically start to have a focus. Your mind is more alert.

b) Damha
Having a say on our own senses. You know many times you don’t want to say and you say things. May times you don’t want to see but you see. Suppose you’re travelling on the plane and there is a movie going on. You see it and you say oh rubbish, let me go to sleep. And then after a little while you open your eyes and see again. And you become curious, you put your headphones also and see more. You have decided 3 times not to see but you kept on seeing the movie. Has this happened to you? Coz there’s some curiosity that comes to you, what has happened let me see. Same with food, ok I will not eat anything today and some nice food is served and it comes to your nose and you say ok let me have a bite. One bite and then one more bite and then one more… to your surprise you see you have stuffed more than your tummy can take. Damha, where you have a say on your senses. They don’t drag you and you’re not carried away by them but you’ll say yes or no. Most of the time it’s not you who says yes or no, it’s the senses that say yes or no to you.

c) Titiksha
Endurance. Forbearance. When opposite things come you are able to forebear it without being shaken and shattered. In life some pleasant some unpleasant events happen. So what? None of them stays forever. Health, sickness, moods, loss, gains, people, friends, foes come and go. Do you see even small children you can find that, small thing happens they cry for hours. Other children will cry for one minute and they change their mind. Even in adults you find the same thing. Relationship break and they’re broken for a long period of time. They are still chewing on the … chewing gum. There’s nothing in it, the flavor is gone. To all things… see what was unpleasant before became pleasant, what was pleasant became unpleasant. They all the time change. What one thought was to be very bad later on it did something good to you… it made you strong somewhere. Just understanding this, not holding on to what all good, bad, right, wrong. Choices in the mind. Not getting carried away by them is called titiksha. See a game is where you lose and win, where both is part of it. Isn’t it? Where there is more chance of losing the game it’s more charming. The game has value when it is tough. Isn’t it? So all little problems that come is life is part of the whole game and seeing that this is not going to shake me at all. Just turn back and look and see through all those different situations you’ve gone in life. In-spite of it all you’re still total and complete today. They cannot destroy you, you’re much more powerful than them, and significant than them. This very understanding, whatever events come in my life. All these events, pleasant, unpleasant, happy, unhappy… cannot do anything to me, with this forbearance that rises in you. Is the third wealth.

d) Uparati
Rejoicing in your nature. Being in your nature. Often you’re not in your nature you’re doing things because somebody else says or does. Often people do things, buy big homes so people can look and say something to them. For approval of others. If we do something like that then we are not in touch with our nature. Be in your nature. Being in the present moment, in the joy that you are. Rejoicing in anything that you do. That is uparati. Letting go of everything. And then taking everything focused and seriously is also uparati. Totally opposite values is but making together. Living them together. That is uparati. Being playful.

e) Shraddha
Faith. Faith is needed when you’re knowing has found it’s limit. When you have found the limit of your knowing. You know this far and you don’t know anything beyond that. Your willingness to know is faith. If your mind says this is it, nothing beyond. That fixation is fanaticism. That is ego, I know it all. But when you know the whole thing, there is beyond, and this entire creation is from beyond, the unknowable, recognition of the unknowable. Guruvedant vakyeshav (spelling). Vishvas itishraddha (spelling). Faith in the self, the master, the divine… in the infinite. Infinite order of things. Faith in that love of infinity. This is shraddha. We can understand this in a simpler manner. Your doubt has 3 divisions. 1 – Doubt the self, 2 – doubt the other, 3 – doubt the whole. 99.99999% of the people doubt the whole because they do not even believe that the whole that is functioning. People talk about god a lot. But go deep and you find that the faith is shaken. There is no faith. There exists an infinite organizing intelligent power which is in total control of everything. This faith is absent. If it is there, its just an outside decoration, like a badge on you. Your badges do not indicate you, so if your badges are gone nothing in you is gone. And then the doubt in people. When someone says I love you, you doubt them. Do you really love me? Prove it. But if somebody is angry you don’t doubt… are you really angry with me? Just notice your doubt is always about the positivity about other people. You take it for granted that other people are hopeless. Then you try to find the trust in this and that person. And you’re are unable to do it. Most of you suffer from this disease because from the basic understanding you take it for granted that everybody is a cheat. You cannot trust anybody then. And this pains you because it is connected to yourself, faith in your own self. Self doubt is the third doubt. You never doubt your anger, depression, sadness, sorrow, misery. But you doubt all the positive qualities you have. You doubt in your capabilities, you don’t doubt in your in-capabilities. You see what I’m saying? Doubt the incapability in you, doubt in your limitations! Who knows that you will become next moment. Who knows that molecules and atoms are inside you. What great personalities, beautiful noble characters are in you… and when it will blossom. How many Budhas, tathagaths, bhodhi satva, apostles, vivek ananandas. Doubt in your in-capabilities, in-capacities… then your capabilities grow. Then you will doubt in the negative of people and attribute it to their stress. Then the trust in everyone grows. And you (couldn’t hear) find that divine existence… there is only one mind, intelligence, one being… there are no two people, there is only one life. And a master is there to practically demonstrate to you, I am you , you are me. And when a master says this, seeing the master as he is, not through blocked vision. Suspicious eyes… that is shraddha. A master does not have to get anything from you, but if you see with the same suspicious eyes, what is he up to. Then you will go on reeling around in your own small little mind, you will be unable to peep to the divine existence. You’ll miss the whole joy, the essence which you’re longing for. Knowingly or unknowingly. See when we say, ok we’ll sing this and it will bring some soothing influence. And you start singing and you start feeling it… you do feel it. Isn’t it? After meditation, ok listen to some chanting, listen to some veda it brings some influence. Its this faith in it. Ok yes, let me do it, without faith you will not do it at all. It’s like someone saying, first let me learn swimming then let me get into the water. You have to get in the water in order to learn. To much preparedness, this is what it is. Being too cautious, I tell you these people miss the joy in life. Faith. You believe you have a coach then you get into the water and you learn swimming. Isn’t it? No activity can happen in this world without the element of faith. You have faith in your banks so you put your money there. You have faith in the law and order so you park your car. You wont be sitting here. Do you see that? You have faith in the airlines so you know you can go home after 4-5 days, the house will be there, electricity, what, what. Telephone company believes in you so they give you the line. That’s why you are given credit cards and all that. Take any system! Medicine, doctors have faith this medicine will have this effect. Thought they cannot guarantee. This very probability factor introduces the faith. If there is 0% probability then there is no faith. But if there is even 1% probability, that means it’s not knowledge, it is faith. And the faith is a beautiful quality of your consciousness, blossoming of your being. It’s one of the wealth.

f) Samadhana
Being at ease. Do you see how you feel when you’re at ease. Do you remember? How does it feel when you’re totally at east, serene, calm. Being at ease with yourself, with your environment, with people around you, with everything. The whole. This is samadhana. This is a wealth by itself. These 6 wealth together form the 3rd pillar.

