THE COSMIC CONNECTION – PLANET, STARS AND LIFE by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (August 6th 1996 – Santa Monica, California)

THE COSMIC CONNECTION – PLANET, STARS AND LIFE by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (August 6th 1996 – Santa Monica, California)
Guruji chants a lil some something… means this knowledge is deep so find some quiet time, your space and let your self absorb it.

Cosmic connection is an illusion. (laughter) Connection can happen between to, when there is only one, what you connect? (laughter) The entire universe is one, is one organism. This is the ultimate truth. But yet, on another level, there is diversity, there is difference. And there is a connection in the sense, a definite result or effect is produced. With certain definite interactions. This is a second level of reality. Though not the ultimate. The relative reality, the second level of reality is not the ultimate, is not final but there is always possibilities open. Creation is made up of varieties. Life is also made up of definite varieties, of elements, of substances or energies. You cannot understand the cosmos if you leave out life. And if you understand life then you understand cosmos better. Life is part of the cosmos but plays a very vital role. In this universe every substance affects everything else. Affects and affected by everything else. To what degree, to what extent? Varies. That has to be seen. Everything affects everything else, this is determined, but to what degree to what extent. Is variable. Do you see what I’m saying? The entire cosmos is one unit. Now in this there are two aspects. One is the planets or space or the energies. The second is time. The ancient rishis have said the whole universe is a combination of time and space. From the microcosm to the macrocosm there is a link there is a connection. A connectedness. So also with the time. And it is so fascinating that this unit of time is also determined and measured.

Said 4.32 million years make one kalpa. One unit. And several such kalpas make one mannmantra. In this one unit of kalpa, mannmantras come. This mannmantra, several yugas are there. Called the golden age, which is calculated 1.8. something million years. And the silver age, which is 1.3 and some million years. And then the copper age which is 0.8 million years and the iron age or the dark age is only 0.430 million years. Um point…? Ya! 400 and something thousand years. Now together this cycle of 4. some million years. 4.320 million years make one mannmantra. Several such mannmantras make one kalpa, and several such kalpas make one eighth of the day of Braman. And thousand years of Braman is one eighth of the day of Vishnu. And one thousand Vishnu years is one eighth day of a Shiva. Shiva time. (laughter) Now see the magnitude of times. Billions of light-years, it flows in to light-years. This calculation of macrocosmic time has been done thousands of years ago. And this comes down to the exact calculation of today’s astronomy. Like 365 days 15 ghatis and 36 vighatis make one year. 15 ghatis and 38 vighatis are just quarter day. That’s just 365 and one quarter day. That’s the time of the year. Now to that precision of time, ghatis, vighatis, seconds, have been calculated in the vedic astrology.

This knowledge of astrology has got 3 aspects. One is the astronomical calculation, the second is the influence they have on each other. Planets are not merely planets somewhere sitting there, planets are the vibrations that cut across the cosmos. The cosmic ray, huh, say the cosmic rays. And its interesting, each of these cosmic ray has a definite particular effect on certain substances. Certain stones, like gem stones, certain stones for particular planets. And particular types of food also like grains. (Paras note: If you’re interested in that check out Steve Wonders – Seeds a Star and google Po Tolo… you’ll be amazed!) Colours, even birds and animals, they carry most of these particular type of vibration in them. Do you see what I’m saying? Like moon, moons vibration is carried in the moonstone. Hmmm? Also on the colour, cream or white. And a particular type of bird called Chakota, don’t know what you say that bird here. This particular species of bird is very much linked with the vibration of the moon. The water. Water element.

5 Elements of which our creation is made up of is also connected to the 9 planets. Are you all connected to what I’m saying now? (laughter) Hmmm? The 5 elements are earth, water, air, fire and ether. (Paras note: For Captain Planet its earth, fire, wind, water and heart… by your powers combined… I am Captain Planet… GO PLANET!) On one level there is no different, it is all one thing, one energy but when you come to another level of reality there is multiplicity, there is division, there is differences. And all connections are from this level of existence, and life is not linear it is multidimensional. Time is not liner, time is a circle, space is not linear, spaces is connected, is circle.

So the astrology says one is the impact effect and the second most interesting thing is called upaya. Means the remedial measures. See when everything can influence everything else, you’re also part of the something. So you can also in turn influence everything else in the universe. (laughter) You wonder how come me, this small being here, which is insignificant in this creation can influence something so big. Its hard to believe but I tell you, you can. Just see how a tiny atom when it explodes, destroys cities for years to come. Most invisible tiny part of an atom when they are exploded, separated. An atomic explosion can cause such a big havoc. Such a big impact, for years together. The radiation goes for years together. Thousands of years. You think you are less powerful than an atom which is matter? I tell you, you are much more powerful. Your consciousness is so much more powerful. Is so much more subtler than an atom. Just like an atomic explosion when something in you opens up you become really a nobody. Or you become everybody part of everybody. The full blossoming in you happens, you affect your entire environment. The place, you know. The circumstance, situations. And its effect, the karma.

