Osho – The Art of Living 7
A western yogi says that problems you’re trying to go through that are put up with clear up in the process of life itself. (Question about if that is opposite to meditation) He’s right but profundities can be misunderstood. Heard by an ignorant person it can be dangerous. Joined by our stupidity, a profundity can be great fun. It’s true the problems you put up with will clear up. But then is meditation compatible with it or not… this is where you stupidity comes in. Meditation is part of life, you have to pass through that too. You have come to meditation because something in you needed it otherwise why should you need it. The world can do it but only you’ve come to me. Something in you desires deeply for it. Sex and food only is not life, so is meditation. Yoga is part of life, one has to pass through it, you can’t escape it. What you have not fulfilled will always remain a hangover on you. You’ll feel something remains incomplete.

Be courageous. Wherever you inner life leads you… GO. Even if it leads you astray… it’s also part of life. Nobody can always be right. Those that try are absolute failures. If life leads you astray … go happily. The energy that leads you astray will bring you back. (Paras note: My philosophy man!) In the end, one finds that everything fits together. Good and bad, right and wrong you did. In the end you’ll find life is really wonderful, it fits. And if you look backwards you’d not like to change anything because if you change a part you’ll change everything. This attitude… whatever happens is part of your destiny. If you have to err, err totally. If you have to fall, fall like a drunkard, don’t resist because then you miss. If you feel hell around you, feel it as part of your destiny for growth. I know when passing hell it’s difficult but growth is difficult. When you pass a problem you want to escape but that way you’ll miss something that was gonna become a part of the final whole, final harmony. Life unconditionally. If you inner voice says meditate then meditate. Be a drunkard then be a drunkard. (Paras note: YES!) But be total.

Only through totality one transcends because only through that you know what you’re doing. People don’t want anger any more and they have suffered much for it and repent again and again try not to be angry. But after few hours they have forgotten. What to do? Don’t repent, begin from there. At least that much you can do… and don’t feel sorry for it. Accept that you are a man with an angry nature, that repentance is not allowing you to be totally angry. That part which remains inside becomes poisonous. Be angry and let it be such that you can say I am anger, it will be come a hell fire. Great suffering but it has to be shown. Once you’re in the hell fire you become so alert about it, that there is no need to decide against it. The very experience has decided it, you never go near it. Not that you go to the church and confess and repent.

People start enjoying that too. I heard that a woman came to church a 7th time to confess the same sin, even the father was surprised. She only cheated on her husband only once but she says she loves to talk about it. People start indulging in their confessions. St. Augustine’s book Confessions seems and exaggeration. He’s indulging in it, the very idea of counting too many sins seems to be appealing. Gandhi book does the same. It seems he’s enjoying. There are people who exaggerate their sins so they can be great saints. They were so great sinners and now they’ve become great saints. Only a great sinner be a great saint. Small sinners aint got enough material. I’ve read many autobiographies and I’ve come to the conclusion that they are the greatest fiction. Either one goes on praising themselves or condemning themselves but both are untrue. Because in both way they become extraordinary.

Somebody asked Rinji (spelling) what they do as practice. He said when I feel hungry I eat and when I feel sleepy I go to sleep. How can you make an autobiography of it? After his death his disciple was at a talk and was asked by a jealous person. You keep talking about your master, but the real master is mine, he can do miracles (talks about miracle) and asks what miracle can his master perform. So the disciple said he knew only one miracle that he used to do everyday, every minute. When he felt hungry he ate and when he felt sleepy he slept. (Paras note: I don’t know if I love these talks coz it makes me feel I was right the whole time or coz he’s saying what I want to hear.) It’s a very profound phenomena. It means to be natural completely. When you’re hungry you don’t eat because a 1000 things have to be done. When you don’t feel hungry you eat. When you feel sleepy you avoid because there is a dance or movie. In the movie you’re sleepy. Then you have to take tranquillisers. To be unnatural has become our natural life.

Of course to be natural is the greatest miracle. Just to delight in eating, sleeping, drinking, breeze that passes you. Then life becomes a celebration. Live life, in it’s totality, in all it’s dimensions. Indulge in every dimension, indulge totally. You’ll find everything will help, even the wife or children or business that made you unhappy, destroyed your health and made you broke. Out of this chaos arises a harmony. I’m not saying that everyone reaches this harmony, one can reach or miss. The ones who miss are the ones that try too hard to reach it. If you don’t bother much to attain it and simply live moment to moment you’ll get it. That crescendo is a moment to moment, so enjoy wherever you are. Be grateful with whatever you have, feel deep gratitude, let that be your only prayer. Go totally.

Even if to a prostitute, go totally. I know even your wife you’ve not gone totally. Even if you drink wine drink it totally. I know you’ve not even drunk water totally. Life lived incomplete can not become a crescendo. Life lived incomplete cannot create a harmony, you’ll die a chaos. Thats why you’ll die afraid of death. You tremble because life harmony has not been achieved and death has come. You’re really incomplete yet, unborn and a death has come. One who has lived his life and death always accepts death beautifully because there is nothing left to be done. He’s moved in all the directions now there is nothing else. 5000 of flowers have to be visited for one spoon of honey. For one pound 1000 miles have to be travelled for it. Remember wherever you are, be there totally otherwise you’ll visit the flower but come back without the honey. That is the only misery and it happens 99%.

You’re in such a hurry. Think of a bee in such a hurry that she does not touch a flower because she has to go to another flower. Incomplete, by the time she goes to another flower… another. After a million flowers she comes back incomplete. When you visit a flower visit it 100% as totally as possible. Then you accumulate life’s honey. Then when you die you die blissfully. If you have lived in totality, in awareness… at the moment of death you can bless all your friends and enemies. Without your enemies you could not have been able to reach this crescendo. This phenomenon that is life. (Paras note: So far my favourite knowledge sheet!)