4 Mumukshatva
The desire for the highest. A desire for freedom. Enlightenment. First of all you can desire it only when you feel it is possible for you. When you think it is not possible, you cannot even desire it. If you feel all the good qualities cannot come in you, and slowly when you eliminate, until you think you cannot do anything… a deep desire, a longing in your for the divine. A longing for infinity, bigger life. A longing to be a devotee, servant, beloved, to be part and parcel of the whole. These potentialities in you cannot be uncovered or woken up. If you don’t desire it. Unless someone wants to learn meditation you cannot force someone, it should come from within, the desire to learn. This is the fourth pillar. Mumukshatva. Which you already have, don’t think you have to attain this, that is why you are already here. To some extent you have all these 4 essential pillars for sadhana. You put some more attention on it, they become stronger and more solid. Build it a little higher. Hmmmm? That much for today.

TURN A MOUSE INTO A LION by Ravi Shankar (Hudson Valley, May 2004)

TURN A MOUSE INTO A LION by Ravi Shankar (Hudson Valley, May 2004)
Its hard to imagine my ever being very courageous. In fact most of the time I feel like a mouse. Can the qualities of love and meditation turn even a mouse into a Buddha?
Certainly. This knowledge will turn mud into gold, mouse into a lion. You know a child saw a cartoon or some picture that someone with a beard and hair came and turned somebody into a frog. So when that family came here yesterday, the child saw me and started crying thinking that. (mad laughter) And the boy said to the dad ‘dad he’s going to turn me into a frog I don’t want to go near’. (more laughter) A Buddha is present even inside a mouse. The nature of Buddha is everywhere. So definitely it can blossom.

My dearest guruji, can you please talk about self effort and effortlessness? How can you move into one from another?
Very simple. Coming to the hall is your effort, and when you come and sit here its all effortless. (laughter) You don’t have to do anything. But to reach here you have to make some effort to come. Got it? Got it! See its your effort to open the windows but the breeze comes by itself, light comes by itself. Air comes by itself. Similarly when you have been here, effortlessly you get so much energy and then you go out and put your effort. And do what you need to do. When you’re acting put 100% effort. And when you’re resting, totally let go. Life is combination of both. Hmmmm? That is where most people miss the point. Either they keep putting effort all the time, or they’ll be so lazy and don’t put any effort at all. No life is a combination of day and night, sleep and activity, effort and effortlessness.

The whole universe is going to end, we are all going to die so what does it matter whether we do all this or not? Why you spend all your time and energy helping others?
My dear. If you ask the clouds, why do you rain? And ask the sun, why do you shine? Ask the river, why do you flow? What it would say? Its my nature. Someone asked me, what is your motivation? What motivates you to do all this? I said you need motivation if something is not in your nature. Motivation is short lived because it is an external stimuli. An imposed activity. Sun does not shine because it is imposed activity. It shines because it is its nature. It cant but shine! You get sick and tired when you go out of your nature. Or when you don’t know your nature. So you do everything by your nature then there is not problem. So helping is your nature, you cant but help. Whether the world lives for one day or one millennium, it does not matter. That time and space does not matter for you to express your own nature. Got it?

Why is it I don’t cry, even when someone very close dies in the family? I lost my dad last week but I didn’t shed a tear yet. Am I stone hearted?
Don’t judge yourself. You didn’t cry, you didn’t cry, that’s it. Doesn’t matter. Maybe you’re aware of the knowledge that everybodys going to die anyway. Somewhere it didn’t strike a cord. Maybe sometime when you feel grateful you may get some tears. Or you may just feel peace. There could be many reasons. Sometimes there are particular nadis in the system, when they open up only, you start crying. If they don’t open up you don’t cry. Not that you’re stone hearted, your bad. Not at all. That’s what happens in the Kriya also, you know sometimes people start crying and laughing. Doesn’t need to happen to everybody, for someone it happens, someone it doesn’t. Both are ok.

I really like the practice of meditation. And it bothers me that people seem to worship the guru. Can you explain the purpose/way of thinking about a guru?
You know, it’s a cultural thing. People come and touch their feet and bow down. If you go to Japan, they bow down half. If you go to India (guruji laughs) they bow down full. (laughter) (Paras note: Think they’re laughing about guruji’s joke. He always says ‘don’t bow down to me, you might miss the blessing) It has become a habit. Whenever they see any elderly person. Grandfather comes home, its duty for everybody to bow down. Grandmother, mother, family, any saint comes, anyone comes! It has become a habit. They even do to politicians. (laughter) They’ll see many states people, just go and bow down. To politicians. It is a cultural thing. And I’ve been telling people many times no no. People listen to me for a few minutes then they go to do their own. It’s a habit. I mean you should see in India sometimes it is very difficult. There were many police also, who were trying to control the crowd and everything. The policeman holds the crowd back and I get into the car. They forget they are policemen. And a policeman starts bowing down. (crazy laughter) And if the policeman starts bowing down, you can imagine what happens to the crowd in the back, they fall on top of them. (still crazy laughter) Recently it happened, once I was getting in the car and the policeman was very angry with the crowd trying to hold them back. But then when he saw me, he did the pranam. What happened, his hat flew on one side, his stick on the other side, and he hardly could get up. (still crazy laughter) And gather his stuff. And he turned back and was angry at the devotees. (even more laughter) And that was a scene I tell you. One minute he was angry at them and then he looked and me he starts smiling… please bless me. (crazy mad hysterical laughter and applause) I tell you it’s a big comedy show. (laughter)

The way our volunteers behave in our big satsangs and big gatherings in India. They’ll hold/form a chain, and then say move move move. They’re looking at me and shouting move move. Sometimes when they look back… there is nobody behind you! (Guruji laughs, everyone goes nuts laughing) Coz there are already… its all quadran’d off. And they are holding their hands and moving. When people are in love the way they express their love and gratitude, has no rules, has no regulations, has no limits. I have never said to anybody anytime, bow down, fall at my feet. (Guruji laughs) Absolutely not, but it’s a cultural thing, even in Taiwan, in China, other places, it will just happen. People will just… that’s the way to greet. They never shake hands, they do this or touch the feet. And we have all grown up doing that, as soon as, in the morning, first thing you have to touch the feet of the mother. Go and bow down to mother and father. If you had a fight with her, then also, because of the habit. HUH! I’m going to bow down. (Guruji laughs, everybody laughs) And she’ll say Huh! No use in bowing down, you don’t listen to me. (Guruji/everybody laughs) Of course in the west it looks little appalling to people, oh what are they doing. Coz its not in the cultural tradition. Same in the east when they see people kissing each other. So there are different cultural differences in different places.

In come villages, in some towns, small towns in India, if you go as a guest, they worship you. They wash your feet, every guest is called God. Say, god my dear god, oh please come god. They’ll worship every guest as a god. And they put the plate and they feed you food and give you… whatever they have… first feed you and they ask you what can I do for you? My god? Their address is like that ‘what can I do for you my god?’ Very innocent people so pure in their heart and they have no fear you know? Guest are welcomed in terms of god. Said where does god reside? Say in the mother, in the father, in the teacher and in the guest. And treat all of them as the messenger of the divine. This is the first lesson a child gets, learn from your mother, learn from your father, learn from the teacher, learn to honour everybody. And then honour the environment, honour the trees. If you want to cut a tree, first you have to take permission from the tree. They say ‘I have to cut you. Pardon me but I’m going to plan 5 saplings of your family’ Then they used to cut the tree. The same practices are present in all aboriginal people all around the world. To some extent they also do this, when you cut a tree they have to take permission. They are best conservators of nature. They preserve the nature. If you see the aboriginals in North America, or in Australia, New Zealand, some parts of India. They all have similar traditions and cultures, they do same things. Honour the nature. Honour the mountains. Honour the rivers. So you don’t exploit the nature, but make use of it with gratitude. It simply shows that fullness of the heart.