Karma is nothing but impressions of action or ideas on the level of consciousness. And it is the consciousness which is the driving force behind all actions. Isn’t it? Now you want to raise your hand, first the idea comes in the mind, raise your hand. Or an intention arises, raise your hand. An intention is so powerful that it carries your whole body or system wherever you want it. Isn’t it? You sit and think I would like to go to New York and that one tiny thought that I want to go to New York propels your body to do so much action. 100-200 pounds of the body, it gets into the car, drives the car, goes to the airport, takes the ticket and sits in the plane. Look at the action, the amount of action that happens by a single thought, I want to go to New York. Isn’t it? Is this mind, consciousness not powerful? So much more powerful, I tell you, you’re much more powerful than all the stones, crystals and all things that we try to use to make ourselves more powerful. (laughter) You’re giving away the power to all those tiny little stones. (laughs) I mean you can decorate yourself with that, they do have some effect but I tell you, you have much more source, you have much more potentiality, potential within you. You’re much more potent than those stones.

That’s why its called mantras. The vibrations in the mind can affect the planet which are so far away or their influences on our system. You know the mythology says, Lord Shiva sits on top of all the planets. Shiva means the inner most core of the creation, the essence of creation, the transcendental aspect of life. The divine aspect of this creation. The divinity sits on top of all the planets, means what, it rules over all the planets. There’s another beautiful thing huh… your system is made up of body, breath, mind, intellect, memory and ego… and then self. All the influences or effect of the planets and stars are only up to the ego. So when you transcend ego, no planet can affect you.

There is a story of a young boy. Is called Markhandaya. His parents wished for a son. And they got this divine intuition, vision in which they were asked ok you have a choice. What type of son you want? You want a son who is so good and great and wise but short lived or you want a son who has a long life, 100 years but very wicked. (laughter) The parents were wise, said they chose, we want a son who is, never mind if he’s short lived, who is wise. So they got the son. They named him Markhandaya and the astrological chart said he lives only for 16 years. He became wise from the very first years. I mean from fourth year he was bring out so much wisdom in his speech and action. So the parents on the 16th year, they didn’t know what to do because he was going to die on the 16th year. But its said that he transcended the ego and meditated. And then the god of death who came to take him could not touch him coz he transcended time. So he was granted, the mythology says thousands of years of life so he lived for more. There is a point there, that the effect is only up to the limited idea of who I am. Once I tap into that source, which is the basis of the whole creation, then instead of you getting affected, you start effecting the situation and circumstances around you.

You know usually in the beads there is 108 beads, you know what is that, why 108? Why? There are 9 planets and 12 constellation when 9 planets go around 12 constellations they produce 108 major changes. And to counteract 108 major changes which can possibly affect us in a negative manner, they say ok chant Om Namah Shivay or some chant you know. Take the name of god. So every time you are in a divine energy you make an impact on the environment, on your karma. So the number 108 is thought to be very significant. There is one more bead on top of it 109th, it’s the guru bead, which is beyond the effect of it. (guruji laughs)

There is one very practical use of astrology. You know what that is? It shifts your idea that somebody is responsible for what is happening to you, onto planets. (laughter) Often when we are miserable, we think someone else is the cause for our misery. So you are stuck thinking so and so behaved or did this thing to me and how you can take revenge or challenge on them. This sets up emotion of action and reaction and continues chain of karmas. Isn’t it? Now when the astrologer tells you, see its because of your bad period that Saturn its retrograde. That’s why you got blamed for this thing which you haven’t done. Then you stop getting on XYZ. (laughter) You cant get angry on Saturn for being in retrograde. (laughter) What do you do? (laughter) If moon gets into triangle what do you do? (laughs) You cant shout at them. (laughs) Weather you believe it or not the practical benefit of astrology that you can see immediately is shifting your limited awareness of cause and effect. Whatever you think is the cause, if you see from a wider angle lens, that is also in effect. The whole creation is a series of effects. There’s no cause. (laughter) This understanding gives so much strength to you to transcend the chain of action and reaction. Do you see what I’m saying? In fact I shouldn’t even use the word action its all a chain of reactions. So first thing is to shift the responsibility that you put on someone else for what is happening to you, to a broader perspective. Your mind becomes mature, vision gets broadened, life becomes more stable. There are the benefits of, primary benefits of astrology.

Now there are some drawbacks also, what are the drawbacks? It can make you lazy and lethargic. Be irresponsible. If not properly understood. Coz people sit and wait, oh my period is no good for two years, let me wait. (laughs) Do you see what I’m saying? And there are some scientists who are pseudo-scientists or not full scientists who deny there is any connection between stars and what is happening here. I tell you their vision is very small. They have to go back to their physics classes and understand how everything in the universe is connected, linked. The purpose of astrology is to take you to the ultimate truth that entire universe is one organism. One being, one consciousness, one self, manifests itself into this varied universe. Called Advaita, non-dual. Existence. And that is bliss, that is joy, that is the ultimate aim of life. And its all present right here, in us is a capsule form.

