AYURVEDA: The Science of Traditional Indian Medicine – Vaidya Bhagwan Dash/Suhasini Ramaswamy

It’s divided into 6 parts – Meaning of Ayurveda, natural body constitution, causes and diagnosis of disease, treatment of disease, measures for good health and glossary. I love glossary! Now you could call these home remedies but that wont be totally correct but everything that is in the book has passed the test of time, age, race, sex and violence… I’m sure you figured the last one was a lame joke. The more I read the move I was pounced by little surprises. One sickness tells you to bump and grid and everything will be alrighty, oh and if you do get your freak on, a glass of milk should ALWAYS be drunk before AND after. While a cure for hiccups requests you to powder peacock leaves and mix with honey. And I thought Harry Potter had all the cool concoctions. Only a few treatments forbid alcohol otherwise they couldn’t care less hell for good sleep mix some with milk and you’re good to go (to bed). Small doses of things like mercury, copper, gold and others are also recommended.

Ayurveda – The Art of Being … thanx Ela Sobol

Summary:

– A lot of it sounds to be in various Indian languages so I could only summarise the English parts.

– 8 Branches of Ayurveda:
1. Kaaya Chikitsa (Internal Medicine),
2. Baala Chikitsa (Treatment of Children / Pediatrics),
3. Graha Chikitsa (Demonology / Psychology),
4. Urdhvaanga Chikitsa (Treatment of disease above the clavicle),
5. Shalya Chikitsa (Surgery),
6. Damstra Chikitsa (Toxicology),
7. Jara Chikitsa (Geriatrics, Rejuvenation),
8. Vrsha Chikitsa (Aphrodisiac therapy).

– Modern medicine would only look too close a leak say in the eye instead of preventing future leakage. Ayurveda removes the causes.

– Tridosha (Bio-humors). The 3 doshas that are looked at to see what needs to be balanced.
1. Vata – Air/Movement
2. Pitta – Fire/Heat/Form
3. Kapha – Water/Fluidity

– Ayurveda starts with the brain.

– They use mud to do a ‘mud scan’ which will show where the issues are. Spots on the patients back showed tendon injury and maybe ligaments.

– Wearing ruby will give you leadership qualities. One dose of some herb is equal to 100 viagra. Hashtag Kama Sutra.

– Ayurveda is a art of living and being. It’s all about being in harmony with the rhythms of nature.

– It was predicted that in 2000 stress will be the biggest health issue.