At a particular festival in India all the instruments are honoured or worshipped. You know scissors, knives, scooters, cars and busses and trucks, lorries, everything. Coz say, you have been of great help to me all the year, so I honour you. You know? Sense of honouring. Suddenly the whole universe becomes alive and full of life. You don’t see it as a dead object. You have an emotional feeling, an attachment. You know it happens automatically, naturally. I heard that in California a couple got divorced and then the whole fight was about… they went to court… about the chair they have been using for the past 40 years. The man used to use the chair for 40 years and he was so attached to the chair, he could let go of his wife but not the chair. (laughter) And the chair belonged to his wife, so she went to court for the chair. You start respecting, honouring, having a sense of attachment to objects around you. Giving it a little more authenticity, validity. Making it little more sacred, knowing that all these things in the universe is worth honouring. Knowing that it all belongs to god. It all belongs to that one creator. Is the method of ancient rishis, way of the ancient people.

Today many teachers and professors in the college are so tired, so depressed, because the children don’t honour them. When they don’t honour their guide, they don’t honour and respect their teachers, how are they going to learn from them? The indiscipline has found its peak. Because they don’t honour, they don’t respect anything! Anything for that matter. If god has made us, then god has also given us them mind. The thoughts are given by god. Everything is given by god then you have nothing to worry about. (laughter) If worry comes even, god is worrying you’re not worrying. (laughter) Sometimes you know we say ‘if god wants he will do it’, ‘god does everything but I suffer’. This will not work. If goes does everything and if suffering comes, he’s suffering also, you know. Oh god gave me this thought to eat more, but now I have a tummy ache. (laughter) You have the tummy ache, let god have the tummy ache. (laughter) You see, when you’re not the doer you’re not also the sufferer or the enjoyer of it. That’s a higher knowledge. To know that I’m not doer, its not a concept, it is an experience. Whenever you have done something very important or achieved something great, you’ll suddenly feel, oh I didn’t do it, it just happened. And same thing when you ask a hardened criminal in the prison, did you do it? He’ll say no. I don’t know how it happened, just happened.

Tell you something about secret and sacred. You know when you consider something sacred, what happens? You become totally alert. Coz you say this is a secret message. How I will take it? Your total attention and love and everything is there, when you consider something sacred. It’s a sacred thing, sacred book. You take it with both hands. The way you handle something sacred suddenly changes everything. And what is the advantage of it. The advantage is… it makes your brain alert. You mind alert. Its like a spark has suddenly become a flame. That spark that is in you suddenly becomes like a flame. Sacred… suddenly everything wakes up, from the slumber. Right? Same thing with secret.

Say, ‘I want to tell you a secret’.
‘Huh?’ (laughter) Wake up ‘Huh?!’
Suddenly you become so alert. (Guruji whispers) ‘I want to tell you a secret’…
‘Huh… tell me, tell me!’
‘I’ll tell you tomorrow’
‘No no tell me now!’. (laughter/applause)
‘Maybe I’ll tell you later’
‘No no why later, tell me now’ (laughter) (Paras note: LMAO Guruji is such a cartoon)
See you become so awake now ‘Tell me, tell me’.

Anything that’s a secret/is sacred suddenly enlivens you. Takes you deeper into awakening. That’s why the mantras that you are given, you know Sahaj mantras and all. Say keep it secret. It’s the same mantra (Paras note: Oh no he didn’t). But secret. (everyone goes nuts/laughter) So secret. Tell nobody. (extra mad laughter and applause). Shhhhh. Something precious. Coz something precious makes you so alive. Sacred and secret makes you so alive. You know its amazing how this ancient yogis and rishis had such a brilliant mind. They knew how the mind works. That’s why they gave a mantra into somebody’s ears. Shhhhh don’t tell anybody. (laughter) Keep it within you. (laughter) You go, ohhh I have something. So valuable nobody else has it. (laughter) You know, that enriches the whole consciousness. Brings that aliveness, its done at a small age. When somebody is 8 year old, 9 years old, each boy has got it. Shhhhh. Make a huge celebration for their initiation day. It’ll be all bangs and all food and relatives, everybody has come. The boys, then they take a shawl and put it on the head of the boy and the teacher will go whisper in the ear… secret mantra just for you. Hmmm?

We need to learn to honour our life, honouring ones life is meditation. Got it? Sit and honour your body. Honour your breath, honour your mind, honour the life in general. And see how meditation starts happening.

Some here believe that you are god. Do you encourage this belief. You have said that anything we see in you also exists in our self. That we should not put you in different category. How do you resolve this with the idea people have that you are god, a prophet or another incarnation of Jesus. Is not god in another category?
Some believe that you are god. They should know that I am god, no need of believing. (laughter/applause) There is nothing that can exist outside god, my dear, I tell you. If god is love, what you think you are made up of? We are all god, we are all made up of love. Certainly. I don’t encourage belief. I encourage everyone to know. You know yourself, then you will be able to know me. If you don’t know yourself, you cant know me. What is this personality, you and me’s. Is just a false idea. The subtler we go, there is no two. Can you say this is my air? This is my breath. No, the air that goes through your nose, goes into that persons nose, that persons nose, that person… Its like 2 magnetic compasses saying, my magnetic field, my magnetic field. Of course both indicate the same magnetic field. But the field is one. Similarly consciousness is only one. This little intellect, mind, they’re all layers. You have to surpass the layer then see who am I? Who you really are, that’s what I am. What I am is what you are. There are no persons at all in this planet. Its one ocean. If there’s two ocean then fish say my ocean, my life, my ocean, my life. Different bodies are exhibiting different intellect, that’s all. But the life is in the water. Do you get it? Subtler we go, there is no two, there is no difference. On the body level, yes your body is different, my bodys different. On the level of breath, no its one. Mind, even closer. Refinement! We go on the atomic level, its all one. The word atom comes from that athma, means the ultimate. The self. You think you exist that’s the problem, I know, there is nobody in here. (laughter) Hollow and empty. That is how all the prophets in the world who have been on this planet are expression of one consciousness. You know it’s the same sun that come through this window, that window or that window or that window in the morning, afternoon, evening, its all very different. Winter sun is different from spring, its different from summer, yet it’s the same sun. Are you with me? Are you understanding what I’m saying? So there is no need of having two categories. Wake up and see. All these categories are all ignorance. Childishness.

Is marriage and companionship essential for a complete life experience?
I don’t know. (laughter) Maybe in one of the lives, should be enough. (guruji laughs) Its not necessary that you have to experience everything in life. When your intellect is sharp enough. All other experience in the world becomes part of your own experience. It depends on your sensitivity, how much sensitive you are. You feel you’ve already experienced all that. And wider and vaster your exposure to the consciousness, your understanding of consciousness. You’ll see you are filled with billions of experiences. Billions of experiences.