You know the tree under which Buddha got enlightened, hundreds and thousands of people throughout the ages have been going there visiting it. And it feels such a peace, such a serenity, calmness, quietness and joy there. Why? Buddha got enlightened. That means what? An atom which was somebody got exploded. And that vibration was absorbed by the tree. The bodhi tree under which he sat and got, sat and meditated. And the influence or effect or impact of it continues through thousands of years. It is just like an atomic explosion, don’t you think so? (Guruji and everybody laughs)

Someone shouts out a question. Guruji asks ‘when?…. hmmm right here’. People crack up and make noise and go nuts and applause.

People go to pilgrimages, you know pilgrim places or holy places, cities. Why? Because those were the places where people sat and meditated. And wherever you sit and meditate, you’re not only influencing your body, your system but you’re also sending those most positive vibrations energy all around you. You can see that, in your own home you try, sit in one corner and meditate in the same place everyday. And you will see that when you get in there, the vibration, the feeling is so much different. Because not only you, you have influenced the walls, the carpet, the place where you are. (guruji laughs) In India it’s a very common custom, that if there is a saint in the town they all want him to come and to just keep at least one foot inside the house. Come in for at least two minutes to our house you know. Let the, our house vibration will be different and change, its good.

This upayasa, simply beautiful, just have to explore more into it from a scientific angle. Like you know that any chronicling illnesses becomes more or less during the full moon or new moon. Isn’t it? This is an established fact, everybody knows. Now the ancient rishis said, ok in that case, what do you do three days before that, on the eleventh day of full moon or new moon you fast on water. Coz it takes 3 days for us to, the toxins in our system to reach all the part, all the organs of the system. And 3 days before if you undergo a cleansing by fasting. And the next day, morning, certain particular herbs and leaves and spinach and all this cleansing diet is given, then the impact of that particular, whatever planetary position, for the illness will be minimised.

There’s another proverb also. Says, the bullet came to the head, but it took off the hat. Events happen, but its effect could be reduced. The spirit has this power to reduce the malefic influence and enhance the benific influence. Suppose you are supposed to get a lottery and if your good karma is very low then you’ll simply hear somebody, oh I’m going to give you hundred thousand dollars and you’re happy that you’re going to get hundred thousand dollars and that’s it. One day you are happy and then it wont manifest. Do you see what I’m saying? Of course you got the news, and that’s it, finished. If you have a bad karma of having an accident, you may just trip from your staircase. And just hurt your nail that’s all. That law of world is fulfilled. Do you see what I’m saying? That is why spiritual practice form such an important aspect of upaya. Remedial measures for life. And its no good to do it when the time comes, it has to be done much before. Oh my bad time is only up to 3 years, let me wait for 3 years then let me do something at that time. Will not work. Its like trying to learn archery in the war field. (laughter)

S’why everyday few minutes, in the morning or in the evenings, sunrise and sunset. Those are the most important time or precious time where your mind can also transcend from the waking, dreaming and sleeping, to the self. Which our fourth state of consciousness. That is the shield, this is like a shield for you. So everyday keep 10 minutes for you, 15 minutes for you, 20 minutes for you, morning and evening. Then you will feel connected with the whole cosmos. What d’you say? (Applause) Jai Gurudev.

GANDHI’S B-DAY WAS ON 2 OCTOBER from Paramhansa Yogananda

“One should forgive under any injury,” says the Mahabharata, “It hath been said that the continuation of the species is due to man’s being forgiving. Forgiveness is holiness; by forgiveness the universe is held together. Forgiveness is the might of the mighty; forgiveness is the sacrifice; forgiveness is quite of mind. Forgiveness and gentleness are the qualities of the Self-possessed. They represent eternal virtue.”

Nonviolence is the natural outgrowth of the law of forgiveness and love. “If loss of life becomes necessary in a righteous battle,” Gandhi proclaims, “one should be prepared, like Jesus, to shed his own, not others’, blood. Eventually there will be less blood spilt in the world.”

Epics shall someday be written on the Indian satyagrahis who withstood hate with love, violence with non-violence, who allowed themselves to be mercilessly slaughtered rather than bear arms. The result on certain historic occasions was that opponents threw down their guns and fled – shamed, shaken to their depths by the sight of men who valued the lives or others above their own.