How to become egoless or reduce the ego?
Just don’t worry. If you feel that you have an ego, just keep it there. Keep it in the pocket. Don’t try to reduce it, because that becomes a big ego. Look, I have reduced my ego. (laughter) Nobody could do it, I did it. (laughter) What did I do, I reduced my ego. (laughter) Ego seems to be hindering with all tasks. It is its job, let it do it. (laughter) If you had a dog and it wags its tail, its not its fault, let it be. (laughter) So what let it be. The way to deal with ego is let it be, so what. Ignoring it. You know if somebody is egoistic, how to handle them is to ignore their ego. Ignore their existence. (guruji laughs) You’ll see that he will feel that. Same way with you, you feel you have an ego, just ignore your own ego. Just move on. Agree to be fool for one day. Agree to be crazy just for one day. You will see how your ego has flown out of the window. Never mind, its not a big issue. You see what I’m saying? Hmmm? Well if it pinches or it pains, you know how to get rid of it. So-hum, so what. We have two weapons with us, one is? So what. Another is so-hum, so-hum, so-hum. All washed.

What is enlightenment, is it for everybody?
Yes. Enlightenment is just being in your nature. Becoming a child again. Becoming so strong from within. Nobody can shake your smile and peace… love that you are.

What is the shortest and fastest way to merge with guruji consciousness?
See guru consciousness is what? A consciousness which is vast, big. Is compassionate, full of love and wisdom. Its either called guru consciousness or Buddha nature. Everyone has? A Buddha nature within oneself. Similarly guru consciousness is the big mind within you. Hmmm. And by meditation, by service, being loving and compassionate and wise, you are that. Now when you start taking responsibility for everyone. Loving everyone as yours and part of you, and help and guide people around you. That consciousness is coming already in you. Ya? Nothing can disturb you and you know for sure. That is a/you’re dawning into that consciousness. When someone stands and just blames you. Shouts at you and you’re just there smiling, nothing is bothering you. You feel rather compassion, rather than anger. Then that consciousness is already dawning. Hmmm?

How do you have and maintain hope when the world is filled with so much pain? In the light of Iraqi prisoners abuse and people treat each other so terribly?
You know that’s why we need to be very active. Now at the present time, there is a course happening in the Bombay prison. 25 hardcore Islamic terrorists, Jihadis made a series of bomb blasts in Bombay. Killing 100s and 100s of people. Now the course is happening there. You know first day they were like this. Second day they opened up. You know transformation is now happening in them. See, nobody taught them human values. We need to teach people spirituality, human values. Hmmm? Otherwise such things continue to happen in the world. Like you teach people alphabets. You have to teach them, before they learn alphabets, you have to teach them how to behave with each other. Its all because of hatred and stress. And we have not taught anyone how to get rid of hatred. We have a big task and you’re all part of that task. Remember. (guruji laughs) Ya? (applause) You all have responsibility. Each one of you have the responsibility in you to bring that education, to bring that compassion and love in the world. Think this is your prime thing (?), before you depart from the world. You should (?) seeds of love and seeds of harmony. As much as possible. This should be your goal. What d’you think? Correct? (applause) We need to bring the healing touch. And all of us should work to bring that healing.

Why do we always sit on the floor instead of on a chair during meditation or Sudarshan Kriya?
You can sit on chair. Some people do sit on the chair. For Kriya its better you sit, so that you can lie down anytime that you want. (Guruji laughs/laughter) You know on chair maybe you feel little insecure, maybe I will fall down. (laughter) When you’re already on the ground you don’t worry about falling off. Can easily let go. But you can sit on a sofa, but sofas occupy a lot of space, we need double the space. See chairs are a little unstable. But choice is yours. Want to sit on the chair you’re most welcome. In fact it is better, some of you think you have to sit on the floor and sit on your backs and knees are paining and your legs are going to sleep and you’re unable to meditate. I tell you it is not necessary to torture yourself so much. (laughter) You better get up and sit in a chair comfortably. At least where you can let go. You know. How you should sit for meditation? (something sukham asan) Means you should be comfortable and should be steady. Not you change your position every 2 minutes. Ok? It should be comfortable and? Steady. Ok? Good good good good good.

How do you know if a thought or impulse to take action is a desire or just nature moving you to a positive direction? If desires take you away from the self, how do you know if it is for the right action?
See you want to go to New York and you just sit in the car and you go to New York, that’s is. That one thought takes you to New York. This is intention. Desire is. I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! That bugs you, you got into that feverishness! I want to go to New York! I want to go to New York! (laughter) When you go here and there, you run around, ten times in and out of the room and bathrooms and… (mad laughter) Back and forth and you get into the car and I want to go to New York, New York… you wind up into a mental hospital. (hahaha crazy laughter) You may not get to New York. All our actions happen through intention. Desire is that feverishness that grips your mind. Doesn’t let you have peace. Or doesn’t give you sense of comfort. But sometimes they come, what do you do? Now you should not say, oh I should not get desire, I should not get desire, I should not get desire, I should not get desire! (laughter) That has become another desire. (more laughter) Its like you got up from one well and fell in the other. (laughter) So when desires have come, they have come, ok just observe them, watch them, let them be, so what. Don’t fight with the desires, I don’t want it, push it away. Its like a ping pong, the more you throw it, faster it bounces back. You know, so just walk in life so light. Don’t take things too seriously. The smile and lightness. All the events come and go. Ok, this is one such.

In the desire, there are 3 types of desire. One is a desire is coming inside you because you have had that experience before. You have smoked cigarette, so that, because you have smoked several times, made into a habit. That desire comes up in you to smoke again. So you are very fond of apple pie, how could you be fond of apple pie if you had not experienced it? You experienced it several times so you become fond of it. So you want to do it again. First type of desire is propelled by your experiences. The second type of desire is because someone has that desire and it has clogged on to you. Some other persons desire has clogged on to your head. Coz of their desire you start doing. How many of you have had experienced this. Was not your desire to begin with, its from someone else’s desire and so you started behaving (?) because of their desire. The third type of desire is a mixture of these two. One is purely your desire, another is purely the other persons desire, the third is a mixture. Hmmm? Sometimes this is not so clear it is a mixture. Sometimes it is because of some karma. Something has to happen out of it so some karma, karmic desires. Suppose this particular thing had to happen in a place in such a way, suddenly that thought will come into you and make you do that action. That is karmic, its called karmic. So the three types. They come, you don’t know which is what many times. The best thing is just move on, they come and go. The more and more we go in clarity, you will see that they all just disappear.

See one of our Art of Living volunteers in Virginia, a doctor there. He kept mailing Bush everyday. That you must meet Sri Sri. The last 40 days, he said everyday he kept sending email. And he got a reply also there. (Guruji laughs) Something, some… I don’t know what reply was. He got some reply, from then he kept sending… you must meet Sri Sri, you must meet Sri Sri. Art of Living is doing some work in Iraq and all. You know. How those things manifest, many people asked me in California here and there. You should meet our president and tell him… whatever. (Guruji laughs) You know. And Dr. Balister wrote come, he said Guruji this time you ought to come, my desire is that you should meet our president, you should go to white house. He said, this time we have just put our toe, next time we will put our feet, and you’re third visit you’ll go to white house. You’ll be welcomed there. That was a small desire of his. Means what he wanted me, welcomed in the white house. That was his desire. I just smiled at him. This was the previous night. This is what he said after we had a reception in the congress. In the capital hill. Next morning, I didn’t have to first keep a toe and then the foot (guruji/everyone laughs) and then the whole body. Next morning everything happened in two hours. (guruji laughs) In two hours they said, White House there is a program we would like to invite you, can you come? I had a program in NASA. Said, ok after NASA immediately I will come and went. I was received. See the sankalpa of so many people, putting that sankalpa happened. We had no plan, we had no agenda, doing that sort of thing.