“I would wait, if need be for ages,” Gandhi says, “rather than seek the freedom of my country through bloody means.” The Bible warns us: “All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”* The Mahatma has written: I call myself a nationalist, but my nationalism is as broad as the universe. It includes in its sweep all the nations of the earth.** My nationalism includes a well-being of the whole world. I do not want my India to rise on the ashes of other nations. I do not want India to exploit a single human being. I want India to be strong in order that she can infect the other nations also with her strength. Not so with a single nation in Europe today; they do not give strength to the others. President Wilson mentioned his beautiful fourteen points, but said: “After all, if this endeavor or ours to arrive at peace fails, we have our armaments to fall back upon.” I want to reverse that position, and I say: “Our armaments have failed already. Let us now be in search of something new; let us try the force of love and God which is truth.” When we have got that, we shall want nothing else.
(*Matthew 26:52. This is one of numerous passages in the Bible that necessarily imply the reincarnation of man. Many of life’s complexities are explicable only through an understanding of the karmic law of justice.)
(** “Let not a man glory in this, that he love his country; Let him rather glory in this, that he love his kind.” – Persian Proverb)

By the Mahatma’s training of thousands of true satyagrahis (those who have taken the eleven rigorous vows mentioned in the first part of this chapter), who in turn spread the message; by patiently educating the Indian masses to understand the spiritual and eventually material benefits of nonviolence; by arming his people with nonviolent weapons – noncooperation with injustice, the willingness to endure indignities, prison, death itself rather than resort to arms; by enlisting world sympathy through countless examples of heroic martyrdom among satyagrahis, Gandhi has dramatically portrayed the practical nature of nonviolence, its solemn power to settle disputes without war.

The Mahatma is indeed a “great soul,” but it was illiterate millions who had the discernment to bestow the title. This gentle prophet is honored in his own land. The lowly peasant has been able to rise to Gandhi’s high challenge. The Mahatma wholeheartedly believes in the inherent nobility of man. The inevitable failures have never disillusioned him. “Even if the opponent plays him false twenty times,” he writes, “the satyagrahi is ready to trust him the twenty-first time, for an implicit trust in human nature is the very essence of the creed.”***
(***”Then came Peter to him and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” – Matthew 18:21-22. I prayed deeply to understand this uncompromising counsel. “Lord,” I protested, “is it possible?” When the Divine Voice finally responded, It brought a humbling flood of light: How many times, O Man, do I forgive each of you daily?”)

“Mahatmaji, you are an exceptional man. You must not expect the world to act as you do.” A critic once made this observation. “It is curious how we delude ourselves, fancying that the body can be improved, but that it is impossible to evoke the hidden powers of the soul,” Gandhi replied. “I am engaged in trying to show that if I have any of those powers, I am as frail a mortal as any of us and that I never had anything extraordinary about me nor have I now. I am a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have enough humility to confess my errors and to retrace my steps. I own that I have an immovable faith in God and His goodness, and an unconsumable passion for truth and love. But is that not what every person has latent in him?” He added: “If we may make new discoveries and inventions in the phenomenal world, must we declare our bankruptcy in the spiritual domain? Is it impossible to multiply the exceptions so as to make them the rule? Must man always be brute first and man after, if at all?

Body Worlds & The Mirror of Time at The O2 09

Body Worlds & The Mirror of Time at The O2 09
I don’t know whether to bow down or worry about Gunther von Hagens. This thing was crazy… it’s like dude spends most of his time skinning people and animals. Why don’t I walk you through it. As we walk in the maze first thing we come across are projections of people morphing from when they were young to old age. Good stuff. Then we come to the change in size of the embryo from 6 to 8 weeks. Man that thing grows from looking like a grain of rice to looking like a baby jellyfish. I wasn’t sickened by it but my gag reflex was kicking in. Keep in mind that between the main things I mention there were displays of bones, organs, slices of different parts of the body (breast totally looks like turkey ham), arterial configurations, nerves, neurons, blood vessels, aortas and such. There were lots of skinned people I’ll tell you that. Some in different situations of life like sports, gymnastics, one dude was standing there with his hand out where the rest of
his body skin rested!

Anyway back to the maze… Skinned pregnant woman with tummy sliced enough to see lil tyke in the praying position hehehe. Other skinned folks showing ligaments so the muscles were stripped… basically skinned folks in different stages. Observation… Skin Man (dude holding his body skin) was the first time I realized the testicles without the bag makes it look like man has 3 penises. And most of the skinned men were packing if you know what I mean. Between all of this were posters full of info e.g. how aging takes it’s toll on the eyes. And examples of how artist saw one thing and painted another. Lots of tips from the health folks… usual first aid stuff and myth busters. Then they had a rabbit and chicken’s nerves… all in red so it more or less looked like red candy floss in the animals shape. Skinned old person.