What I’m saying is this, the desire. The intention you put in a direction and it gets fortified in that calm and serene state of mind. In a feverish state of mind, you’re just clogged with that desire, nothing works. That’s why devotion works, why devotion works? How devotion works is so scientific. Coz when you are in love, when you are in devotion. Mind is in such a calm serene state. Then just that one intention. You don’t have any desire, even someone else has a desire that will work out. (guruji laughs) Do you see what I’m saying? The mechanics. I told Dr. B don’t worry, what is big thing about it? So what, its nothing great. What’s a big thing, one more desire fulfilled, so what. Its not a big deal. (guruji laughs) and it didn’t take 3 years for me to come in just happened in half a day. Do you see what I’m saying. Look at the science behind thought, that’s why if you think someone is bad, someone is hopeless, hopeless, hopeless. When you think like that all the time, even though they may be hopeless they’ll surely become hopeless. You have to from your side, put that positive sankalpa. Positive thought, it’ll work, things will happen. You know whenever we start a project, we don’t first collect money and then start a project. (guruji laughs) We do the other way around, unlike any corporation in the world who first budget and then start a program. In Art of Living we just start a program and then the money comes. People cannot understand how this could work. Do you see what I’m saying? You need to believe in yourself much more than you think you are. Have belief, faith in yourself. Your dreams, your ideas, your thoughts can find manifestation. At the right time, if it is right. Ya? That doesn’t mean you should be simply airy fairy, simply dreaming the whole day. No do anything physical and concrete. You have to have that balance in life. A dance can happen when there is balance between the dreams and practicality. Correct? Ok? (Guruji starts singing, everybody laughs and joins)

IN ADORATION OF TIME by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

IN ADORATION OF TIME by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
When there is problem in life, what helps us to carry us through the problem?
First is knowing everything is going to change. Our body is changing, this is temporary. Mind changes, emotion changes, thought changes. Everything in the world is changing. People change, their emotions change, your feeling good or bad changes. So everything is changing. Knowing this what happens? You gain the strength to move through. You don’t worry, you just walk ahead. Hmmm? You kick the problem by your left food. (laughs) And keep your smile you know. Nothing! Its going to change, ok move on. Correct? Everything is changing. If there’s a problem we’re not going to be stuck with the problem for all our life.

You know some people they come to your with a problem, you council them, council them. Till they’re not convinced, they go with the same thing right? You might have had this experience in your home, or with your friends. You tell them, give them sense, but they’re not really listening. They go wah wah wah wah. Same thing, what? They’re not living the knowledge, they’re not in the knowledge. Correct? So make them aware. See everything changes. Ya?

Then next. If they are not listening. They’re not… you need certain intelligence to see. No one else can make you see that you have see it yourself. Everything is changing. So many people shouting at the air, their voice telling everything is changing cannot make you feel that but if you’re intellect is sharp, it will understand ‘oh everything is changing’. So everything is changing has to come from within you. Your and own understanding. Are you getting what I’m saying?

Suppose you don’t get it, the second option is saying ‘nothing is going to change’. This somebody else can tell you. (laughs) When someone tells you its not going to change, its going to be that way. A husband complains to wife that you are very slow, you are not doing what I want you to do (and/or vice versa). And if the wife says its not going to change I’m going to be like this for all the time. (Guruji laughs) Husband has no chance but to accept. See if you say your mother-in-law is all the time nagging, she’s already old she’s not going to change! (laughs) You better accept her. Rather than complain all your life about your mother-in-law. Or your mother, if your mother is all the time complaining to you. Don’t expect a miracle to happen. (laughter) She’s already 65 or 85 and you go home one day, you expect her to change? If it changes well and good but ??? chances, you have to accept it the way? It is. If you see the way the children are crying and they are peeing all over the place and doing all that thing. (laughter) Children are not going to… that’s all they will be. Any kid in the world, they will pee on you. (Guruji laughs, mad laughter) Its not going to change! That’s why they are babies. If you expect a baby to behave like an adult, its not going to happen, mind you. Its not going to change.

So when someone else tells you its not going to change. That’s how its going to be. Then your mind going wah wah wah wah will shut up! (crazy laughter) Will say well, that’s how it is. You know when people have nothing to complain they start complaining about the weather. (laughter) Oh its so cold, oh its so hot, its so this much, oh so much snow. Its not going to change. Its going to snow, its going to snow here in the winter. That’s it, period. Why you are complaining? Its useless to complain. It so hot in Spain in the summer. Its going to be that way. For millenniums to come. Its going to be hot. Its going to be cold here, that’s it, period. So nothing is going to change. Either see everything is changing and accept and some other things see its not going to change and accept.

If neither of this works, the third is… come on! Roar like a lion! Wake up and say ‘HHHMMMMMMRRRRR’. I’m today, come what may I’m going to roar like a lion. So the third option you roar like a lion, that’s finished. This we did… and still if anything is left. That comes with prayer. My divine, my dear, you take this. This is my problem, I cant solve it, you solve, you better do it for me. Give it to anybody whom you love or anyone whom you trust or anything. Weather God or whatever Buddha, Allah, Jesus. You give it away. Then also you become relaxed.

So the ancient rishis said the four ways. Viveka – by discrimination by knowledge. Smriti – by remembering, knowing everything is changing. Shradha – by faith. Hmmm? Veerya – Valour or invoking the valour in you. Or through Samadhi, through meditation. Surrender, surrender and Samadhi. So these things, these options are open, 5 options. Including Samadhi… 5 options. Samadhi means meditation. And deep meditation. Where is the problem? (laughs)

When you just wake up and see what time is doing. Time is like the huge tidal wave and just coming and finishing off everything. Time does not leave anything untouched, anything left over. Time swallows everything. You went to school, you went to college, you did this, you did that, you fell in love, fell out of love, you broke somebody’s heart, you got your heart broken… everything happened. Then what happened? What happened with them all? The time came and just swept them all out. You don’t even find any trace, all the trace you find is only in your mind. Some memories, and its foolish to hang on to memories.

Memories of pleasant things create craving in you. When you have had some pleasure/enjoyment, those memories cling in your body and they create such a craving in you and that craving stops you from enjoying life, the moment. This is what is called sangadosha. The, how do you translate that into English, let me see. Its called sangadosha, means a dosha or a defect that has caught on you by your association. You are associating yourself with some thing for some time and after that, that sangadosha comes up on you and then that makes you miserable. And how to get over this, only way is becoming hollow and? Empty. And that’s what we will be doing tomorrow… hollow and empty (meditation). So realizing this, you see, the time sweeps under its, under it the whole/every event. Every event pleasant or unpleasant is swept away by the time. And you catch up with the time. Go with the time, that is joy. When you go against the time that is when you become miserable.

This is very simple, that’s why when you are happy you don’t feel the time you feel time pass away like that. When you are miserable you feel the time is endless, it is not passing at all. The mind/time are so interconnected. So it is in the time that the world dissolves, in the time new world appears. New world appears if you’re hanging on to the old, the past all the time, the new never comes up. You never see the new. Never enjoy the new. So that time you know, there is an old proverb, old couplet in Sanskrit says… I adore the time, kalay tasmai namah (spelling). Ancient people said, this time is incredible, I adore the time. Have you ever heard someone really praising the time? Worshipping the time? And say I adore the time, coz it just sweeps away all the past.

The pleasant memories make you miserable by creating craving in you. Unpleasant memories make you miserable by creating fear and paranoia in you. Your paranoia is because of the unpleasant memories. And the pleasant memories make you sad and miserable in the present moment. Unpleasant memories doesn’t make you sad. (Guruji laughs) It is the pleasant memories that make you sad. So you have to get out of the clutches of memory. Its good to have memory, memory is needed. But not get caught up in the memory. That is no a healthy sign of the mind. That’s not the sign of a healthy mind. And that is why the pranayama and the meditation makes such a difference. Pranayama, meditation brings so much energy in you, just pushes you up from the debris of the time, of the memory. Debris of the mind is buried in the debris of the memory. That’s the age, that’s when it starts aging, that’s when it become old. You look so old you know why? Coz you are loaded with memories. Your mind is buried under memories. When you resurrect from these debris with a smile, with a childlike innocence. That’s when life has spring back to action. Springing back into action. And that is what is enlightenment.

Enlightenment is where, the flame or fire of your life can never be put off or put down by anybody, any situation, anything outside. Move on with that and that’s the highest goal. If at all there is one goal in human life, that is this goal. To attain a state of consciousness wherein you resurrect from your debris. The debris of memories. Hmmm? Refuse to be buried under the memories or pleasant or unpleasant. Because that pinches your stomach, pinches your heart, pinches your head, and then you cry to the world oh I feel bad, I feel… Who cares? (laughter) The world does not care how you feel, the world only ask you, what have you done to me? The world is not bothered about your feeling at all. The world demands from you, what have you done? This earth says I feed you, I made you stay here, I give you shelter, I give. What have you done/given back to me? Garbage only? (Guruji laughs) Or something different. The earth, the air, the world in general ask from you, asks what you are doing not how you are feeling. So don’t be football of your own feelings. Ya? Bundle them up all and throw it in the Atlantic ocean (laughs). Bundle all your feelings, throw them.

People say follow your feelings, I would not recommend you… say don’t follow your feelings. Follow your wisdom. What is such a big deal about your feelings? One day you feel good, next day you feel bad about the same thing. You don’t need to different excuse to feel good and bad. With any one particular thing you’ll feel good and then next day you’ll feel bad about it. And next day you feel good again, then again bad. Never follow your feelings. Feelings are unstable. Hmmm? Feelings are like moving clouds, wisdom is a solid rock. That is staying for millennium. Stand on the rock not on the clouds. Got it? Enjoy the clouds when they come, but they pass away. When your foot is firm on wisdom. As humans you all have the feelings, they come and go. But not get really drowned in it. Don’t be drowned in these feelings. Wake up and move ahead in life, see what you want to do. Your commitment, you know when you are busy, when you have strong commitments in your life you don’t care about your feelings. When there is direction, you keep moving.

That is what is called the ‘seva warriors’. The team of warriors who do service in the society. They just don’t mind, keep working. See 80 thousand people died in the tsunami, today’s news in the television is 80 thousand people. More than 80 thousand people. If people are sitting and standing in front of everybody and crying oh my dear you left me you left me, they would never be able to do any work. So how people deal with them, those workers, social workers were doing there. They just go, what is needed they agree to do all that work. They gain that inner strength. Always remember, anyone who has any problem, along with the problem comes the strength to solve the problem. That’s why if the problem is a dog which comes behind you, the solution is its tail. The dog’s tail is its solution. So if you don’t see the solution you have to wait for a while the dog is going to wag its tail. (Guruji laughs, crowd laughs) A solution is going to appear for every problem. Wait till the dog wags its tail. So that courage, courage to move through the feelings, you know, courage to wake up and keep ones enthusiasm. Taking everything in life as a challenge not a problem, is what is wisdom. Hmmm? And when you are stable and strong, you will be great use to people and the society.

If you yourself is like a beaten up dog and always crying and wailing and veining and worrying about how you feel today, how you feel tomorrow… you’re not a strong pillar, you are not a strong source of strength and solace to people around you, isn’t it so? What d’you say? Huh? (Crowd goes YES). Don’t feel shy to raise your hand raise your hand. (laughter) Let me see. You be a source of strength, I want every one of you be a lighthouse in this world where there is so much darkness. (Applause) And we’re creating light bulbs. I want every one of you to be a fountain of joy. Fountain of joy you know. That is something that is so beautiful. And courage and valour… people with courage and valour. Hmmm?

There are many many very interesting stories. I think someone should document. I remember there was an earthquake in India 2002 perhaps 2001, in Gujarat. And a lady had lost everything. Old lady, lady of about 70’s. So when our volunteers were working, she comes and opens up her little pocket and gives a 10 rupee note. 10 rupees equivalent to what… 20 cents. Little pocket, she opens up and gives, please keep this as my contribution. Our workers said, no we have come here to give, that lady said, I lost everything please don’t take away my dharma also. She says its my heart, my charity is the only thing I hold onto please don’t take away even this, I want to do at least this charity, everything else is gone. You know our volunteer was so shocked so surprised. They said we have come to give, she said no I want to contribute. This is my dharma I have to give. Giving is my nature, I shouldn’t, please don’t take away even this from me. You take it. I will take, when I need I will take also. But when I’m giving please take from me.

GOOD AND EVIL by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (MONTREAL CANADA AUGUST 2004)

GOOD AND EVIL by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (MONTREAL CANADA AUGUST 2004)
Dearest Guruji. After so many years on the path I’m finally starting to see how the divine cares for me. And that I am protected. For those with strong faith on/and a spiritual path, this appears to be so. However, what about victims of terrorism, abuse, slavery, starvation and tortures. They do not appear to be safe and protected. So is it that divine protection does not extend to all people on earth? Only those with a good fortune who do have faith? Please comment.

You do not know the mind of divine. You cannot fathom it. You cannot fathom all the mysteries of the world, you can only wonder about it. If you just stay with this question. Why the problem, why the problem. I don’t know when you will get an answer for it. Instead you should think what I can do? What I can do to help this problem. Suppose, imagine in this world there is no misery at all. Do you know one thing, all the good qualities will also disappear. I’m sure this is a tough truth to accept. You may not like to accept it because it is not too pleasant. For good qualities to exist, for compassion to exists, service to be there, kindness to be there… its opposite is essential in the world. Suppose there is no suffering, on who will you be compassionate? You will be compassionate on one who is very happy? What will happen to the quality of compassion? How will you even know compassion? That’s why the first principle of Art of Living… Opposite values are complimentary! The biggest gift to the world of theology. World of philosophy. From Art of Living is this first principle, Opposite values are complimentary. People do not know. They just are grouping in darkness. Not knowing opposite values are complimentary. They think everything is opposing. There is a fight always between good and evil. You know good and evil are friends also. In Indian mythology this comes. That both good and evil decided to play a drama, so they both came to the earth, one became a hero the other became a villain. And of course the victory is always to the hero. And then the hero thanks the villain for making him victorious, and the villain thanks the hero saying I’m so happy to be defeated at your hand and if find salvation because you defeated me. The good defeated.