There was a separate room for adults only where skinned folks were in the ‘riding’ position. The info poster says the penis can bend like a boomerang when inside the partner. Like it’s not already a fun toy ;o) But yeah, after a while it’s like yeah seen seems like the same stuff now. It finishes off with a giraffe. That was awefull I would have said awesome but I was full of awe not just some. On leaving there was some life calculator thing… was gonna try it but looked complicated so check out the merchandise instead. Funny how they got Body World merch and then it turns to Michael Jackson T-shirts. Note: Someone mentioned a cow split in half and you can walk between it to see inside stuff… no signs of a cow. Note again: Seeing all that definitely reminded Viv and I of steaks, bacon, hams, etc… so we were getting hungry in there. It’s called a traveling exhibition? Folks were talking rooms and rooms of skinned people… a huge horse and giraffe!!! Through out I was wondering how they keep them in the same position and move them in and out of places.
It’s nuts!

Chicago The Musical 09

Chicago The Musical 09
I paid £90 quid for 2 ticks and for that I expected something good. It was ok… no back drop changes just a band/orchestra on what looked like bleechers. So they had to make up for it with more jokes which were pretty creative, outfits which weren’t too bad and props that were pretty much standard. I was also disappointed not to see Jerry Springer coz he plays Billy Flynn usually. Unless Jerry suddenly transformed into a big black dude. The guy that sold me the ticks was nice enough to move us in front but I still feel the movie was better. If it wont for the company I’d be bitchin’ about it even more. So yeah not bad but not worth that much.

MY JOURNAL (20th May – 27th May) Small World Festival May 2009

MY JOURNAL (20th May – 27th May) Small World Festival May 2009
(Slideshow in the end says more than the vids)
20/05/09 Wednesday – Thomas gets the bike. Thank god its so much lighter. Pack up. Get bike repaired. Genie and I leave. Train to Liverpool Street. Bike to London Bridge. Train to Headcorn and Genie gets her drink on in the train. Go to a pub that stopped serving food for refurbishing so one lady tells us it’s ok to get some food and eat on the outside benches. Get food and another bully lady makes us eat across the road by the graveyard. Talking about we’re going upscale. Yeah with that attitude you’re up something alright. Genie wont stop talking about the ‘upscale’ bit lol. Bike to the location and first thing we come across is a big fully black cat. So cuddly! Look for Hippie Steve coz we’re pitching tent next to him instead of with the crew. Steve was there stilling outside the sauna tent all naked. Note: So I made sure I didn’t sit where he did… you know just to make sure I didn’t sit on his skidmarks. We’re a few days early so it’s mostly the party tents and crew tents which are up. Set up shop and chill. Steve has brought his bubble machines so sunsets were always amazing as you see silhouettes of kids playing with the bubbles in the sunset. Note: Everyone is so beautiful. You know like in city it’s usually this ones hot or that one’s sexy. Here they did have hints of that but it was more of pure beauty. Inner and outer. The girls especially… they were so so beautiful and pretty and definitely hippie. Well beautiful and pretty… with armpit hair :o| Make rounds and check out the other tents. Some were so pimped out. My fav was Larry’s Lounge coz it it was huge, mattresses inside, COUCHES, piano. And outside more sofas, foosball table, cornetto stand display oh and they were selling funky clothes too. Take a nap. We were working with the Green Godess crew so have a meeting. I was warned about boss lady Shona’s harshness but she was cool. Meet the crew. Amy was definitely the coolest. She was like a dude. Plays drums and banjo/guitar/bouzouki. There was Liz calligraphy and cafeteria, Naomi on the calligraphy, face painting and cafeteria (Liz’s daughter), Rachel cafeteria fine litter picking and drawing, Charlie cafeteria guitar and poi, Kim the main litter guy, Anton litter and attitude, Carl something something and lil Nairan (Liz’s son). Towards the end of the week lot more folks joined our crew. Get instructions. Chill. Fall asleep to the sounds of a Djembe being played very well! Our tents were located perfectly across the circle where the main tents were and then there was the sacred circle that gave us just enough distance so the gigs wont be too loud. Rachel note: I usually look at what I don’t like in a girl first and Rachel was tall and thin plus she speaks really low. And of course the whole issue with the pits. Well it started out like that.

21/05/09 Thursday – Start litter picking and washing. The skies were amazing. Remote control planes flying around. Hot air balloons passing by, etc. Lunch. More pretty, beautiful girls with hairy pits!!! More litter picking. Make stuff with playdough with Rachel and Nairan. Playdough smells so sexy like cake batter… but it tastes like nothing. Dinner at the Inner Circle tent were we’ll be exchanging our meal tickets for excellent food and be entertained by some kinda act. This time it was poetry. Note: Small World festival is pure veg so any meat would be brought in by the person and cooked themselves. Now the Sacred Circle was a circle with stones placed in places… 4 posts around and a stone mushroom. Being a loner I chilled out there and for some reason placed a ring next to the mushroom which was made of sheep wool or whatever it was stuck to the benches. As it got busy the Sacred Circle got more decorations, more folks doing yoga and meditating etc. Mini issue: Picture time… grrrr… why pose man! Whats with all these faces smiling at the camera!? Oh and another issue is I took so many pics but I’m only in one… bit of a bummer but hey… most of the magic that happened could not be captured by the pics, vids and audios I took. Back to Inner Circle tent for dinner, some pub quiz was going on. I was too distracted by the stew and dumplings. Green Godess has it’s opening ceremony. Amy does her thing on the Bouzouki. Chill out. Note: Sleeping in the tent is wicked for observation. I overhead this boy and girl talking about ‘my friends say we have to kiss’. ‘Ok lets go over there’. The age groups made it even more magical coz the kids had their section with boats and hulahoops and all. The teens were near the toilets mostly where the swings were and if not there they had their own Teen tent. Rachel note: Her voice captivates me first. As in when I can hear her it’s so soothing. Amy C-blocks.