This is something that is startling, it’s the story between Ram and Ravana. And Ravana the wicked was killed and the last breath of his life he says ‘I’m happy to be killed by you’. Because by that I only think of you, I attain you. What is called poison is sometimes a life saving drug. In fact if you looking at all the life saving drugs, its written poison. (laughter) And vitamins if you consume more than certain limit, that can kill you too. Opposite values are complimentary. This is a very profound knowledge. World over in theology people are struggling to place evil. Where to place evil? If God is omnipresent, omniscient… where is this place for evil to exist? If evil exist other than God, then God loses his qualification of omnipresence, number one. He loses the qualification of omnipotent, if he’s so potent why did he allow the evil to exist? And why does he warn people against the evil, number one. And then you have many stings of questions like that. Why wont God take care of the evil before it destroys everybody? Why wont God get so angry when he’s omniscient, when he knows everything, every step that is going to happen. Not a blade of grass will move without his will. Then what happens to this evil, where do you place the evil? It’s in a big mess I tell you. (laughter)

For centuries volumes have been written, people have argued back and forth. How to even count for the existence of evil. At the same time accept the omnipresence and omnipotence of God. Do you see what I’m saying? I mean we need not go into the theological discussion. Good and evil are just relative. God is absolute. They are two different fields. The ancient rishis explained in a beautiful manner. They said… the whole building, everything here is made up of wood. This is one level of truth. Yes, everything here is wood. That’s true. But the table is not the chair and chair is not the door. You can’t sit on the door. Nor put the chair for a door. Yes here everything is wood, on that level. Like atoms. Everything is atom. It is same atom which is in chocolates, same atom which is in carbon. In charcoal, you can’t gulp the charcoal. Same atom in a diamond as it is in a charcoal. Same even molecules. You can’t gulp a diamond. Or hang a charcoal in your ears. On one level there is only oneness, God comes from that level. Of everything is made up of one thing. Omnipotence. And in that there are diversities. Though it is the same wood, still it is different. One is cedar and another is sandalwood another is something else, teak wood. There is differences. And this is what is missing. There are big theological colleges. I tell you, if you just sit with them, the confusion they are in. It’s so obvious. This has robbed the smile from their faces. I’ve attended many conferences, I’ve yet to see a really childlike smiling, FREE theologian or intellectual. I think some of you should get into those colleges (guruji laughs) and bring in more life. More joy. Ya, we have to bring in that. Our education will have to make us more happier. Not so serious and bogged down.

Guruji, is it ok for us to have feverishness for the divine?
When the water in impure you put the alum. The alum removes the impurities and dissolves itself. So like that, the feverishness for truth, for divinity, for good company, can be the last feverishness. So it can replace the other ones, otherwise your mind will definitely clog onto some other feverishness. Please please take my chattering mind, I don’t want anymore mind. It’s talking too much. And it’s going all over the places. Love and gratitude. Wake up and see, where does the mind go, what does it want. We begin like that, what is that I want? First thing. Write it down whatever it may be. I want this relationship, I want this money, I want this fame, I want this, I want this. Write them down. Mind becomes so much more clearer. Its when you don’t know what you really want or long for. That’s when the mind is all over the place. And when you do not know how to achieve it, its even more trouble. And just know that even after achieving all that, you’ll be in the square one and the same place where you are. Really no use.

HMMMM? Look at all those people who have so much money. Are they happy? Look at those people who have so much fame, are they happy? Do you find satisfying or uplifting smile in those faces? Do you find them contented? No. And that peace, contentment, serenity is not in them. You look at your face into them mirror, you have much more joy and serenity than the so-called successful people in the world. Isn’t it? Hmmm, they are in a rat race. All the big industrialist, they are so miserable, they are in such a rat race, you know. Such showing off. You have how much wealth, I have so much wealth, I will show off, you show off. And then see where they end up. They’re like, really, you know, foolish kids. Really, their talks are foolish. So stupid. Their conversations are unworthy of even listening. So childish. Have no context for life. Don’t see life in context with the whole. With the vastness. With the vastness of time and space. Hmmm? Do you want to be like them? (laughter). Yeah, I tell you money is needed. No doubt. Work for money, I’m not saying just sit and daydream. Oh one day God will open the sky and pour money on my head. An angel will come on a carpet with a bowl full of gold and will give you. It’s not going to happen. Don’t sit and daydream. Don’t buy lottery ticket and look at your astrological chart. When is good luck going to come to you. It’s not going to come to you. There’s an old proverb in Sanskrit which says… tinga-linga-ling-school-bell-ring. (Paras note: Might have spelt it wrong hehehe) One who puts his effort and one who is courageous, to him the wealth will come, the goddess of wealth will come. You need to be courageous, brave, entrepreneurial and then effort. Just being courageous, not enough. One who puts the effort. So work hard, work intelligently. Money is needed but money is not all that, that is. Life is much more than that. Life is much more.

You know when the president of world bank met with me, he asked me, ‘Your holiness, please tell me the secret of your success. In the world bank we initiate so many social projects, we hardly get any success. How come your projects are successful with such a small amount of money? Less than a million dollars you’ve achieved so much result, so much has been accomplished. How is that possible?’ I told him it’s not just the money that works. Not money alone that works. Something more. It’s our volunteer’s motivation. Said, love and dedication to do work that makes you accomplish your work. What you cannot achieve at 10 million dollars, just over less than a million dollar could do that. The governments are astonished, how 21 thousand villages have been adopted. So much work happened. Hundreds of medical camps happened. Thousands of trees were planted. You must have seen all those details. How much seva happened in one years time. Then he called all his staff and said we should all have a permanent relationship with Art of Living. (applause) Said this meeting should not end here. Said we should have continuous programs happening. Lot of people are learning Art of Living here. Don’t clog yourself only to money. Life is worth much more huh?

You say come back to awareness of your body and environment at the end of meditation. I never lose awareness of my body or the environment. (laughter) Am I doing something wrong?
You know in meditation if you’re too conscious, oh what’s happening now, what’s happening, where is my mind going, am I here, am I there. In fact too attentive, too alert… meditation is not going to happen. You’re not going to relax. Meditation is not just doing that you know. Too conscious, too alert, too watchful every moment, what’s happening… no. Meditation is not concentration. Don’t concentrate on meditation. It is just letting go, relax. Hmmm? Its like when you sleep you lose the awareness of the body. In meditation, similar. You don’t know where you are but you know you are. I’m not just that. Many different type such experiences might happen. So don’t look for experiences. That becomes an obstacle for you. If you sit and… where is my experience, where is my experience. It’s not going to happen.

Dearest Guruji, I’m experiencing intense tidal waves of cravings. I don’t know how to handle them. What do we do when these cravings arise? How do we resist giving into bad habits and cravings?
A little cleansing and fasting would help you. Couple of days of just fast and juice or raw food or undergo some cleanse.

Dearest Guruji, what is the final balance between discipline, love and scolding? Sometimes I’m too soft or too hard on my loved ones. How do we teach them the right lessons with love and fairness?
How do you know you are too hard or too soft. What is your standard of measuring that. Perhaps they need that hard or that strong stance. See when you judge yourself that you’re too hard too soft, that becomes a problem. You don’t feel good about yourself. When you don’t feel good about yourself, you’ll never make others feel good. If you start accepting the way you are, you will start accepting the others the way they are also. Ya? Something to think about.