22/05/09 Friday – Bike to Headcorn for shopping and some good ol junk. Genie gets on my nerves lol, we usually litter pick together and she’s usually so stoned it’s like I’m taking care of a daughter with issues. It’s all good, she’s takes care of me with the food and all too. Note: Some of these folks have wicked names like Sunshine, Sky, Mushroom… you know… hippie names. Mushroom had her wishing tree tent where folks would stick their wishes on this lit up tree. Pretty funky. Lunch. Usual (Usual from here on means Litter picking with Genie… mostly). By now Genie’s so gone she’s leaving her slippers on the road and walking off. I take went to chill in Larry’s Lounge but ended up having a nap to folks playing piano and exchanging jokes etc. It was so wicked like random people just come into random peoples tents and hit it off. Just like kids. It was about making friends and friendship and all those good things. Oh and jam sessions all over the place. Someone with a drum will spot someone with a guitar and there you have it… jam session!! I met this couple that were into bhajans right opposite my tent so we had a satsang. Later on I’d keep missing our sessions coz when they were free I had to do my shift or eat or something. Oh man… the crowds started coming in. So many more things going on. More tents offering more services. Now Genie and I were chilling in the Sacred Circle next to the Satsang couple tent and these kids come to the edge of the circle, facing the road and one kid on the guitar starts licking out rock anthem choons and Salt and Peppa’s Push It. MAGIC!!! Like everyone had some kinda skill. I’ll come to that later. Now that it’s busy time a barrier is made in the main centre where there are 3 bonfires and folks do all kinda acts from fire poi, fire stick juggling, knife acts, belly dance, etc. Charlie had mad skills in the fire poi juggling thing. Janice joins us. Go to the cinema tent. Yes there was a cinema too… projected by Apple ;o) Wicked documentary called The Power of the Community. About how USA cut Cuba off petroleum. Like if ships docked in Cuba they could not dock in USA till after 6 months. How Cuba started out making lil farms everywhere, got cattle and ploughs etc and now how their scientists are exported for their expertise in chemical free farming etc. Rachel note: Her accent catches my attention this time. I’m like wow she’s pretty easy on the ears.

23/05/09 Saturday – Usual. Sooo many more tents. Paragliders above. Usual. See half a movie at the cinema. Darwins Nightmare or something about how introducing Perch to the Nile changed so much. It was in Swahili so I was asked to stick around and translate till it was just me left lol. It was kinda boring and slow. Now that skills bit I was talking about. Here we have a dad chilling at the Tribal Voices tent giving out his poetry while his teen son is juggling fire poi for the crowds in the main circle. It was like everyone brought something to the table. Rachel note: As we spend more time together I get to do my fav thing… analyze features and Rachel is easy on the eyes too. I’m starting to see her as this hippie angel. LMAO.

24/05/09 Sunday – Usual. Waited 2 hours to be served lunch so Shona had a word with the folks so they’d keep crew food to the side. Oh and Anton had issues with Shona. It was more of a loner than I was. Now he was meant to be taking care of Small World’s tent but we had to do it. My allotted tent was Triban. Do my shift at the Green Godess cafeteria. They serve only Fair Trade! Chill in the sauna while this couple play and sing and the dude gives his strings to the Sauna tent dude. That’s the other thing… even without paying customers all of these people were sustaining each other. Giving what they got. It was basically a hippie village. Note: Sunburn and sauna don’t go together. Bigup: Madhu unc and Neha… they shades with changeable lenses were perfect. Bike to Headcorn in the sunset. Wow… see to get to the festivals you have to pass all these fields with sheep, cows, plants… so many fields and as you pass one of them you get an aroma of ambrosia. The best I can describe this week was Romantic… sooo damn romantic and the Nature is your valentine. Warming you up at noon, cooling you in the evening. Freezing your ass past midnight! Anyway so shopping and stuff. Jokes: Genie has this thing where she moves her head really fast and in random directions right… so I usually ride behind her and I was cracking up just looking at her head movement. Like a chicken or something. Even funnier is when she’s got the light strapped to her head and she’s walking around or talking. I’d usually sleep early and not party to hard coz of work and she’s come to her tent late… and you can see her looking at my tent and these spastic lights going all over my tent. Trust me, its funny! Oh yeah I kept my eye on the Satsang couple coz they were eating and soon as they finished I’m like… it’s time. They’re like we gotta do our washing but we’ll give you one bhajan. Thanx. Over to the cinema. It was so packed with kids coz The Incredibles was on. Back to my tent, fall asleep to this really amazing Rasta MC Beatboxer kinda act. Viv – This dude has the essence of hiphop. Reminder: Look out for Joe Driscoll or Paradox… he’s one of them. Rachel note: Now I’m actually admiring her. Enjoying the time we spend as long as she speaks loud enough or not at all hehehe.