Dearest Beloved Guruji, I would like to ask you about being too sensitive. What can I do? Is this something good or not? With much love.
Who said you are too sensitive? Forget about it. Come on wake up. (Guruji laughs). When you brand yourself too sensitive. Then you prepare to get hurt. When you get hurt, then you pity yourself. See I’m too sensitive, I’m no good, I get hurt. You think you get hurt, you get even more hurt. Wake up the valour in you, come on nothing can hurt me!

What is the meaning of Natraj crushing the human body under his feet?
Natraj is the dancing Shiva. Under his feet there is a demon. This is a symbol. Demon is call apasmara. Means utter inertia. Natraja is total consciousness. The consciousness which is full of vibrance and dance. And that steps on the apasmara. Means the inertia. That means the opposite values are co-existing. Under the feet of the dance is the inertia. The dullness. That gives the whole picture of wholeness. In the wholeness, dullness is also part of it. Not just the waking… sleep is also part of it. Not just the dance, the lethargy is also part of it. To give you the full image of the wholeness. They put the opposites. One is the beautiful… standing on the ugly.

Dear Guruji, why do I crave some much for the attention and approval of others? How can I overcome this?
This is good, when you start getting more into knowledge listen to Ashtavakra. Go again and again and again. Delve more into knowledge. And understand everything is changing in the world. What is others opinion about you, so what, someone appreciates you today. How much time will it take for them to take back their appreciation. If they appreciate you, how sure are you that they are not jealous of you? And tomorrow if they blame you, what are you going to do? Let them blame. Don’t make your life football of their opinion. You know this you will understand the more you grow into knowledge huh?

With all due respect I have read of you being a living saint. What does that mean to you and how do you keep your ego out of it? Having people revere you is odd, isn’t it? Or did you always know that you had a gift to inspire others?
You know if someone reveres you, so what? Whom are you revering? When someone appreciates a painting, they’re appreciating the painter. When someone praises you, why you shrink? Why you feel uncomfortable? You should feel absolutely comfortable. And when someone blames you, then also you feel comfortable. If you are shy for compliments, you will be devastated when insults are hurled at you. In the Gita, the first thing Krishna tells Arjuna, he says ‘be equanimous’. Even if someone praises, doesn’t matter, so what. And someone blames you, doesn’t matter, so what. Nothing should touch you. People’s words, their actions, their reactions, their adorations or their blames just blow with the winds. You are there, fully centred, satisfied, unshaken. That is the whole knowledge. There is a saint in each one of you. Its wrong to think that sainthood is bestowed on somebody after they have died, and if they show some miracle here and there. Is a completely wrong principle/policy. Saint means the simplicity. Saint word comes from the Sanskrit root Sattva. Sattva means one is clear, harmonious, pure, unruffled… at home. You can be at home! You can be unruffled. And that seed of sainthood, I feel, is in every human being. Hmmm? It’s not a great deal about it. So just don’t worry. Just be like a child. I say I’m a child who refuse to grow up. Every baby is a yogi. Born yogi. And then they lose that yoga as they grow older, they lose that innocence.

Have you seen children? They do all the yoga asanas. When they are born, their legs are up in the air, they don’t sleep flat like you. They do the boat pose. (laughter) Their head is up, their legs are up. And then they try to catch hold of their toes. And then they do cycling. And then they go on the tummy. And then they do cobra pose, bojang asan (spelling). And then little while there, they do tricun asan, they crawl and one hand they lift, turn back and see, what’s happening behind them. They fall on the cheek, again they get up. If they fall by themselves nobody there they don’t cry. But if they see someone watching them then they start crying. (laughter) When they fall by themselves they wake up and they go happily. And they alternate their hands, they turn on this side and lift their hand and look. Haven’t you seen, just watch a baby. From the time it’s born to the age of 3 they do almost all the asanas. They put all the mudras (hand reflexology kinda thing). They suck the thumb, they sleep with chin mudra, then chinmaya mudra. All that they do. That’s why yoga is so natural. Its observing animals, observing human beings, observing different species, that which was conceived is yoga. It helps the growth of the mind, body.

But people say oh yoga is all devilish, satanic. You shouldn’t do yoga. It’s so unfortunate. You know in Europe, one in every third child, sometime or other goes to psychiatrist. In Washington DC 33% of youth go to prison. It’s alarming, they have committed some or other crime at some time. In such situation, these students, these kids they all need to be taught yoga. To balance their body, mind. The president of Croatia found the value of yoga, he found how his family been saved from disasters, difficulties. So he introduced yoga, immediately the church opposed oh this is all satanic. Made a big protest, withdraw yoga from the education system. It’s so unfortunate. We are not in the middle ages where all the scientists were prosecuted. It’s a free world. We should of course protest against alcohol, drugs, gambling, all these sort of things which destroy human life. Not which promotes human evolution. Wherever it comes from East or West doesn’t matter. What is needed is the welfare of mankind. We should see everyone being happy. And that is real religiosity, isn’t it? That’s unfortunate if people brand yoga as from the Satan. We all need to educate those people. Call them, have dialogue with the fanatic/fundamentalists. Educate them, hey come on, all it is is a simple exercise which uplifts your body, mind and spirit. Doesn’t matter whatever you believe. You can believe in 7th heaven, you can believe in 14th heaven, 3rd heaven. Doesn’t matter. Whatever is your belief system, but do something practical to uplift your spirit. Isn’t it necessary? That broadmindedness is what we need to bring into people.

Guruji I love you a lot, do you love me?
My dear I have no choice (guruji and everybody laugh). I cant but love you and you cant but love me. Neither you have a choice, nor do I have a choice. I am the way I am and you I tell you have no choice, you try your best not to love. (laughs and applause) See how you will get into love. Hmmm? I think everyone should play the role of a guru, at least for couple of people if not everybody. Role of guru is to be in unconditional love, support someone for their good, without expecting anything in return, not even a thank you note. That role everyone should play for as many people as possible that’s good. Play the role of a guru in your lives. Not because they are related to you, they are good friend or yours, they did favour to you, you do a favour to somebody. Just unconditionally loving, and wishing for their growth. Wishing for their blossoming. Working towards the happiness of all mankind. Then that guru principle will blossom in you, that song you know ajo anantaya, it’s so beautiful. Ajo means the guru principle is never born, guru is never born and is infinite consciousness. And ever pure. Nidhyaya shuddhaya it’s always there, eternal and pure. And in the form of bliss, dwelling in every heart. Invoking that principle and becoming one with that principle there. When you keep doing service, going deep in meditation. Sachidananda the pure consciousness you’re vibrating throbbing consciousness, everything, every cell of you, body is vibrant with that energy. Consciousness, nobody can deplete that energy. Infinite energy, you are in connection with the infinite energy. Your cells are throbbing with joy. Radiating energy and peace and love to the whole world. That is the real essence of guru principle, soaking in guru principle. Hmmm? Ok?

Why do I have health problem, is it because of bad karma? Please explain.
Health problem happens for various reasons. One is when you violate the laws of nature. If you have the wrong food, wrong habits. Violated laws of nature, health problems come. Second of course, due to some past impressions, karmas, all that is there. But you need to have confidence mind over the body. Our mind can make a difference. Definitely.