25/05/09 Monday – Rain. Lovely rain but I aint going out till it warms up. At least we got help with the litter this time. Usually it was like tie up the full ones and carry them back to their section. Plastic, cans, bottles, other, compost, raw. And with the wheelbarrow we could only take 3 at a time. Big up Tim for the help too… he was Stewarding but decided to help us during his lunch break. It was the best weather today coz the heat was still there, the rain was here and there and … it was great. Play catch with Nairan. Cara joins us. Oh yeah there was lots of naked kids roaming about and I was like I wish I could do that. Some folks did. I’d taken the Borat mankini along too! Oh well there is another Small World festi in August so yay! Nairan brings balloons. He was soooo cute man. He started tiring me so I took him and Cara over to the bubbles and Steve. Steven even stressed up as Willy Wonka once, walking down the road with his bubbles and kids flocking around him. Do my cafeteria shift… I was getting hungry so grab my food and it went like this. Nairan still wanted to play with the balloons just wanted me to blow them up so that he could let them zip around the tent. So I’d blow up the balloon while he’d take a bite of my pasta, then he’d go chase around the balloon so I’d take my bites… rinse and repeat. Tents have reduced now but people are still partying hard. Genie gave me some mushrooms to try… they didn’t taste as bad as I though and the effect was not all that… colours were just brighter and I was happy and smiley till some rowdy f*** started drama. He even came to the Inner Circle tent and got kinda racial with the black dude doing his spoken word poetry. And what amazing spoken word poetry it was… dude had mad skills I forgot I was eating for a moment. Busiest day, most productive, most fun and best weather and of course the bit of drama to make it complete. Sleep to the sound of the drizzle kissing my tent and some kids were awake late with Steve trying to make the bubbles survive in the drizzle. By now my hips were soar coz of sleeping on the ground and stitching on my jeans didn’t help. Rachel note: BTW from day one we were getting C-blocked and so I’ve not really done my bit. I realize this coz we didn’t chill at all today… maybe for a quick cig or something. Anyway to cut it short thinking of her needy expressions made me wanna be a hero. Must be coz of watching The Incredibles. :oP

26/05/09 Tuesday – Rain! Usual but in the slippery mud. Genie on my nerves again. In this case a solid system for work would not work. We’d agree to the best system for the job as and when it called for it. More usual with Tim and we found so much treasure. Folks left tents, mats, I got a foldable chair, tent-pegs (the most valued), beers, etc. Wow another black and white big fluffy furry cat. Kim’s dog Nova was so sweet, she’d follow him everywhere and get worried when she couldn’t see him. Bike to Headcorn again. Genie loses it. Then loses it again. Has a tantrum. Etc. At one point everything was so beautiful coz folks were shutting up shop and like you see someone playing piano outside with kids playing foosball next to it. The moons crescent looks especially great this evening. It’s basically the last day for many of the crew so we all gather for dinner at the Small World tent. Then for a crew brew in our tent. No more proper lights so Rachel was looking even more angelic. Everyone gathered around with their drink or smoke as Charlie strummed some choons and Nova lying in peace next to him… wish I got that picture but it was too dark and I was using my phone camera. Kim was fiddling about… I think trying to skin up. I was freezing so I was next to the fire. Carl was bringing the jokes. Oh and Genie has her space blanket so she looked like a jacket potato waiting to be cooked lol. Rachel note: Now we’re really adoring each other. Shona C-blocks her backrub. Then again when I say C-block it wasn’t really like that. It was more of an affection thing than an infatuation thing.

27/05/09 Wednesday – Ah last day… this time it’s fine litter picking with the grabber and all. Genie’s still sleeping so I do my hours in the rain. She wakes up and has major ass tantrums, some swearing, a little cry and then goes to sleep in Shona’s tent. Poor thing not well so we hook her up with a hotwater bottle and tea. Some bold cat thought she’d stroll past Nova… it was a tense situation but no one was harmed. Pack one time, fine litter pick, pack tent, fine litter pick, help Genie with her tent, fine litter pick. Ready to go. BTW fine litter pick also means I was getting away everytime Genie had a tantrum. Goodbyes, money and train station. Come across a granny who shares her life with us. From camping naked till today and sleeping with rifles in Kenya during Jomo Kenyatta’s time and living through the depression with a husband she’d thought of killing and how Scientology is opening her eyes to why things happened to her the way they did etc. Genie for once was pretty quiet apart from not approving of Scientology. Way I see it, does not matter what you believe as long as it’d taking you to the check point you want to reach next and you’re not intentionally harming anyone. Even what age you find your path does not matter. Anyway so train to London Bridge, bike to Liverpool Street, train to Forest Gate. Genie goes home, I go to get some CHICKEN! Get home and wow… TANTRUMS ARE BACK IN FULL SWING. Something about stinking up the loo and stuff. Thomas’s friend Dalita’s staying over so I just lock myself up in my room with my chicken and laptop till Genie goes to sleep. Watch Naruto and comedy… aint checking mail/facebook till tomorrow man. No sign of Tasha so I go look for her and boy was she chuffed. She wont stop purring or moving around and I’m like yo I put the laptop on the side now settle down coz I’m tired! Rachel note: Promise to meet up at the Work House festival.

Notes:
- Small World was definitely the best festi to go to for a first timer. It was all so perfect.
- Big up Genie for getting me work coz it also meant a wicked story before I stop My Journal, stuff like this makes me keep it going but I’ve not been true to My Journal for a while now with all the censoring and code names/words for things, and anyway it’s fulfilled what it needed to. Time for another change ok!
- When Mushroom and Genie got stone it was so funny coz they’d both be rambling on like they’re talking to each other but not listening to each other so speaking at the same time about politics and stuff. Mostly the ‘masis’ would get stoned and talk stuff like that. I had to find folks my own age and interests.
- Solar and wind powered phone chargers. One ‘tent’ was really a colourful dome with a telescope for star gazing.
- Teens roaming around with bongs.
- Ambivalence instead of Ambulance on the Ambulance.
- At one point I was like I can do with this life (apart from sleeping on the ground coz I sleep on my tummy and feels like I’m hugging the planet and coz it’s hard). I’ve been offered Glastonbury but I have an idea of how much more crazier and bigger the festival is so lets see. Might mean more than a month away.

Wooed by the World

To all my sisters all across the world, I applaud you,
I know nothing can’t erase the pain we caused you,
I’m sorry sister for all the times we used you,
Hurt you, beat you up, battered and abused you,
Raped you, took your womanhood, violated you, betrayed you,
You women, we supposed to praise you,
Instead we called you hoes and bitches and dissed cha,
I was thinking “Damn, what if that was my mother or my sister?”
You never feel it, till it hits home,
We abandoned you, left you all alone.

It’s only a handful of us that handle our responsibility,
I’m from a broken home, you know this shit is killing me,
How a man can make a woman a mother and a father,
If men got it hard, then women got it harder,
And I represent every man on earth when I say this,
Sister I’m sorry and I pray for your forgiveness.

Sister I’m sorry, For all the wrong I’ve done,
Sister I’m sorry, I’m telling everyone,
Sister I’m sorry, Nothing can change the past,
Sister I’m sorry, Your forgiveness is all I ask.

I broke a promise, cheated on you, lied to you,
I ain’t recognize the goddess thats inside of you,
I know sorry ain’t do it but my acts of faith,
Made me over-stare, hope it’s not to late,
But I don’t understand is how we could hit our girl,
And how we can bring a bastard kid in this world,
I don’t want my child being ashamed of me,
Like “Mommy, where’s daddy?” Wonder what became of me,
Swear to life I don’t know how ya’ll made it all these years,
Can’t even look you in your eyes without mine filling with tears,
You my sister, I respect and love you,
You wo-men, men came from you, And he came from she,
All men ain’t the man that they claim to be,
Sister I’m sorry, swear to god, please forgive me.

Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre)

Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre)
Soon as you walk in the building you get hit by the Wicked green lighting and atmosphere. Stalls selling all the merchandise the bar, etc. The stage was great. A big dragon at the top… mechanical words and cogs on the sides. I didn’t that bit up till the Wizard of Oz came on the scene. Just like other musicals and plays their props, lighting, wardrobe etc… all get kudos. Only, Wicked gets more kudos on the way they used to lighting especially for the rain effect. They get major props for the backdrops too and maps and hanging canvas. Oh and Oz’s mechanical face. It wasn’t too bad… some bits in the story were left unfinished like Tinman and the Lion. The sound was not too good either so you may have to strain to hear it. But all the shortcomings were made up by the twist in Wicked Witch of the West’s side of the story. From the cradle to the grave. She does have an amazing voice. It’s unanimous that the second half was much better. I guess the first was just to show her history and how her wickedness was born. SOOO MUCH GREEN! Imagine a theatre with all these side pillars and ceiling protrusions suddenly lit up by green. And no sign of lights. All I’d suggest is lower the volume or bass and treble and bump up the midrange. Otherwise an all round great production. Note: Bottle of Pepsi is 3 times the normal price… I aint that thirsty!
